CHAPTER 151: POLITE

That morning, as usual, Oliver made breakfast.

It was nothing fancy, just some bread and meat combined into a sandwich. But the savory fragrance of his cooking was enough to attract the mythical beast.

The little Koi fish swam through the air and circled his cooking station.

Oliver noticed this and smiled.

The glutton still believes they can’t see it.

He carefully placed a plate nearby and moved a couple of sandwiches onto it. Then, he abruptly took two more plates and put them nearby, filling them with their portion of sandwiches.

Root, who was sitting nearby, gave him a questioning look. He had an inkling as to what Oliver was planning.

With a short sigh, he decided not to interfere.

There were two of them and the little Koi, so the third plate was obviously for the Koi fish.

"Do you perhaps want the Koi fish to join us for breakfast?" Root asked.

"Of course. Good food needs to be shared—The more the merrier."

Oliver brought it towards the table placed nearby.

Because of being superhumans, they both have a high appetite. So, there were several sandwiches stacked on the plate.

He brought the plates and placed one before Root. Another one was placed on his side, and the last plate was placed in a corner of the table.

"How do you plan to invite it?"

"I have no idea."

"That’s nice to hear." Root muttered and took a sandwich.

Meanwhile, Oliver gazed up.

Below the tarpaulin sheet, above the table, a small red dot was moving. With the VR headset, he could clearly see its movement.

When Oliver looked at it, the creature froze and moved very slowly.

Yesterday, it made a mistake and removed its camouflage. It was not going to make the same mistake again.

So, with careful precision, it moved through the air, hiding its body under the warped light.

Oliver watched it, took a sandwich, and bit into it.

The taste of cheese, fatty dragon meat, and vegetables flooded his mouth. The intense, mouthwatering flavour washed his tongue, making him lick his lip.

"Splendid! I think I make the best sandwiches in the world." He muttered as he relished the flavour of the sandwich.

Root also enjoyed it.

While it could not be called the best in the world, it certainly was a step above the ones they get from convenience stores.

’Perhaps it was the ingredients.’

Root hid his thought and bit into the sandwich again and again, quickly devouring it.

Meanwhile, the Koi fish circled above, watching everything carefully, salivating.

Just smelling the aroma of the food was making it excited. It had eaten a sandwich before and knew how it tasted. This time, the aroma drifting into the air above was even richer than the one it had previously eaten. So, it had high expectations for it.

Although Oliver’s gaze made it wary, it still flew a little lower to get a better look.

From the expression of the humans, it was known that the food tasted great. So, it wanted to see why this sandwich was special.

Oliver noticed the change in the little Koi fish’s demeanor.

It was inching ever so slowly towards the table.

Abruptly, Oliver grabbed a sandwich that was placed on the table corner and threw it to the exact location where the Koi fish was.

This not only shocked the mythical beast, but it even shocked Root, who was enjoying the food.

Neither expected Oliver to do that.

The sandwich quickly flew in a precise arc to intercept the little Koi fish.

It didn’t know what to do.

It panicked.

It wanted to fly and eat it.

But can it do that?

If it did, wouldn’t it reveal its presence?

Everyone knew where it was and how it moved. All its tricks were revealed in front of Oliver like an open book.

Hiding its presence—it was too late for that.

The little Koi, however, didn’t know any of that.

The flying sandwich coming directly towards it made it panic. A hundred thoughts flew through its tiny head and finally concluded that it should abandon the sandwich.

Even if it meant wasting one of the most delicious foods it had ever eaten, it needed to move away from it.

Oliver, the human, might be testing it.

He might be trying to find its exact location.

It couldn’t allow that.

All rational thought made it move its body to the side.

However, once the sandwich neared, all reason in its tiny head was abandoned.

The delicious aroma of the sandwich made it twitch. It was too good to be thrown on the ground. Once it falls on the dirty ground, it won’t taste as good.

In panic, it returned to its position.

With eyes glossed over, the body of the little Koi warped the space before it and sucked the air around it, along with it bringing the sandwich to its mouth.

