CHAPTER 242: 242: A QUICK CHAT

Crown Prince Elvis was inside his bedroom going through the clothes brought for him to pick from.

His engagement was just around the corner, so he was selecting clothes inside with the help of his butler.

Just then, the door opened and Eden walked in with both hands behind him. Calm as always.

The guards had refused to let him in, but he had threatened his way through.

"What are you doing here?" Mr. George demanded.

"Aren’t I allowed to visit my prince anymore?" Eden questioned, now staring at Elvis who was dressed up in a royal golden attire.

"You look good in those. Maybe you look good in engagements," Eden smiled.

"Why are you here?" Elvis asked.

Their eyes didn’t meet. They avoided meeting while they lingered around each other. An awkward moment for the two.

"I’d like to speak to you," Eden smiled, his eyes finally meeting Elvis after great effort.

"You could wait, maybe when I’m done..." Elvis was saying.

"It’s urgent," But Eden interrupted. "I don’t know when next we’ll get to speak like this. I don’t know if it’ll be possible.. so it should be now."

Eden’s voice was calm as he spoke, staring into Elvis’s eyes. But those words meant urgency. And Elvis felt it.

Eden smiled. "You’re getting married soon, so let’s just speak now. It won’t take too long. You can continue with your selection afterwards."

Elvis hesitated, staring at him. The room was quiet for a while as Mr. George said, "Can’t you see he’s busy? You should go out and wait for him if you want to speak with him—"

But Elvis raised a hand, urging Mr. George to stop. And he did. He still had his eyes on Eden as he said, "You all could go outside," he said to his butler and the maids around.

"Huh? But..." Mr. George wanted to say.

"It won’t take long," Elvis said. "So leave us for some time."

Mr. George slowly and soon left with the maids. Elvis and Eden were the only ones left in the room. The two standing quietly at their ends, staring at each other in the deep silence.

Awkward, quiet moments ate through them. Words lingered through their minds as they quietly stood there, staring at each other.

"You don’t have much time left. You should get straight to the point," Elvis said.

Eden nodded. "Don’t worry. I don’t have much to say anyways. And I’ll get straight to the point."

Eden got out the can of pills the Royal physician had given to him and threw it to Elvis. He caught it.

"What’s this?" Elvis asked.

"The cure to the poison. As promised," He folded his arms. "I’m finally setting you free."

Elvis stared at the pills and then at Eden. "Why? Why are you giving it to me now? Does that mean that our deal has come to an end then?"

Eden didn’t know. He didn’t know why he was giving it to him. He hasn’t gotten all he wanted from him. He hasn’t secured all he wanted. But he guessed he was silly enough to just want him to get better. Not to suffer from the effects of the poison.

It was silly. And that was what Eden believed happens when your heart softens. Like his. You do silly things.

"I guess so," Eden shrugged. "You can see it like that. It’s over maybe?" Eden could tell the fact that he was potentially getting married was getting to him in some petty ways. And he couldn’t help it.

Elvis stared at the pills and then at Eden. He didn’t say anything but his expression was clouded with confusion and uncertainty. He had words he wished to say, but he certainly didn’t say them.

He didn’t dare to.

"What if I end up attacking you? Betraying you and wanting to kill you instead. Then what?" Elvis asked.

Eden smiled. "Then you could do that. I doubt you could even do that. I’m the wizard of EL, remember? You can’t harm me."

They were quiet again. Standing and staring at each other.

Elvis stared at the pills. He took a deep breath in and out. "Is this why you wanted to speak with me?"

Eden smiled. "I wish it was only it. But no," He smiled. Eden guessed he wasn’t going to be minding his business anymore. He was going to have to intervene in a major family feud. A misunderstanding.

He had spent all night thinking about it. Wondering if he should tell Elvis about his mother. If he should tell him about what he knew. What he saw.. what he found out. He thought about all these.

A part of him didn’t want to. A part of him wanted to mind his business and let the plot unfold.

But another part of him couldn’t trust the plot anymore. Especially with what he witnessed Queen Lea doing to Queen Elizabeth. He had decided that if the plot wasn’t going to protect a mother, he would do it. And he would also do it through his son. A son who deserved to know everything at least.

And about getting too involved with the plot? At this point, Eden didn’t care. He had already gotten overly involved in the plot that this obviously wouldn’t change anything.

And with all these thoughts, Eden decided to take the step. Even if it meant being nosy.

"What again?" Elvis asked.

Eden hesitated and then said, "Your mum is being bullied."

The words were calm. Casual. But it had Elvis’s eyebrows raised. "Huh?"

"Do you know?" Eden now stared directly at Elvis. "That your mum is a punching bag in this palace. A punching bag for the King and Queen Lea. She’s someone either of them can trample upon if they can’t get to you."

The room was silent as Eden watched Elvis’s expression crumble in what seemed like confusion.

"Do you know about that at least?" Eden asked, watching Elvis’s expression flicker into something unreadable.
