CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 15: ’MONSTER’ VERSUS MONSTER! (PART 3)
"He lost control."
"He accidentally killed the person he most wanted to protect."
Knowledge gradually grew excited, whispering and muttering. It had already resonated with emotions and glimpsed into the inner world of this terrifying monster.
—Joe Claswell.
Knowledge knew his name, but now he was just an Evil Spirit trapped in the Spirit Realm, twisting day by day in boundless regret, until all Mind and Spirituality were obliterated, fully becoming a member of the eldritch creatures.
Shawn watched all of this expressionlessly.
Benjamin was slightly affected, at most furrowing his brow; the captain’s will was extremely resilient.
This place wasn’t suitable for Hank; the influence would be more severe on him.
In the rift in the Spirit Realm opened by the ritual, a grotesque, hollow head was held in hand and floated with the outstretched pale hand, a chilling wind whipped through the room, and a hunched figure slowly crawled out of the Spirit Realm’s mist.
Shawn saw an ugly monster with the form of "half a person."
It was truly only half a person.
It didn’t have a complete lower body, severed at the waist by a sharp weapon. The trailing intestines oozed turbid, ink-colored slime. The bald neck had a healed horrifying wound. The head had long been chopped off. It resembled the legendary Headless Knight, but it had no steed of its own, losing its glory and everything it once protected.
Its soul exiled itself in endless regret.
Even the head held in its hand wasn’t its own; it was from that unlucky fellow who committed suicide earlier.
It didn’t even have its own head.
This hollow head emitted a faint, eerie glow. The eyes were just two bloody holes, the tongue had been pulled out, and the hair was braided into a rope, like a lantern, illuminating everything nearby.
The reality and Spirit Realm’s auras overlapped, thin mist pervaded the room.
The invisible things that were unseen to the naked eye revealed a faint outline, many things invisible in the real world could be seen in the Spirit Realm.
—The Headless Lantern Bearer [Unnamable Illusion] [Evil Spirit].
A bizarre monster reportedly originating from terrifying folklore, twisted to life in the Spirit Realm reflecting reality. They were marked by lanterns made from a severed head, usually someone else’s, sometimes carrying their own if they could find it.
In the Spirit Realm, they were lower guides. If followed, one could easily find a path to death, a delivery to the realm of an unnamable, terrifying existence.
Fog enveloped the air.
The human head held in hand suddenly showed a trace of terror.
As it crawled out from the rift in the Spirit Realm into the room, it seemed to detect something unusual, becoming a little anxious, it wanted to flee back!
Both pale hands trying to extend were attempting to retreat, trying to push its half body back into the Spirit Realm’s rift.
It sensed some inexplicable terror!
—Invisible Hand!
But it was too late now. Shawn immediately took action, two pitch-black Invisible Hands stretching out from his back. Those eerie black hands grabbed the intestines, along with the head it held, forcibly yanking it into the room.
No!
Don’t come any closer!
The monster’s shriek pierced through the room. It couldn’t speak but could express its meaning through emotions.
But it was already too late.
Behind Shawn, the large-framed Gemma quickly completed a Spell, she seemed like an evil old witch, shadow contorting behind her.
At the instant she raised her hand, two black tentacles emerged from her scapulae, coiling around her broad shoulders. These bizarre fleshy tentacles shot out like whips, laced with a hint of inscrutable Negative Energy, instantly wrapping around the twisted monster’s body, pulling its remaining half body out of the rift bit by bit.
—Evil Thought Black Tentacles (3 Rings).
The length of these black tentacles was about five meters, covered with strange suckers, visible to the naked eye. They were physical Summon blood flesh, parasitizing on Gemma’s shoulders after the Spell completed, merging with her blood and flesh, able to attack all enemies within range by thought.
The headless Lantern Bearer let out bursts of terrified screams!
In the eyes of the monsters, Transcendents were also monsters; they wouldn’t fear mortals, but dreaded these ’humanoid monsters.’
Shawn extended two pitch-black, ghostly Invisible Hands from his back, Gemma’s shoulders bursted out two five-meter long black sucker tentacles, by comparison in others’ eyes, the monster carrying a head-lantern with only half a body seemed less ’terrifying’ than initially feared.
