Billionaire's Unforgettable Ex-Wife
Chapter 560 - 268 The Hatred in Evie Larkin’s Eyes
CHAPTER 560: CHAPTER 268 THE HATRED IN EVIE LARKIN’S EYES
Jane Quinlan blinked at him, unable to speak for quite a while.
"Am I hell?"
"Director Moore, how can you eavesdrop on other people’s conversations?"
"Eavesdrop? I was just about to go to the restroom.
Are you sure it’s not because you’re speaking too loudly?"
Jane scratched her brow: "So what if I’m loud when I talk.
It’s my freedom to say what I want."
Nolan Moore gave her a glancing look and turned to head towards the restroom.
Jane stuck out her tongue, that was close, too close.
Otherwise, it would have been awful...
She sent a text to Benjamin Quinlan, asking him to send her a message about where they were going to meet after deciding on a location.
In the afternoon, Jane was rather busy.
Despite the morning being quite idle, she didn’t know if Nolan Moore was deliberately making it hard for her.
Anyway, her workload had suddenly increased in the afternoon.
In the afternoon, she sent a message to Kay Forrest, telling him that she would be accompanying the couple on a blind date in the evening.
Because Kay had to work overtime, tonight he had left her to be the third wheel alone.
As soon as the workday ended, and seeing that Nolan Moore hadn’t come out, Jane simply knocked and entered his office.
"Director Moore, do you have any additional instructions for me?"
"What is it?"
Jane pouted, pretending not to understand although she clearly knew.
"Tonight, I have to introduce a partner to my cousin, and there’s only half an hour left until the appointed time."
Nolan Moore raised his eyebrows: "Knowing you might have to work overtime, why did you set the time so early?"
"That’s why I’m asking if there’s anything you need, if there is, I can skip it."
"There is, take this document and sort it out."
Nolan Moore said as he tossed a document onto his desk.
Jane clenched her teeth and marched up to pick up the document, oh Nolan Moore.
"Fine, there’s overtime pay for working late anyway, so let’s just work overtime.
My cousin has met my best friend before, it would actually be awkward if I went.
Thank you, Director Moore, for giving me the chance to avoid being the third wheel."
After saying that, she turned and left the office.
Nolan Moore smirked, play tough, will you.
Once outside the office, Jane called Benjamin Quinlan.
"Brother, I can’t make it, Director Moore has me working overtime.
You know Evie, just go and meet with her.
If I were there, it would just make you both feel more constrained."
Benjamin Quinlan wasn’t disappointed when he heard her say this.
He was a man who had been independent from a young age, and indeed, going to a blind date with his sister tagging along was somewhat inapt.
"Alright, got it. You just focus on your work.
It’s not a big deal; I can go by myself."
After hanging up the phone, Jane started working on the document.
Since she wasn’t leaving, Nolan Moore, who had asked her to work overtime, couldn’t leave either.
As they both stuck around, around 7 p.m., the sound of high heels clacking echoed down the hallway.
Jane turned her head and saw Evie Larkin walking over with several lunch boxes in hand.
"Miss Quinlan, you’re here too."
Jane stood up and politely smiled: "Miss Larkin, you’ve arrived."
"Yeah, I just got off the phone with Nolan, he said he’s still working overtime.
I figured he hasn’t had dinner yet, so I came to bring him something to eat.
But..." Evie Larkin said somewhat apologetically, "he didn’t tell me you were here too, otherwise I would have brought something for you as well."
"No need, Miss Larkin, I’m skipping dinner tonight, I need to lose weight."
"But you’re already so thin and you’re still trying to lose weight?"
Jane chuckled: "I’m not that thin, I’ve just hidden the fat away."
Evie Larkin looked her over and laughed: "Not at all."
"Miss Larkin, please go ahead, I should get back to work."
"Okay, we’ll talk another time."
"Sure," Jane nodded and sat back down.
When Evie Larkin entered Nolan Moore’s office, he seemed a bit surprised.
"Evie, what brings you here?"
"Didn’t you say you were working late?" she shook the lunch boxes she was carrying, "I’ve brought you some food."
Nolan Moore looked at her with a smile and stood up, walking over to the coffee table: "You know what, I’m actually kind of hungry."
"I really admire you people, getting so caught up in work and neglecting everything else.
Your health is your true capital; you’ve all got your accounting wrong."
As she laid out the food, Nolan Moore picked up his chopsticks and took a couple of bites before remembering that Jane Quinlan outside hadn’t had dinner either.
He stood up, walked to the door, and pulled it open: "Haven’t finished with the documents yet?"
