Bloodbound to the Beastly King
Chapter 90 - 90
The sun was gentle that afternoon, it wasn't scorching like Adina remembered it that day. She sat on a wooden stool just outside Thessara's cabin, a cup of herbal tea in her hands, its scent calming her nerves.
She's been worried all day. Thorne hadn't come to see her nor has she heard anything from him. There were so many questions running through her mind with one topping it. What happened with Elara?
Adina sighed, shaking her head. She glanced to her side and saw Thessara grounding herbs with a pestle, the sound was oddly calming.
"You were lucky," she said without looking up."
"Luck?" Adina repeated.
"To survive an enchantment like that… not many do."
Adina's fingers tightened around the cup, lips palmed into a thin line. "I don't feel lucky." She murmured.
"You don't?" Thessara asked, brows raised a she glanced at Adina. "Why not? You finally have Thorne. Why don't you feel lucky?" She asked.
Adina bit her lips, looking away. She's never felt lucky so having the word associated with her didn't only sound odd but also uncomfortable especially after what happened. The girl from the woods. The one who Elara had sent after her. After what she did to the girl.
She shook her head. "It's just….with all that's happened. I don't think lucky is the word to use." She replied quietly.
Thessara hummed. "And what word would you use?
What word would she use? Adina had no idea. All she knew was that…she didn't feel lucky.
Thessara nodded like she could understand her silence.
Adina took a sip of the tea, then kicked her chapped lips. "What does it mean—" she paused, gaze clouded like she was back in the woods, sinking her fangs into that girls neck. The power surge she'd felt in that moment. It was next to none.
"What does what mean?" Thessara asked.
Adina blinked, hesitating slightly. "C-Can you— Will you tell the king whatever I tell you now?" She asked, hating the way it came out like she wanted to keep secrets from him but she had no choice, right.
"If you don't want me to. I won't tell him."
Thessara replied and Adina just knew she could trust the woman with her life.
She nodded, taking a deep breath. "Back in the woods when the girl spelled me. I- she kept talking, she said a lot of things and I snapped. I don't know if it was the spell but I snapped and I threw her against a tree. I jumped at her and tore her skin off her body." She paused, glancing at the woman who didn't show even a flicker of emotion.
"I killed her right there." She whispered.
Thessara hummed casually, "What's your question?" She asked.
"I-I don't have any. I just—" she paused, shitting her eyes, remembering how it had felt in that moment. It was powerful, like her veins were stretching and her body was being filled with something else. She'd only felt like that once and that was in Crystal moon.
"The feeling, it was euphoric. Powerful and exhilarating. It was also painful, the pain was crushing and I wanted it gone with all of my being." She opened her eyes to see the woman staring at her. "I've only felt that way once. When—" she trailed off.
She'd only felt like that that day Cassandra tried to kill her. Her sister would've been successful if Adina hadn't snapped.
Roman had returned from some merger and Cassandra had thrown the largest party to welcome him. She'd also chosen that day to reveal her pregnancy to him. Unfortunately she over heard Adina's conversation with the healer and chose right that moment to do away with her. She'd grabbed a knife and was going to stab Adina with it.
The words she had said. They were despicable. Taunting and painful. Adina had struggled, pleaded and screamed for help but she got nothing…not until she felt that snap in her again. She still couldn't tell how it happened. How Cassandra was the one flipped and stabbed so deep, the entire floor was filled with her blood.
"When?" There's voice broke her out of her thoughts. She blinked, clearing her throat.
"When I was in danger." She replied.
Thessara hummed. "So you only feel that snap in you whenever you're in danger. What does that mean?" She asked.
Adina looked down to her feet. "I have no idea." She whispered.
"Have you ever thought that maybe you're meant for something much greater?" Thessara asked.
"What do you mean?"
Thessara shook her head. "You'll understand soon. I can feel it coming. Soon, everything that's hidden will come to light." She paused, glancing at Adina.
"Tell me, Do you know who your birth parents are?" Thessara asked.
Adina's brows furrowed. "How do you know that I'm adopted?" She asked. Was adopted the right thing to say?
Her mother came into Crystal moon years ago, on the brink of death and heavily pregnant. She took her last breath the second Adina took her first breath.
Since she died in Cassandra's parents home, they took her in and made her a member of crystal moon.
Thessara shrugged. "I just know."
Adina stared at her but didn't choose to dwell on it. She shook her head. "I don't knoww how they were." She replied.
Thessara nodded, "Don't worry your head about it. Instead, get ready to learn. You'll come to my shed every three days and I'll teach you. I'll gear you up and make sure you're ready."
"Ready? Ready for what?" Adina asked.
"I said don't worry about it and stop distracting me. I need to find a cure to that silly spell laced on you before your mate turns my home upside down." She huffed out.
Adina looked away, cheeks heating up at the woman's words. Before she could reply her, the door opened and Mason stepped in, bowing to Thessara.
"Gamma Mason. You're here to collect his majesty's mate, right?" She asked.
Masons lips parted, he hadn't even said it but the woman knew. What a show off.
"Can you read minds now, Thessara?" He asked like he wished he could do that.
Thessara cocked her brows. "Is there anyone one earth that can read minds, Gamma? I only know because his majesty told me." She replied, standing up.
"Now, if you'll excuse me. I have to get herbs for this one." She motioned at Adina before walking away.
