Billionaire's Unforgettable Ex-Wife
Chapter 568 - 276 She Is Very Likely to Die Tonight
CHAPTER 568: CHAPTER 276 SHE IS VERY LIKELY TO DIE TONIGHT
"Ah?" Jane Quinlan was stunned for a moment.
"What are you ’ah’-ing for? We are in the emergency room at People’s Hospital right now, tell him to hurry over."
After stuttering for a long while, Jane said, "What happened to Miss Larkin?"
"Suicide."
Jane raised her hand to cover her mouth, her rosy little face suddenly turned deathly pale.
"Ah? How could that be."
"Are you happy now, Jane? It’s all because of you."
Jane bit her lip, "Nolan Moore, don’t spout nonsense and pin false charges on me.
How can this be because of me?
Didn’t you expose today’s incident yourself?
Even if someone were to investigate, they couldn’t pin it on me."
"If it wasn’t for your involvement in their relationship..."
"Before me, Kay Forrest had countless girlfriends.
Why am I the one to carry the blame when no one else had issues?
Also, I am not the third party destroying their relationship.
When I met Kay, they were already broken up.
My relationship with Kay is guilt-free, both publicly and privately.
Nolan, I know you are close to Miss Larkin, but I hope you won’t falsely accuse me at will.
I cannot shoulder such a heavy blame.
I’m going to tell Kay right now."
She hung up the phone directly; actually, she wanted to ask about Evie Larkin’s condition, whether it was serious or not.
But because of Nolan’s attitude, she couldn’t get the words out.
Nolan sighed, knowing that what he said to Jane just now was somewhat unfair.
But for some reason, hearing Jane’s voice, he unleashed his nameless rage onto her.
He exhaled in frustration and patted his head, wondering what was wrong with him.
Jane walked to the bathroom door and knocked, "Kay, are you done showering?"
"In a hurry? Don’t worry, I’ll be right out. I’ll be at your service as soon as I’m clean."
Jane bit her lip, "Evie Larkin has attempted suicide; she’s currently being resuscitated in the hospital."
The sound of the bathroom faucet suddenly stopped, Kay opened the door and looked at her, "Is it serious?"
Jane’s face looked rather ugly as she shook her head, "I don’t know, Nolan was choking me with words. In my anger, I forgot to ask. Hurry and get dressed to go see."
Kay returned to the bathroom, turned the faucet back on, and continued to shower, "I’m not going."
"You can’t just not go, it’s a matter of life and death."
"Who is Evie doing this for?
Isn’t it just to rebel against the rumors from this afternoon?
If I go, I would be playing right into Evie Larkin’s intentions.
So I won’t go. It’s her own choice to attempt suicide; nobody forced her to die."
"But in other people’s eyes, it’s you who forced her."
Kay extended his hand to pull her under the shower head.
Jane’s loungewear was soaked through.
She exclaimed, "Ah, I’m all wet."
"That’s the idea, to get you wet. Come on, let’s take a mandarin duck bath."
Jane slapped his chest with a serious expression on her face.
"Stop it, I’m really anxious right now."
Kay rolled his eyes, "See, you just can’t keep things to yourself."
Jane pulled him out and helped him dry off with a towel.
Kay stood there helplessly, watching her, "What are you thinking?"
"I’m thinking, you still should go to the hospital.
Miss Larkin’s suicide is such a big deal, it’s bound to alarm Mr. Forrest.
I know Mr. Forrest and Miss Larkin are very close.
I don’t want Mr. Forrest to scold you for being heartless."
"It wasn’t me who made her die."
"But other people’s idle talk can hurt you.
I don’t want you to bear this blame."
Jane’s purpose was simple; she wanted him to be free from others’ accusations and gossip.
Kay sighed with a hint of resignation, "Okay, okay, you’ve really got me scared now.
I’ll go and take a look, okay?"
Having said that, he grabbed another towel and draped it over her, "Dry off and change clothes to go."
Jane smiled, "Okay, I’ll wait for your call at home."
After kissing her forehead, Kay stepped out of the bathroom to change clothes.
Having changed, he left and Jane, stepping out of the bathroom, changed into a dry set of loungewear and sat on the bed feeling somewhat suffocated.
Evie Larkin’s suicide... she really went through with it against herself.