Instinctively, it pulled the sandwich into its mouth and chewed.

Despite being the size of a palm, the little Koi swallowed the sandwich whole and chewed.

A slight sweet and savoury taste, along with the spiciness of the meat and crunchiness of the vegetable, greeted the Koi after each chew.

It was soon immersed in the taste, totally forgetting about its situation.

Meanwhile, Oliver and Root observed it closely.

Root was confused as to why it ate the sandwich while it was obviously trying to hide.

On the other hand, Oliver looked at ease, as he was certain everything would happen in the exact way he envisioned.

Honestly, Oliver was anything but certain.

He just cast a line, hoping to get a reaction from the fish. And he indeed got one.

That was why he looked at ease.

And the reaction was better than he expected.

The little Koi had eaten the sandwich mid-air, momentarily revealing its form.

Oliver smiled.

This was the opportunity he was waiting for.

Without hesitation, he picked up another sandwich.

Locking onto the body of the little Koi, he threw the sandwich too.

*Swoosh*

It flew faster, like an arrow through the air.

The Koi, who had just chewed and swallowed the first sandwich, noticed another one coming right towards it.

If it doesn’t do anything, it will collide with his body and scatter into a thousand pieces.

How could it allow that?

The sandwich was too delicious for it to be wasted. The savory taste was still flooding its mouth, filling its mind with desire.

Without hesitation, it opened its mouth and swallowed it.

Just like before, its form momentarily appeared in the air before disappearing. Then it cruised through the air, enjoying the flavour with all its heart.

However, Oliver was not done with it.

He picked up another sandwich and threw it into the air. But this time, the sandwich fell a little short of the Little Koi’s position.

Still, it moved instinctively and bit on it.

The third sandwich was eaten.

Then came the fourth.

Like before, it was a little short of where it stood. So, it flew forward to catch it.

Like that, by the eighth sandwich, the little Koi found itself floating right in the middle of the table where Oliver and Root sat.

It eyed its surroundings, exasperated by what it had done.

*Gulp*

Swallowing the last bits of the sandwich, it looked at Oliver and Root.

By now, the little Koi realised that they could see it.

It didn’t matter if it was in camouflage or not; they were able to see it.

Although not exactly correct, it was close to the truth. Oliver and Root could only see it while it moved.

With the realization that it was visible, its thoughts shifted.

It had been flying around the camp for days. Wouldn’t that mean they knew it was there all this time?

The question made it reconsider the thought of fleeing.

Despite humans knowing about it, they didn’t do anything to harm it. In fact, they most likely left the food behind to feed it.

If they had any ulterior motives, they could have poisoned it.

As a mythical creature, it had higher intelligence. It could think through the situation one by one and analyse the facts.

Though young and naive, it understood that Oliver and Root didn’t mean any harm.

So what should it do now?

The little Koi asked itself and gently floated above the table. It chose to hide its fear and apprehension for the moment to see how the others reacted.

Meanwhile, Oliver picked up another sandwich.

This time, instead of throwing it at the mythical beast, he bit on in. Then he promptly slid his own plate, filled with sandwiches, to it.

The little Koi backed away for a second.

But once it realised Oliver was offering food, it froze and looked up at him.

Oliver was smiling. He didn’t look like he intended any harm.

At the same time, Root also followed suit and did the same.

Now, two plates, having twelve sandwiches in total, were offered to it.

The little Koi’s emotions shifted from apprehension to joy within a second.

Finally, deactivating its camouflage, it gazed up at them with its beady eyes. The white pattern on its midnight black body moved quicker and quicker.

It was as if it was asking for one last permission before eating.

Oliver beckoned with his hand and pointed at the sandwich, asking it to eat.

The Koi vaguely understood what it meant.

But before devouring the sandwiches, it also looked towards Root.

Root did the same.

It relaxed the worried heart of the little Koi.

With a twinkle in its eyes, it immediately pounced on the fresh sandwiches on the table.

"A polite little fellow," Oliver said.
