CHAPTER 136: CHAPTER 118 I WANT TO DO A PATERNITY TEST 2
"In a while, you should notify the Minister of the Clothing Department about this proposal, and send it back."
"Got it."
Faye Townsend took a few bites and then put down her chopsticks. "I’m done eating, you two take your time."
"Director Townsend, you can’t just eat a little like this, you’re already on the verge of losing weight, and if you don’t eat properly, I’m afraid you won’t be able to hold onto your title as the most beautiful socialite."
Caleb Rivers’ straightforwardness made Faye chuckle, "I’m already a mother, what use is that title to me? Whoever wants it can have it."
Brielle Golden gave Caleb an odd look, making him feel awkward, so he quickly fell silent.
Brielle put down her chopsticks, "Director Townsend, I’m done eating too."
"That’s not okay, don’t follow my example. I haven’t had much of an appetite these days, you both should eat your fill."
"Sister Golden, we bought so much food, it’ll be a waste not to finish it," Caleb added in persuasion.
Embarrassed, Brielle sat back down, noticing Faye smile and return to her desk chair to continue working, Brielle whispered to Caleb, "Why are you so bold with your words today?"
Caleb smiled, "Director Townsend is quite nice, Sister Golden, you don’t need to be so reserved, it’s uncomfortable."
"That’s not right." For the first time, Brielle realized Caleb was genuinely daring.
Who is Director Townsend? Rumors are everywhere, and almost all of them are negative about her.
She’s even seen Director Townsend lose her temper in the meeting room; to be honest, she’s quite afraid of this young woman.
She’s very domineering in her work, what she says goes, but she’s indeed very capable.
Among the women she knows, she’s definitely top-notch in both looks and ability.
But now, because of some rumors, she clings to her job cautiously every day, not daring to be disrespectful.
After Faye, Caleb, and Brielle finished eating, they tidied up and left.
All afternoon, Faye was buried in contracts and financial reports. She barely took a moment to drink a cup of tea; while sipping it, she glanced at her phone and discovered there were eleven missed calls, all from Hunter Warren.
She checked the phone’s settings, sure enough, it was on silent.
Fortunately, it was silent; otherwise, the phone’s constant ringing would have driven her mad.
She put the phone down, holding her teacup, and went to the floor-to-ceiling window to take a moment to rest her eyes, looking out at the scenery.
Anchester was becoming more beautiful by the day, bustling yet seemingly losing a bit of peace.
Ever since taking over the company, she’s felt like she’s been at war daily. She wanted to take Darnley outdoors for a little getaway, but she never found the time.
She was really curious about how, back then, while staying by Hunter Warren’s side, he managed to handle his work so effectively every day.
She couldn’t do it. Even if she compressed her time tightly, it felt like there was always endless work.
It seemed like she really was a bit too weak and needed to continue improving her work efficiency.
Faye returned to her seat, put down her teacup, stretched a little, and then resumed her work.
On the anniversary of her grandmother’s death, Faye got up early.
As she went downstairs, she found Uncle Rivers already busy in the kitchen with Mrs. Li.
Seeing her ready to go down, Uncle Rivers asked, "Miss, why are you up so early?
I’m here in the kitchen; don’t worry, go back to sleep for a while."
"It’s fine, I’m not used to going back to sleep." She rolled up her sleeves and walked into the kitchen.
"Is there anything else that needs doing?"
"No need, Miss, all the dishes and snacks are being prepared according to your instructions.
Take a look and let me know if anything is missing, so I can continue preparing."
Faye nodded, "Okay, nothing else. Just finish preparing these."
Faye put on an apron and stepped forward to help. Despite Uncle Rivers not letting her get involved, there were some things she still wanted to prepare personally.
This was the first time in six years she was preparing for her grandmother’s anniversary.
For nothing else but because back then, her grandmother wholeheartedly supported her; she couldn’t go slack.
Although her cooking skills weren’t great, with Mrs. Li’s assistance, they had all the snacks ready by nine o’clock.
When Uncle Rivers returned from taking Darnley to kindergarten, she was loading things into the car, ready to depart.
Faye didn’t let the chauffeur drive; she drove herself to the cemetery.
She set off without calling Hunter Warren and waited at the cemetery entrance after she arrived.
At ten thirty, Hunter Warren drove up alone.
As soon as he got out of the car, he walked towards Faye. "Why did you leave by yourself?"
"Can’t I leave first?"
"We are supposed to do grandma’s anniversary together; how could you go alone?"
Faye shrugged without a care. She opened the trunk of the car. "These are what I prepared for grandma, I can’t carry them by myself, come and help."