But then again, it seems to be the best way to avoid those idle talks at the company.
Thinking about it, she’s a pitiable person.
Kay showed up at the company nonchalantly before his old man arrived.
He leaned against the wall opposite Nolan, "You didn’t tell the old man about this?"
"Evie wouldn’t have wanted Kay to find out.
What she fears most is Kay worrying about her."
"Pfft," Kay Forrest scoffed disdainfully.
Nolan Moore shouted, "Kay Forrest, what is that expression? Do you have any humanity left at all?"
"I do have humanity, but I reserve it for those who are humane."
In a burst of impulsiveness, Nolan Moore stepped forward and grabbed Kay Forrest’s collar: "Have you lost your mind?
This is Evie, Evie Larkin."
"Of course I know."
"Shouldn’t you be asking how serious her condition is?
What’s with that attitude of yours, who are you trying to disgust?
Kay Forrest, even if you don’t love her now,
you two were once in love, how could you treat her like this?"
"At such a young age, we didn’t really understand what love is.
It was just mutual affection, not hating each other, that’s all.
To call it love would be an exaggeration."
Kay Forrest calmly pushed his hand away: "My collar isn’t something you should be grabbing."
Nolan Moore clenched his fist, stood a step away in front of Kay, and looked at him with a cold indifference.
"Kay Forrest, your heart is really too cruel.
I feel for Evie.
All these years, she’s loved you with all her heart.
She’s been waiting for you.
She knows what you’ve been up to abroad over these years.
Knowing you’ve been changing girlfriends one after another, gallivanting daily through fields of romance.
But she never cared about any of that.
She thought you’d have enough fun and eventually come back one day.
But look at you, not only did you come back, but you also brought another girlfriend with you.
How can she not feel heartbroken and hopeless?"
"There are plenty of heartbroken and hopeless people out there, should they all commit suicide?"
Kay Forrest’s nonchalant eyes suddenly turned a shade colder: "Her inner frailty means everyone else has to play along with her drama?
If she loves me, should I return to her side even if I don’t love her?
What’s wrong with me bringing back a girlfriend? Am I not entitled to fall in love with someone?
I haven’t married her, nor pledged my life to her, so now I’m stuck with her just because she claims so?"
"Evie was taken to the People’s Hospital unconscious.
She might very well die tonight, doesn’t that bother you?"
Nolan Moore roared, "As a friend, I think she’s pitiable.
Aren’t you afraid you’ll regret treating her like this in the future?
Why did you have to spread such rumors, did you really want to drive her to death?"
"Here we go again," Kay Forrest was truly annoyed.
"The news was spread by you, you can only blame yourself, it was you who forced my hand."
Nolan Moore turned and sat down on the chair, "Not me."
Kay Forrest smirked, "Finally admitting it."
"You know it wasn’t me?"
"Although I dislike you, I know you wouldn’t stoop to doing something so trivial."
He wasn’t praising Nolan Moore, just stating the facts.
"Apart from you, who else knows about you and Evie’s past together?"
"Right," Kay Forrest pointed at Evie Larkin in the hospital room.
"You think it was Evie? It wasn’t her, I talked to her this afternoon."
Kay Forrest turned and smiled, "You believed her just because she said it wasn’t you?"
"Evie is not a liar," Nolan Moore looked at him, his gaze steadfast.
He scoffed, "The naive one isn’t Evie Larkin, it’s you.
Do you really think she’s still that kind and innocent little girl from ten years ago?
Nolan, don’t be foolish, people change.
I thought you were smart, but it turns out you’re just as ignorant, utterly absurd."
Nolan Moore looked up at him, "I’ve had my doubts about Evie too.
But Evie really has no motive to do such a thing.
Why would she do something that harms others without benefiting herself?"
"What do you think?"
"No matter what you think of her, I choose to trust her.
There must be someone else behind this."
Kay Forrest shook his head with a smile, "Let’s make a bet. Go investigate.
If it turns out Evie Larkin didn’t do this, I won’t trouble you ever again.
But if it was Evie Larkin, from then on you can’t give Jane Quinlan a hard time."
Nolan Moore frowned and looked at him.
It was rare for Kay Forrest to be like this, always protecting Jane Quinlan.
His feelings for Jane, it’s true love.
