Bleach: Time Based Shinigami
Chapter 33 33: Shimo’s True Nature
In the end, even Unohana couldn't resist the temptation of swordsmanship.
Especially when what appeared before her was a completely unfamiliar form of zanjutsu.
That temptation was akin to a starving person suddenly being presented with a full-course feast.
If anything, it was even more intense.
Ordinary people simply couldn't withstand such a temptation.
But Unohana still had many responsibilities to handle.
Fourth Division had a massive number of members. Compared to other divisions, its logistics and administrative burdens were significantly heavier—duty assignments, patient treatment, injury reports, arrangements for the relief stations...
Whether it was Unohana or the seated officers under her, one word defined them all—busy.
Led by a Fourth Division Shinigami from the Sixth Relief Unit, Shimo received his Shihakushō and was guided toward his designated barracks.
However, before he even reached the building, he heard a loud commotion echoing from within.
"Trash like you is challenging me with those pitiful little Kidō tricks?
Did you bang your head in the ground?!"
The voice was unbearably grating, like low-grade sandpaper being scraped violently across a blackboard—so harsh it could make your spine shiver. It was torture to the ears.
Shimo frowned deeply and turned to the squad member guiding him.
"What the hell is making that noise?"
The Shinigami leading him was a timid sort, a bit like Yamada Hanatarō in personality. Cowardice seemed almost like a standard trait among some Fourth Division members.
Many Shinigami who feared combat had gathered here. And since Unohana never rejected any applicants, the Fourth Division had become a true melting pot—everything from capable medics to total misfits.
Of course, Shimo couldn't care less about most of that.
Still, if he was going to live here, some things needed to be set straight.
The guide visibly flinched at Shimo's question, his voice trembling as he replied:
"That's... Vice-Leader of our Sixth Relief Unit—Kurikashima Daiki.
After the last team leader left, the position should've gone to him.
But now..."
He glanced cautiously at Shimo.
Shimo's expression darkened instantly.
So, his arrival had taken someone else's promotion?
This situation was starting to feel eerily similar to what happened with Seinosuke.
Fuck... Another extra again?
"Shimo-sama... Are you sure you want to go in now?"
The guide hesitated as they stood before the barracks. Inside, Kurikashima's screeching voice continued its abuse, clearly bullying someone.
"What kind of stupid question is that?"
Shimo walked up to the door—and kicked it in.
CRACK!
The sharp sound of splintering wood instantly silenced Kurikashima's rant.
"Who the hell—?!"
Kurikashima Daiki looked exactly like he sounded—hideously unpleasant. One glance at his ugly face was enough to give anyone nightmares.
Shimo nearly averted his eyes.
"Is this what they call a miracle of creation?"
Staring at the two newcomers, Kurikashima's anger exploded.
"You bastards! This is the Sixth Relief Unit barracks of Fourth Division!
I'm the Vice-Leader here! How dare you cause trouble in my domain?!"
Shimo calmly extended a finger and intoned:
"Bakudō #4: Hainawa. (Crawling Rope)"
Spiritual pressure surged from his fingertip, forming glowing golden ropes that wrapped around Kurikashima's limbs and tied him up completely.
"You little shit! You attacke—mmph!!"
Before he could finish, Shimo sealed his mouth shut as well.
Letting out a long sigh, Shimo muttered in satisfaction:
"Ah... finally, peace and quiet."
Frankly, if this weren't the Fourth Division's barracks, Shimo might've just put the man down permanently.
Keeping someone like this in the Seireitei was nothing short of defilement.
Kurikashima writhed on the ground like a worm, glaring at Shimo with bloodshot, hateful eyes—as if burning the memory of him into his soul for future revenge.
SMACK!
Shimo stepped on his face, then looked around at the stunned squad members.
"Let me introduce myself."
"I'm Kyōraku Shimo. Just joined Fourth Division. Captain Unohana has appointed me as Sixth Seat—and the new Team Leader of the Sixth Relief Unit."
The others stared in disbelief, unable to process what had just happened.
Fortunately, the timid squad member beside Shimo was quick to react, bowing and shouting:
"Welcome, Shimo-sama!"
The rest of the unit slowly came back to their senses and followed suit.
"Welcome, Shimo-sama!"
"Welcome, Shimo-sama!"
Shimo nodded in satisfaction. Though they seemed weak, these members still had potential.
"That thing was bullying you earlier, wasn't it?"
The bruises and black eyes on the other Shinigami left little doubt.
Yet no one dared to speak.
"Don't worry. I've got your back."
With a twist of his foot, Shimo kicked Kurikashima out of the building.
"Go ahead. Beat him."
"As long as you don't kill him, beat him like your lives depend on it.
Return every ounce of abuse he gave you—tenfold!"