Hunter stepped up to help her carry them. As they walked into the cemetery, he looked at her and asked, "These past few days, why haven’t you been answering my calls?"
"I’ve been busy."
"Too busy to even answer a call?"
"Yeah, no time." Faye didn’t look at him; they proceeded to her grandmother’s tombstone.
The offerings prepared by Hunter’s people were also brought up.
Seeing that what she prepared was quite similar to his, he was a bit surprised. "You still remember what grandma liked to eat."
"After Sebastian Sheldon left, I dined with grandma more often than I met you.
Remembering what grandma liked and disliked isn’t difficult."
Faye looked at the kindly and loving eyes and smile of her grandmother on the tombstone, pursed her lips, "Grandma, long time no see, Faye is here to see you."
She squatted down, helping tidy the grass around the tombstone, "I haven’t visited you in years, are you angry?
Sorry, I went abroad to study and couldn’t come back all these years.
Now I’m back living in Anchester, I’ll try to visit you more often."
Hunter crouched next to her, looking at the tombstone, "Aren’t you going to tell grandma you’re adamant about divorcing me?"
Faye turned her head to look at him, her eyes tinged with displeasure, "It’s grandma’s day, why are you talking nonsense?"
"I have to remind you, in front of grandma no less. We swore in front of her to take care of each other for life."
Faye tilted her head with a smile, "Your promises weren’t sincere back then."
"Even insincere promises are promises I’ve never forgotten."
Faye gritted her teeth, "Should I tell grandma it was your idea to divorce first?"
Hunter smiled, "Yes, I brought it up first. Who doesn’t have a little temper?
When I brought it up, you immediately signed. What, couldn’t wait to divorce me?
Too bad, I’m a stickler for my words and commitments. Whatever promise I make, I’ll fulfill.
So today, I reaffirm my promise in front of grandma: I, Hunter Warren, will never divorce grandma’s granddaughter-in-law, Faye Townsend, not even in death."
Faye snorted, "You’re really something, turning things around like that. But today, I won’t argue about these things. Let’s focus on what’s important."
Once the ceremony was over, Hunter and Faye bowed three times in front of grandma’s grave before leaving.
On their way down from the cemetery, Faye’s phone started ringing incessantly.
Seeing the caller ID, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly stepped away from Hunter, picking up the phone.
"Hello, Doctor Barrett, why are you calling so late?"
"Miss Townsend, are you available to take this call now?"
"Yes, I am."
"Miya was just taken to the hospital. I heard you are in Eldoria, and there’s something Mr. Guo needs to handle. But since I couldn’t reach him, I had to call you."
"What’s wrong with Miya?" Faye’s heart clenched instantly.
"Her condition isn’t good, it seems she needs to have the third operation as soon as possible."
Faye trembled, reaching out to support herself against the marble roadside tree trunk.
"Having the surgery six months early won’t harm Miya’s body?"
She was scared, scared of losing Miya, scared to see the look in Miya’s eyes when she was frightened but had to comfort her mother during surgery.
Miya was a good child, but she wasn’t a good mother.
"Normally, there would be some impact, but right now there’s no better option.
But Miya is a strong child, I believe she’ll be alright."
Faye looked down, taking a deep breath. By this time, Hunter had already come over to her side.
Seeing her suddenly look so weak as if about to collapse, Hunter was very worried and grabbed her wrist, "What’s wrong with you?"
Hearing his voice behind her startled Faye quite a bit.
She turned back, leaning against the tree, staring at Hunter for a good three seconds before shaking her head, "Nothing, just a little anemic."
Anemic? It didn’t look like anemia.
He glanced sideways at her phone, and she remembered there was still someone on the other end. She quickly moved away, avoiding him.
"Doctor Barrett, if this is the only way to save Miya,
I hope you can quickly arrange the surgery. I’ll be back to Switzerland in a day or two."
"Alright, I’ll notify you once the surgery schedule is set."
"Okay, thank you for taking care of Miya."
"Miya is a lovely little angel, there’s no trouble at all."
After hanging up, Faye mustered the courage to take a deep breath and walked back.
Hunter looked at her pale face, "Are you really alright?"
"Yeah, I’m fine. I have some things to handle here, so I’ll leave first. Please feel free, Mr. Warren."
After speaking, Faye turned to head down the mountain while Hunter grabbed her wrist.
"Why are you so stubborn? Look at your face, how do you look like you’re okay?
Faye, what happened? Can’t you see people are worried sick?"
She looked at him, what right did he have to know about any of this?
When she needed him before, he gave up on her. Now, she could need anyone, but not him.
She calmly pulled her hand back, "I’m really fine, it’s just that a contract with Switzerland was broken up.
