CHAPTER 56: IT’S A TRAP!

"Alright, enough!"

Isabel Reid scolded her child for their rudeness. After ensuring that the four of them kept quiet, she then turned her gentle gaze toward Noah.

"Young man, may I call you Noah?" her tone was lower than before.

"Yes, ma’am..."

"Call me, Isabel..." She smiled and invited Noah to take a seat on the empty sofa. "You as well, Edgar. Don’t just stand there."

"Thank you, old madam." With a gentle nod, Edgar acknowledges his master mother warmly before inviting Noah to take a seat beside him, where they both settle comfortably.

Noah felt relieved when he noticed that one person here still appeared neutral about his status.

Nevertheless, he remained silent. He let Edgar speak to them while he continued to observe.

"Noah, I hope you can forgive my children. Their words might sound a bit harsh, but I truly hope you can understand where their suspicions are coming from. It’s just that my second son never had the chance to marry before he passed away."

Noah was surprised to learn his father had never married. The day before, he tried to get Zoe to tell him about his father, but she couldn’t reveal anything about Anderson Morgan.

When Noah noticed Isabel gazing at him as though she hoped he would say something, he couldn’t help but respond.

"Yes, I understand, Ma’am—"

"I’m glad to hear that. And I hope you agree to do a DNA test, Noah. Because only with that choice will we believe you." Isabel smiled, but Noah could perceive the true nature of this woman; her gaze was entirely like the others.

’What do you expect? They all never accept you as their family!’ Noah silently talks to himself in his mind while glancing at Edgar, allowing him to respond.

"Ma’am, we completed the DNA test. You can view the results here," Edgar stated evenly, giving the DNA test results to Isabel Reid and a duplicate to Alexander Morgan.

Alexander and Isabel promptly checked the paper. There is no hint of happiness or shock on their faces as they peruse the test results; only a sense of calmness remains.

Soon enough, Alexander Morgan smiled, glancing at Noah before his eyes settled on Edgar.

"We can’t accept this, Edgar. This young man needs to do another DNA test with me."

A calm smile slowly appeared on Alexander Morgan’s lips, but vanished instantly when Edgar firmly refused.

"I’m sorry, sir. We can’t do that again. Mr. Anderson stated in his will that no second DNA test should be conducted."

"Edgar, you!!" Andrew Morgan, the first son, shouted, jabbing a finger at Edgar. "How dare you speak that way to my father?" His face appeared to redden as if all the blood were rushing under his skin.

However, Edgar focused solely on Alexander Morgan and Isabel Reid, ignoring Andrew entirely. He had no interest in anyone else.

Just as Alexander Morgan was about to say something, the sound of a few pairs of feet from the doorway made him stop and smile upon seeing his lawyer and eldest grandson arrive.

"You’ve arrived, Jeremy... Patrick..." Alexander said as he stood up from the sofa. "We can start the family meeting now. Let’s head to my office!"

Before leaving the living room, Alexander Morgan cast a glance at Edgar.

"Only family—and Noah—are allowed to enter. You stay here, Edgar!"

Suddenly, Edgar’s previously calm expression shifted to one of stiffness. He cast a worried glance at Noah, realizing he couldn’t allow him to go in alone; otherwise, they would force him into signing the letter that would release Anderson Morgan’s assets.

"Sir, we should go now. You don’t need to follow them," Edgar whispered, eyeing the others as they left the room.

"Edgar, let me ask you something. Why did you stop them from doing a DNA test? Did you worry that it would not match?"

"You can’t trust anyone, sir, not even them. If they set up the DNA test, they’ll manipulate the results, regardless of how accurate they seem. They won’t accept you. It’s a trap!"

Noah chuckled and stood up, saying, "I know, it’s a trap."

Edgar hurriedly followed Noah and prepared to leave the Morgan family house.

"Edgar, you stay here..." Noah calmly says, but with a commanding tone, as he approaches his first uncle, who is waiting for him with an angry expression.

"Wait, young master Noah, sir, please wait..." Edgar panicked as he tried to follow him. "Please, sir. You should not go there alone."

Noah halted his step and turned to look Edgar in the eyes.

"Edgar, you don’t know what you are talking about. But maybe you will learn more about me and trust me in time. No one could harm me even if they tried. And if you worry that I will agree with their demand, then you have taken me for a fool. DON’T!"

He firmly squeezed Edgar’s shoulder and smiled to reassure him.

"You wait for me outside the room. If you hear me call your name, you may forcefully enter. But other than that, stay here, do nothing."

Edgar was a bit surprised to see how sharp Noah’s gaze was now and how firm and confident his posture was.

’Could he protect himself from them...!?’ Edgar wondered, reluctant to let him enter Alexander Morgan’s office. But seconds later, Matthew’s words appeared in his mind.

"Alright, sir. I trust you. I’ll wait outside. Just scream or call my name if you need help."

"Hmm!"

Noah left Edgar and followed Andrew Morgan into the room.

...

"Young man, you can sit over there," Alexander Morgan said, gesturing to the chair across from him.

Noah sat calmly, his eyes unwavering as he met Alexander Morgan’s gaze. This man truly resembles his father.

"Do you know why we are having this family meeting with you, even if we still doubt your identity?" Alexander Morgan asked.

"I don’t know."

"I want to update my will and exclude my second son, Anderson Morgan since he has no heirs. But suddenly, you appear as Anderson’s son out of the blue..."

Alexander’s expression darkened as he directed an angry stare at Noah.

"Young man, there’s no need to put on an act. I’m aware that Edgar hired you to pose as my grandson to inherit my family’s wealth and my son’s assets, correct?"
