Chapter 243: The Fallen Heroes

Inside the private laboratory where a large number of prestigious people gathered around, all of them have an important status in the Federation especially in the field of military and medicine. These people have something in common— the vows they swore to protect their planet.

For how many decades, this had been the only promise that they cherished the most because that’s what they and their ancestors failed to do to the original home that they once had, the Earth.

To achieve this, they crawled to a bloody path. Endless sacrifices were made, leaving them with countless deaths from their family and comrades.

With such tragedy, they couldn’t even bring the last remains from their people back home because it was either totally destroyed by the zergs or went missing from the battles. These are just one of the regrets that left on their hearts especially for the comrades that fought together with them.

The constant guilt and blame that they could only forcefully be buried inside them because they couldn’t do anything.

This had always been the untouchable wounds that had been hiding deeply and no one wanted to face.

Until at this moment, just right in front of them a miracle appeared.

One by one, they could clearly see the figures of the unforgettable heroes that left them.

"G-General Hou!" An old veteran soldier couldn’t finally help but step forward towards the old soldier not far away from him.

That General Hou he called was a great and majestic soldier that had once been the Federation’s bravest warrior in the past. He was like the Marshal He at that time wherein he was tirelessly going to war and fight with the zergs.

He was also one of the strongest among them, but how could he last long after such an endless battle? The General Hou that they’ve always looked up to suddenly collapsed. However the latter put his condition hidden so he could still go to war. And as expected, his body couldn’t take the damage anymore.

At the end, he still chose to sacrifice himself to save his soldiers.

His body was never recovered from that war and thus made the Federation fall into deeper misery.

And it’s not just General Hou but also many old soldiers appeared in front of them. Many of them were veterans who were just like General Hou fought tirelessly for the world. They appeared in front of them, with the last appearance that they had before passing.

Some had large wounds with every part of their body and the worst had a missing part such as their limbs. It was such a tragic sight, completely letting all the people see how much pain they suffered before dying.

But even though they looked strange and looked unbelievable, everyone knew that what they’re seeing right now is not an illusion.

For a moment, everyone forgot the commotion as they quickly went to the soldiers they wanted to meet again.

Only Qin An and He Li remained at the back looking at them.

He Li noticed the young man took a few deep breaths after using his spiritual energy to make the souls visible.

He narrowed his eyes. He knew that the young man’s body is not suitable for who he is. Qin An had also discussed this before that he couldn’t just let them see the soul casually because his mortal body couldn’t take the energy.

Now that he compromised and used it, it’s obvious that his body wavered.

This is not a good sign.

"Your body..."

"It’ll be fine," Qin An assured him. "As I’ve mentioned, my body couldn’t really accommodate all the souls to send them but that doesn’t mean that there’s no other way."

They both looked at the old tree. "What do you need to do?"

"I need to get closer to the tree and borrow energy from it. The spiritual energy will help my body to carry the weight."

But that doesn’t clearly mean that he’ll be fine after that. Qin An knew that his body would collapse again after this but he felt no regret.

The time that he spent as a human made him do this.

At first, Qin An didn’t even know why he chose this path. Why accept this job as a grim reaper again when he already chose to give up? Everything was fine after that. He was slowly adapting himself as a normal being, so why bother turning back?

Qin An remembered his conversation with He Li.

Right now, Qin An chose to become a human again.

He chose to become a grim reaper to take them home. From his journey in the competition, he learned many things. He heard many reasons why they wanted to be on the stage, but all of them longed for one thing— peace.

Qin An may still feel confused if he really wanted this new path for himself but he knew that he’s thankful for them.

For the stories, for the company, for the friendship that built— for everything that turned him this way.

So, he also wanted to bring peace for them. And this is what the most special thing that he could do, to take them back home so the wounds inside their hearts will healed.

Looking at the expression on everyone’s face, the happiness and the tears painted on them, he felt something warm rushing inside him. Qin An couldn’t help but feel the loud beating of his heart.

He felt like he could feel the blood circulating inside him, the slight tiredness from earlier, the beating of his pulse and how he could feel his surroundings from his skin... he’s a human.

Not the senior grim reaper they called as No. 444, but a human named Qin An.
