CHAPTER 126: CHAPTER 126 - FRESHMAN COMPETITION

Logan shook his head for a moment, deciding he’d check out more urgent matters first.

’’I need to check on Edric and the others first,’’ he mumbled. ’’In case something happened at the company.’’

Three days was a very long time to suddenly disappear for, after all.

Pressing on Edric’s messages, Logan quietly started reading through them.

’The situation mainly remains the same,’ he read. ’But the official statement for social media has been completed, only waiting for my approval now.’

Logan smiled softly.

Almost two weeks had gone by since the Alvarez family launched a campaign in which they blamed Logan for Derek’s death, and finally, he could turn the public opinion around.

As he read through the statement, Logan’s lips curved up.

’This’ll do the trick,’ he thought.

His team had gathered every angle of the fight, plus clips showing Logan clearly challenging Derek to a duel. They even got statements from several teachers blaming the failure on a gear malfunction.

"Might be time to sue for defamation," Logan muttered, nodding to himself.

He thought back to the fight, especially how his protection badge had failed to activate.

’’There’s no way that was a coincidence,’’ he muttered, sending an approval to Edric.

"If the university figures out what really happened, I might even stick an attempted murder charge on Derek."

Switching away from Edric’s messages, Logan’s eyes filled with curiosity and expectation as he clicked on Allen Foster’s message.

A message opened up, longer than he expected.

"The investigation into the duel should wrap up about a week before the freshman competition," Allen wrote. "Unless someone tries to delay it again, you’ll have the university’s official decision well before then. I’ll make sure you’re informed directly."

Logan’s eyes narrowed, carefully reading through the first message again.

’The freshman competition is around two months away,’ he thought, dissecting the second part next. ’Someone’s been trying to delay my return to the academy?’

He had expected a degree of corruption within the school, but someone with enough power to delay him from getting back?

’Someone with that power definitely has access to my affinity records,’ he thought, frowning. ’Which means the entire world might know about it now.’

The thought scared him, but not as much as it used to.

’’I’ll simply have to overcome it all,’’ he mumbled, clenching his fist. ’And if they decide to come after me... I’ll deal with them just like I did with Derek."

Brushing it off, Logan continued reading Allen’s message.

"I’ve attached a few techniques that match your current stage. Most can grow to Gold level, some to Platinum. Use whatever fits you best."

A small list of files popped up, each attached with names and a handwritten note.

’’If you can’t figure one of them out, call me. I’d be glad to help you once in a while.’’

Logan’s smile widened, staring at seven new techniques.

Two of them were undead ones with platinum potential, and the others were fire techniques he’d never even heard of.

’’Amazing,’’ he mumbled, tapping on one named Red Fire Lotus technique.

The technique looked simple, but it could grow all the way to Platinum Core level.

’The first stage requires someone to create a spinning lotus in the air,’ he read. ’This lotus is packed with mana and detonates when the user wishes so.’

Logan was immediately interested in the technique since he severely lacked large area attacks.

’’I’ll have to look at this later,’’ he said, switching his hologram off.

Logan stayed still for a while, eyes closed, taking in the rare moment of peace.

After a few minutes, Logan stood up again.

’’What do I do from here on?’’ he wondered, thinking about his future.

His thoughts drifted to the freshman competition and its rewards.

’First place gets access to three of the university’s rarest locked dungeons,’ he thought, recalling what Livia had said a while ago. ’Also there’s the worldwide fame and recognition.’

Both prizes were incredibly attractive to Logan, especially the worldwide recognition, something that would boost his business and influence immensely.

’’I have to win that,’’ he mumbled. ’’Even if there’s several more SSS-rank opponents.’’

’’Which means I got a lot more training to do.’’

Logan stood up from the bed and walked over to the mirror.

Staring at himself in the mirror, his eyes moved to the stump where his arm was supposed to be.

He scratched his head, an unsure expression appearing on his face.

’Looks like I’ll have to go back to headquarters for a little,’ he thought, letting out a sigh.

As his arm had disintegrated, so did his disguise skinsuit.

’I can’t regenerate it without the arms looking completely different.’

Logan let out another sigh before sending Edric a message.

’’I’ll just pick the suit up before I continue to my next location...’’ he mumbled, stepping away from the mirror.

He still had two months before he could come back to the university and wanted to continue traveling from location to location. Besides, his fast-food business was set to launch in just three days.

’’But for now, I’ll take a day to recover fully,’’ he said, pulling his window curtains open.

The streets outside were filled with civilians, laughing and talking as if the constant battles had never happened.

Logan leaned on his balcony railing, snow turning into smoke as it touched his skin.

It all felt a little surreal to him.

As he enjoyed the sight, he was pulled out of it by a soft knock on his door.

Before opening the door, Logan confirmed a weak mana source outside using his mana sight.

’’Good morning,’’ he greeted, opening the door.

Outside stood one of the security staff, bowing slightly. ’’Good morning, sir.’’

Logan raised an eyebrow, not sure what this could be about.

’’Someone claiming to know you is waiting at the reception,’’ the security staff said politely.

Frowning slightly, Logan gave a small nod. ’I wasn’t expecting anyone though.’

’’I’ll be there in a few minutes.’’

The security staff bowed deeper before walking away as fast as he could.

As Logan closed the door behind him, he shook his head slightly.

’Weird timing,’ he thought. ’Let’s see who it is.’
