Bizarre Realm
Chapter 37 - 32: Logistics Department
CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 32: LOGISTICS DEPARTMENT
Sean spent the entire day in the library today.
He found that Wizards don’t have rigid criteria for the need for knowledge. While arcane knowledge is more precious, regular knowledge can also speed up the digestion of Extraordinary Essence.
Because knowledge helps Wizards understand the world.
"If an ordinary person with a scholar’s background progresses along the Wizard Path, they’ll improve their abilities faster than others."
The cultural level of a Transcendent also affects the efficiency of digesting the Extraordinary Essence on the Wizard Path.
Daisy didn’t accompany him today.
Daisy doesn’t like reading!
She prefers spending time with stray animals in Dorne City. Perhaps this is also a way to digest the power of the Path of Nature.
When Sean returned to his residence, it was already dusk.
He saw William at the door, standing beside him was a tall woman wearing a hood.
"This is Gemma,"
William softly introduced, "She is a Mystic Scholar."
Hmm?
Mystic Scholar?
Sean seemed to hear the whispers of death.
Among the many dangerous occupations, Mystic Scholars rank much higher than Investigators.
Gemma was a very tall woman, half a head taller than Sean, probably over 1.9 meters tall. Her frame was large, and from behind, she looked somewhat like a man.
When Sean saw her face, he was immediately drawn to her prominent hooked nose, which was somewhat exaggerated, like an old witch from a fairy tale. She wore many strange ornaments, resembling a wandering gypsy, with brown eyes, dusky skin, exuding a gloomy aura.
"Hello." Gemma proactively extended her hand.
Sean shook her hand, which was very rough, with slightly gray, sharp nails.
She gazed at the confusion Sean was wearing, and in a slightly hoarse voice said, "Thank you very much for your help in this Extraordinary event."
"The Night Watch Headquarters has prepared some rewards for you."
Sean couldn’t help but look at William beside him, who nodded gently.
Gemma continued, "Since you are not affiliated with Dorne City’s Investigators, we can’t give you too good a reward."
"You can choose a sum of money,"
"Or some materials with Extraordinary Traits."
According to the internal standards of the Night Watch, Sean’s achievements this time could warrant a Low Sequence Extraordinary Wondrous Object, but since he is considered an ’outsider,’ they won’t give such objects to outsiders, so the reward could only be a sum of money or some Extraordinary Materials from strange creatures.
Curios from the Bizarre Realm are very rare, and Holy Relics are equivalent to strategic weapons.
Sean thought for a moment and said, "How much money?"
Gemma glanced at him, thought for a moment, and said, "According to past practice, involving High Tier Relics in an Extraordinary event might earn you a reward of 8000 to 12000 dinars."
The activity funds of the Night Watch Headquarters are secretly allocated by the treasury of the Dorne Kingdom.
It’s quite a large sum of money.
Hank, as a High Tier Investigator, only received 2100 dinars this time, though his was counted as an additional spiritual subsidy.
"That’s about three or four months’ salary for me."
"A regular Investigator’s salary probably isn’t even 3000 dinars."
"The Butcher said that as long as I become Lady Hecate’s Wizard Apprentice, there would be additional subsidies," Sean thought to himself.
This money probably also includes the part for being a Wizard Apprentice.
Sean immediately said, "I choose the Extraordinary Materials."
Although the real world is much safer than the Bizarre Realm, protected by human miracles, there are still some strange creatures that invade reality.
And dealing with them is the responsibility of Night Watchers and Investigators.
The Clockwork Nirvana Twelve Realms will keep those powerful unnamed out, but like a fishing net, the relatively weaker strange creatures might have the opportunity to enter the real world. The monster in the market area was a bit strong, so it needed a sacrificial vessel.
Gemma nodded slightly, "Okay."
"I will send someone to pick you up to the logistics department tomorrow."
Handling Extraordinary events is a very cumbersome task in the real world. It’s not just that the Investigators find something strange, round up people, and have the Night Watchers kill it to end things.
They need to erase traces of the strange existence, handle their corpses, assess the pollution of the surrounding area by the strange creatures, conduct psychological surveys on nearby residents, etc. Once the Night Watchers finish dealing with a strange event, the huge logistics department of Dorne City begins its operation.
They even have specially trained Transcendents to erase the memories of ordinary people who have experienced strange events.
It seems to be some Transcendents from the Mind Path.
This type of Transcendent can delete ordinary people’s short-term memories or suggestively erase significant parts, letting them forget everything, returning to a normal life.
This Path’s Transcendents are even flimsier than Wizards.
The night passed uneventfully.
The next day, Sean met Gemma again. Being a Mystic Scholar is a high-risk profession; surviving is not easy.
Gemma gave off a bit of a Wizard vibe, on the same path as Sean, although the advancement methods might be different, as her appearance reminded Sean of a legendary creature — an old witch.
Not all Wizards advance from Primitive Magic Power; it requires great talent, as well as strong inspiration.
Some Wizards, lacking talent, advance by relying on some Magic Power-bearing Extraordinary Relics, like an old hag, night witch, mirror demon, etc. Their Extraordinary Relics contain Magic Power, and once digested, they possess the basic Magic Power to cast Spells.
But as the cost of stealing Extraordinary Essence, they may suffer some pollution.
So Gemma appears like an old witch.
The Night Watch’s logistics department is south of the Church District; this area is not open for casual access, with Transcendents standing guard outside.
In front of a modern building,
"Hello,"
"I’m Ivan. I’m the psychiatrist here," a young, delicate man came over.
Sean had seen him before.
He was responsible for erasing witnesses’ memories in the Old Town District. Transcendents on the Mind Path can delete or alter memories and implant mental suggestions.
Sean extended his hand, "Hello. I’m Sean."
Ivan nodded with a smile, "I know. Many people inside the Night Watch know about you."
"A promising Investigator,"
"Many Night Watchers want to collaborate with you. Do you have plans to work in Dorne City in the future?"
Sean’s expression showed some surprise.
He thought for a moment and said, "I’m not sure, I need to follow the arrangements from above."
The Butcher and Lady Hecate probably have plans.
Ivan looked a bit regretful, "I see."
"If you have any psychological issues in the future, feel free to come to me, including memories you’d like to forget."
Ivan winked, "I’m a professional in this area."
Investigators need to see a psychiatrist regularly, with annual psychological evaluations, yet even so, many still commit suicide in the end.
This office building is very large.
There were many staff along the way, with the main departments being logistics, psychological treatment, medical, etc. You could see many figures wearing white coats here.
"Please follow me," a short-haired woman dressed as a secretary appeared and said.
She turned back to look at Sean and said, "The items you need have already been delivered."
