CHAPTER 87: GET DARIO

Zayne didn’t stall, storming over to Alessio who glanced up at his arrival.

Amber was already awake, but like a cold chicken, she was curled up on the couch, a large warm piece of blanket around her.

"What did you find?" he asked.

Alessio waved him over, proceeding to talk, but then seeing Brandon and Lincoln who’d followed in, he furrowed his brow.

"Why...are they with you?"

"They’re helping. Ignore them."

"Okay." Alessio nodded. He turned on his laptop, browsing to a page that earned a brow raise from Zayne.

"What is this?" he asked.

"Okay, let me explain." Alessio cleared his throat. "I dug into Valerio and apparently, a few days before this date of a thing, he’d bought a house on an island worth almost ten million."

"What?" Zayne blinked.

Brandon and Lincoln shifted close.

"That’s not the weird part." Alessio shook his head. "This island is one of those that can only be occupied by the buyer. So no one else is living there now except Valerio. Isn’t that strange?"

"I mean," he added. "Why would he suddenly buy off a secluded island for himself. What could he have possibly wanted it for? It wasn’t as if he was hosting some kind of show. Unless..."

"Unless, he already planned to abduct her and this whole date of a thing was just a front," Zayne completed.

Alessio nodded. "One way or the other, he was still going to do it. He wouldn’t have just paid millions for an island just hoping that Evelyn would go on a date with him. Because let’s be real, she could’ve never agreed. Things could have never really gone according to plan."

"This is insane," Brandon muttered. "Why would he...why would he go this far? I mean, I know he was into Evelyn, but...buying off an entire island? Planning to abduct her? For what? What does he hope to gain from this?"

Alessio kept his laptop aside, turning his gaze over to him. "Valerio is this type of guy. If I can’t have her, no one can."

He shrugged. "Since my brother was blind, I’ll explain. Evelyn, very clearly—" He eyed Zayne. "—Was interested in my brother. He was who she felt for. So if my guess is correct. During the date, Valerio tries to court her, but she refuses, turning him down. And what does that do to a guy like Valerio?"

Brandon’s expression fell.

"He loses it," Alessio said. "He felt insulted and that’s when he finally decided to do it. It was his best chance, after all, Evelyn trusted he wouldn’t hurt her. He’d worked with Sage before, and she’d once been in love with him. He’s someone she knows. So why would she ever assume he’d hurt her?"

"Oh fuck!"

Brandon angrily dragged his fingers through his hair.

"This is my fault. This is my freaking fault. If I hadn’t given her number to him. If I hadn’t done that, then she would’ve continued to ignore him and none of this would have happened!"

"No, it still might have. If you hadn’t given her contact with him, they might never have gone on this date, but kidnap her? Yes, Valerio definitely would’ve still done it. Because clearly, Evelyn is in love with Zayne, not him."

Lincoln began pacing the room. "S-so what do we do? How do we get my daughter back?"

"We’re going to have to go to the island," Alessio responded.

Brandon blinked at him. "Aren’t there security measures there?"

"Yes. So?" Alessio snorted. "You think I can’t hack into their security? These glasses aren’t for fancy?" He pointed at his face.

Zayne asked, "Are you sure she’s on that island?"

"What do you mean?"

"If we go all these miles and she isn’t there, wouldn’t it be too late before we find her again?"

Alessio went thoughtfully silent for a few seconds before nodding, "Yes, it would be too late. But I guarantee you she’s on that island. Everything I’ve found pointed to that particular island. There is no other reason why Valerio would’ve purchased that Island. I mean, think about it. He knows that once he abducts Evelyn, you and everyone else will be on alert and start searching for her."

"Where would be the safest place to keep her?" he asked. "Somewhere, a secluded place that not even you would be able to find her? At least not easily."

"An Island." Zauyne nodded, though he said, "But normally everyone would veer towards a secluded place, so someone like Valerio might keep her in an open place, somewhere like his house where he knows we might not think off to search first."

"Well, that’s what he wants you to think."

Alessio shrugged.

"But Valerio is smart. There is no way he doesn’t know you would assume this. My bet still stands on that Island."

"Which one are we standing with?" Lincoln asked. "I’m starting to get confused."

"Lincoln, you go with Brandon to search Valerio’s houses. Alessio and I are heading to the island."

"Alright," Brandon agreed.

"What about me?" Amber asked.

Zayne glanced at her. "You’re not coming. Stay here and rest."

"But I want to come. I have to come. Evelyn is my best—"

"Stay back, Amber." His eyes grew cold. "This is dangerous. Just stay here."

Alessio got up to his feet, saying, "We need one more person though."

"Meaning?"

"You know I can’t go in with you. I need to be in the car to hack into the security."

"What are you suggesting?"

"Get Dario."

"No—"

"Zayne, c’mon. This is your mate we’re speaking of. You can’t do this alone. You ned Dario with you if you want to make it out alive with Evelyn."

Zayne shut his eyes, clearly against the idea.

"Just leave out whatever disagreement you two are having now. Call him," Alessio said. "You know he’ll answer you. And he’ll come even if he’s fighting with you."

A deep sigh dropped from him and he relented, defeated. "Fine," he mumbled, taking out his phone.
