CHAPTER 82: CHAPTER 17: THE INVESTIGATOR’S DAILY LIFE (PART 2)
Hank’s vacation has lasted over a month. It is said that he later sought out a meditation master and is currently training under their guidance to calm his mental state.
This year, he has repeatedly touched the brink of madness, and his rationality is difficult to maintain.
The higher-ups in Night Watcher are considering letting him retire prematurely.
If it were normal retirement, an investigator would retire around the age of forty, but few retire voluntarily because they know they can’t go back, and integrating into ordinary life is challenging even after retirement.
If Hank is unwilling to retire, transferring to an administrative position in the logistics department is also an option.
After all, he is very experienced.
The canteen’s meals are still abundant today. Shawn served himself a portion of beef ribs. Today’s menu includes mushroom soup with a flavor that smells somewhat like a graveyard, similar to what he often drank at the Butcher’s place. Shawn also helped himself to a bowl. He has been eating more vegetarian lately to maintain his physique moderately.
The Wizard Path doesn’t require much physical exercise like warriors who eat and drink heartily every day. Jason’s daily workout involves lifting iron chains weighing a ton, which is astonishing to see.
In the afternoon.
Shawn jogged along the street. He basically no longer does regular patrols and now jogs fifteen kilometers after lunch, all the way to the Roman Imperial Palace near Wushan.
Of course, he is not here for leisure.
Currently, Shawn is not financially secure. Hank’s modifications to firearms and the purchase of Extraordinary Relics have nearly depleted his savings. Visiting the Roman Imperial Palace once or twice a month is manageable, but more would put a strain on his wallet.
His target is the waterfall here.
A slight drizzle fell in the afternoon.
Shawn stood on a cliff over thirty meters high, gazing at the distant, resplendent Roman Imperial Palace. He leisurely took off his clothes, leaving only a snug pair of shorts. In the sunlight, Shawn’s skin appeared fair, with sharply outlined muscles and a firm eight-pack that seemed unusual for a wizard.
"Keep an eye on my clothes."
"Warn me if someone approaches," Shawn signaled to the Invisible Servant.
The Invisible Servant couldn’t speak and remained quietly in place.
Shawn stretched his body and began warming up. Ten minutes later, he stood at the cliff’s edge, looking down at the waterfall and the deep pool about ten meters below.
Whoosh!
Shawn took a deep breath and suddenly leaped off the thirty-meter-high waterfall.
The wind howled.
As he plummeted rapidly, experiencing the feeling of weightlessness, Shawn focused his mind, maintaining his casting concentration. Then, in the instant his sight locked onto the target.
—Dimensional Jump!
Bang.
Water splashed everywhere.
Shawn disappeared abruptly about six meters above the water surface, reappearing just above the water, then plunged into the cold pool.
"It’s a bit cold today!"
Shawn swam a lap in the pool, then climbed ashore, stretched, and climbed back to the cliff edge from the side.
Practicing landing with a flash isn’t that easy.
It took Shawn some effort to find this suitable waterfall where, in case of a mistake, it wouldn’t be fatal, making it ideal for practicing his mastery of Dimensional Jump. A month ago, with his teacher’s support, he completed his second Specialized Spell, which was the 2nd-level Dimensional Jump. After transforming Dimensional Jump into his second Specialized Spell, its casting speed and cooldown time both improved. In Shawn’s understanding, Specialized Spells are almost akin to innate spell-like abilities.
Bang!
Shawn’s figure once again leaped off the waterfall. Training Dimensional Jump under these circumstances greatly enhances his abilities, and as he becomes accustomed, his psychological resilience strengthens, and his inner calm remains undisturbed.
His goal was the mobility provided by Dimensional Jump.
After repeating the exercise a few times, Shawn returned to his original position.
He dressed.
Nearby, he found a slope about four or five meters high. After calculating the height difference, two Invisible Hands extended behind Shawn, and he promptly leaped off.
On the soft soil, two clear handprints suddenly appeared.
With the buffer provided by the Invisible Hands, Shawn’s descent was momentarily halted, then all force was dissipated. He calmly rose, kneeling on one knee, and his figure quickly dashed forward, the Invisible Hands reaching for the tree branch ahead.
Shawn’s nimble figure seemed to fly through the dense forest, the five-meter-high branches swaying slightly. The two Invisible Hands grasped them, leveraging strength to propel Shawn’s figure swiftly across a wide swath of obstacles, landing firmly on the grass ahead.
He continued running, the power of the Invisible Hands swinging Shawn several meters like a swing. Then his figure abruptly vanished from the spot.
—Dimensional Jump.
Shawn’s figure suddenly appeared on the trunk of a large tree.
"Not bad."
"The control has gotten much stronger," Shawn brushed the soil off his body as he rose.
He is a transcendent of the Wizard Path. His physical response speed is not on par with that of Wanderers of the same level, but the Invisible Hands provide him more operational space. As Shawn’s strength grows, the power of the Invisible Hands continues to increase, and controlling them is more convenient than moving his own hands, as he can command them with just his thoughts.
"In the Bizarre Realm, the spells that middle and low-tier wizards can master are limited. It’s not only a resource issue but also about digesting the mental pollution generated by more Extraordinary Relics."
