CHAPTER 91: ZAYNE!

"Sir."

The blonde-haired man stepped into the office that was on the very last floor of the building.

Valerio was seated in the leather chair, his body rested with his head thrown back to face the ceiling. He asked, "What is it, Silas?"

"They’ve entered the building and are on the first floor. They’re going to come down to the lower ground one," Silas explained.

"Oh..." Valerio chuckled. "Well, that was fast. I expected them to be a little slower."

"What should I do? Should I send more men upstairs?"

"Do you need to? Do you think they can get past the security on the lower ground one?" he asked.

"Yes," Silas answered. "I told you our security was hacked."

That made Valerio pause.

He slowly settled his feet off the desk to the floor and lifted his head to stare at the man. "What...?"

"I reported it to you earlier—"

"I know you reported it to me, you idiot. Didn’t I ask you to fix it?" Valerio rose to his feet and walked up to him. "I clearly told you to fix it to prevent any further exploration past the first floor, no?"

Silas nodded.

"Yes, you did, sir. But I didn’t have the time to do so. The island was already infiltrated by them, and they’d made it to the front of the door. I had to deploy the men to keep them out."

"And how has that worked out so far?" Valerio dilated his eyes. "Huh? How has it worked out, Silas?"

"Some of them are not responding."

"So, they’re dead?"

"Most likely, sir."

Valeriio breathed out. He brushed his fingers through his hair and chuckled softly. "You’re useless, Silas, you know that?"

"I’m sorry, sir."

"So what do we do now? Because if they take her from me, Silas, I’ll fucking kill you. Give me an idea, right now."

Silas glanced around nervously. He tried to stand as tall as he could, balling his hands by his sides. "You could leave this mansion using the backdoor that leads to the surface before they can make it down here to the lower ground two."

"And then what happens after?"

"Fly off with her using the helicopter in the back."

"Oh..." Valerio blinked, suddenly struck by realization. "Why didn’t I think of that?" he cackled. "I forgot I had one right back over there. I suppose you’re not entirely useless."

"Deploy the rest of our men to keep them busy while I get her out of here, understood?" he asked as he proceeded to the door to leave the office.

"Yes, sir!" Silas nodded.

Valerio made his way over to the room where Evelyn was still tied to the bed. She was awake, staring at the wall. The room had no windows, and it was almost too dark if not for the light that was turned on.

"How do you feel?" he asked.

She didn’t answer him.

"Oh, c’mon now. For how long are you going to be this way with me?" He walked inside and approached the bed where he sat down and reached out his hand to cup her cheek. "Look at me, Evelyn—"

"Don’t touch me!" Evelyn glared at him. "Get your filthy hands off me!"

Valerio’s expression fell. "I hate when you speak to me this way. It gets on my nerves. But I know you won’t stop."

His fingers curled into her hair and he grabbed so hard, Evelyn let out a scream. "Let go of me! That hurts!"

"Why do you have to annoy me this much just for the sake of it?" he questioned. "I wouldn’t hurt you if you would just keep your mouth shut and stop provoking me! If you have nothing sweet to say to me, just shut the fuck up and nod. Do you understand me?"

"Go to hell!" she spat on his face.

He slapped her across the face. "Keep provoking me. You’re only going to get hurt and I don’t think you want that."

Evelyn breathed heavily.

She looked at him, jaw clenching with shoulders rising and falling in heavy breathing. "Fuck you," she said to him. "I’m not afraid of you."

Valerio paused. He looked at her, but he didn’t hurt her. Instead, he smiled. "I don’t have the time for your stubbornness right now. We have a trip to hit."

She frowned as she watched him walk over to the mini table close to the bed. He opened it, took out a rope, but this time around, he proceeded to have her ankles tied.

"What are you doing?" she asked, voice appearing panicky.

"I can’t have you escaping me. Not while they’ve made it into this building," Valerio said, moving over with a knife to cut off the ones around her wrist.

"They?"

She was confused.

"W-what are you talking about? Who are you talking about?"

"If I’m to be honest, I’m quite surprised," Valerio muttered, humming. "I know you’re infatuated with him, but I didn’t think he’d come looking for you. And guess what, he’s almost down here. Isn’t that commendable, Evelyn?"

Evelyn’s pupils dilated. "Zayne? Z-zayne?"

He came?

He actually...came for her?

Her heart skipped a beat.

"Look at you all giddy because you think he’s about to save you." Valerio smirked. "You’re very funny, Evelyn. I did everything to finally have you with me and you think I’d let him take you away from me? That I would let him take you so easily? Well, that’s unfortunate."

Evelyn deeply frowned. "W-what do you mean? What are you doing? Why are you untying me?"

Valerio didn’t answer her. Instead, he proceeded to re-tie her hands, but together this time around.

And she knew she needed to do everything to see that it didn’t work. That she could possibly escape him before he could.

So, she began fighting, struggling to get away from him.

"You bitch! Can you stay still?!" He was growing pissed with every second that she wasted his time.

"Zayne!" Evelyn yelled. He’d said Zayne was almost close to getting to them, so if she screamed, just maybe he might hear. "ZAYNE!"

"ZAYNE! Help me. Help me please—"

Valerio slapped a palm over her mouth, muffling her sounds. "Shut. The. Hell up!"

She didn’t. In fact, she bit down on his hand, so hard, she tasted blood.