"Almost done."
"Then you should get going, the rest can be handled tomorrow."
Jane raised her eyebrows at him: "Thanks for your concern, Director Moore, but today’s work should be finished today.
I’d rather get it done before I leave."
Nolan Moore cast her a sidelong glance, clearly not appreciating the good in people.
He turned around and slammed the door shut as he returned to his office.
Jane Quinlan thought to herself, what’s this, a slap followed by a date as a reward? Just drop it, okay?
Evie Larkin saw Nolan Moore come back huffing and puffing, a smile hooked on her lips.
"What’s wrong?"
"Nothing."
"Be a little nicer to Miss Quin, she is, after all, Kay’s girlfriend now.
I know you don’t like Kay.
But there are some things you really shouldn’t take out on Miss Quin.
She herself is quite innocent."
Nolan Moore didn’t say anything, just nodded.
"Okay, I see you’ll still be busy after lunch, so I won’t hold you up here, I’m gonna head off work first."
As she spoke, she stood up to leave.
Nolan Moore also stood up: "Let’s go, I’ll leave with you."
"Don’t you need to finish up your work?"
"Actually, I’ve finished up already, I was just about to leave anyway."
"Then after you’ve eaten, we’ll go together."
Evie Larkin sat down again, and Nolan smiled: "Let’s go out to eat together."
If he didn’t leave, that Jane Quinlan outside would probably stay put in a huff as well.
I knew I shouldn’t have teased her tonight.
The two of them left the office together, and Jane Quinlan got up and gave Evie Larkin a smile: "Miss Larkin, goodbye."
Evie Larkin looked amiable as she turned to Jane Quin: "Miss Quin, we’re leaving first. You, too, do your best. Finish up and go home to rest soon."
"It’s okay, I’m not in a hurry, since Kay is also working overtime.
We can do overtime together, which is pretty good."
"Kay is also working overtime?"
"Yeah."
Nolan Moore patted her shoulder: "Let’s go, Evie."
"Oh, okay."
After the two left, Jane Quinlan sat down and quickly processed the documents.
Twenty minutes later, she finished and packed up her bag to leave.
When she left, there was a team still working overtime in the office.
They are planning an advertisement for color cosmetics products; they will probably be busy these days.
After coming down from the building, Jane Quinlan remembered to call Kay Forrest.
Kay Forrest was also busy.
"Am I disturbing you?"
"Not at all, come and wait for me in my office."
"I’d rather not," Jane Quinlan dared not go up, okay.
"The secretary is out running errands for me, she won’t be coming back to work overtime tonight, so come up, it’s alright."
Upon hearing this, Jane Quinlan immediately returned to the company.
After entering his office, Kay Forrest beckoned her over, and when Jane Quinlan approached, he pulled her into his embrace.
Jane Quinlan wrapped her arms around his neck, with a little coquettish intent: "Will my presence not disturb you?"
"No, before you came, I was working overtime.
Now that you’re here, I don’t consider it overtime, because my mood is better."
He ruffled her hair, smiling indulgently.
Jane Quinlan chuckled and planted a kiss on his forehead: "Then I’ll accompany you by your side, you..."
"No need to be on the side, it’s best if you stay right in my arms."
Jane Quinlan’s face flushed with shyness: "Are you sure you can be efficient like this?"
Kay Forrest’s hands grasped the softness of her certain part: "Yes, because it’s motivating.
Hurry up and finish, and then we can go home and exercise a little."
Jane Quinlan rolled her eyes; this guy probably never considered her feelings.
"How’s your cousin’s blind date with Xiao Hua going, is it going smoothly?"
"When I went downstairs just now, I made a call to them.
They went to the movies together after dinner.
Pfft, those two, not at all strangers to each other."
"Not being strangers means there’s a good chance."
As he spoke, he blew air on her ear and kissed it.
Jane Quinlan shivered: "Hey."
"Hey what, can’t I tease you a bit?
Behave yourself, if you don’t, I’ll have to take care of you right here and now."
"You’re shameless," Jane Quinlan tapped his head with her hand.
Kay Forrest smirked: "Seems I have to fulfill this shameless deed or else I’m getting a bad rap for no reason."
He embraced her and stood up, directly placing her on the desk.
Jane Quinlan pushed against his shoulders: "Alright, alright, I admit my mistake, get back to work."
"Too late."
"Oh my."
...
At the entrance, Evie Larkin’s slender figure stood there, hands tightly gripping the lunch box in her hand, her eyes brimming with moisture and resentment.
