Bloodline Reckoning: The System Made Me Filthy Rich
Chapter 61: Priority
CHAPTER 61: PRIORITY
Alicia took the bank card, struggling to suppress her tears of joy, overwhelmed by gratitude for Noah’s kindness, despite not being related by blood.
"Thank you, brother Noah. I will work hard to make you proud!"
"I will look forward to it..."
"Brother, have you breakfast?"
"Not yet. I rush to come visit you and forget about it."
Alicia laughed as she stood up, "I will cook for us."
"Make it more for Jason as well."
"Hmm, I will..."
...
Suddenly, a knock on the door could be heard, and Noah looked at it.
"Jason. It must be him," he said and rose from his seat to open the door.
When Noah opened the door, he was surprised to find that it wasn’t Jason but a young woman with pixie-style brunette hair standing in front of him, her eyes level with only his shoulder.
Just looking at her casual outfit in shorts and a T-shirt, he guessed she was in her early twenties.
’Maybe she’s a university student too,’ Noah thought. But when he saw her sharp, fierce gaze, he began to doubt his own judgment.
Before Noah could ask, the woman smiled at him as she started to speak, "Mr. Morgan, my name is Lizzy. Mr. Edgar assigned me to stay next door as your sister’s undercover security detail..."
Noah was a little surprised.
He never told Edgar to assign anyone to guard his sister. Now, discovering that Edgar had already done so, he realized there was a looming threat over Alicia—if anyone found out her true identity as his sister.
However, he still can’t fully trust this woman and needs to verify that she’s truly someone Edgar assigned.
’Zoe, is this woman telling the truth?’ he asked as he stepped out and closed the door behind him.
’Yes, she’s part of the Yellow Team and will be residing near your sister’s apartment. However, her responsibilities are confidential, even from your sister. Would you like me to share her profile with you?’
’No need. I only wanted to confirm she was someone I could trust to guard my sister.’
"I see. Okay, then. Lizzy... Have you met my sister?" Noah asked in a low voice, not wanting Alicia to hear them.
"Not yet, sir. I hadn’t planned to introduce myself earlier, but Jason called and mentioned you were here. I just came by to greet you," Lizzy replied. Noticing his frown, she quickly added, "I hope I didn’t disturb you, sir..."
"No, it’s fine. But could you stop calling me ’sir’? Just call me Noah; otherwise, people might think I’m your boss."
Lizzy blinked, looked at Noah for a moment, then replied calmly, "But, sir, you are my boss..."
Noah grew increasingly weary of constantly reminding those around him to call him by his name—Edgar, Matthew, and even Zoe—only to see no one pay attention to his requests. Now, Lizzy, too.
"Just make sure that if you meet me while my sister is nearby, you remember your assignment..." He had given up asking her to call him by his name.
"No worries, sir. I remember my duty."
"Good! Alright, I’ll leave my sister in your care, Lizzy." Noah won’t worry about leaving Alicia alone because Lizzy will make sure she’s safe and let them know if anything happens to her.
"You can trust me, sir." Lizzy nods slightly and excuses herself.
Noah stood there for a while, gazing at Lizzy as she entered her apartment right next to Alicia’s place.
Then, the elevator door opened and Jason stepped out.
A faint smile appeared on Noah’s lips as Jason drew nearer, having been worried earlier that Jason wouldn’t be able to access the elevator without a card.
"So, you have another card access from Lizzy?"
"Oh, you already met her? Oh wow, she is full of initiatives. I just called her five minutes ago..." Jason chuckled and looked at Lizzy’s apartment.
"Yeah, she came by to introduce herself..." Noah turned to open the door but paused, glancing at Jason. "Make sure Alice didn’t know about her..."
"No worries, Edgar already mentioned it to me."
...
When Noah and Jason entered the house, Alicia had already set the table with simple toast and scrambled eggs.
She gives a gentle, helpless smile before sharing her concern.
"Sorry, I only have this in my fridge. You should have told me in advance if you wanted to visit so I could have prepared a better breakfast..."
Then poured milk into their glasses, urging them to sit in their chairs.
"It’s okay. I’m used to having this for breakfast," Noah flashed a gentle smile before he took a bite of his toast. He fondly remembered those simpler mornings when he was still struggling financially — back then, he ate this almost every day, though without milk.
"This is my favorite! How did you know, Alice?" Jason smiled at her before taking a sip of his milk.
Alicia, "...."
She was amazed as she looked at these two men, thinking they were seriously like her toast and scrambled eggs.
’Did they like it? Or did they just want to make me happy?’
Alicia wondered, trying to find a subtle hint in their gaze, but she saw nothing instead. They ate happily, and Jason even finished in just a few bites.
"Thank goodness you like it. I was worried for nothing..." Alicia then sat opposite them and started eating her scrambled eggs.
However, she had not yet even chewed her toast. Noah’s words almost choked her.
"Alice, you are not permitted to bring a man into this apartment..."
Cough! Cough!
Alicia quickly took a sip of her milk, her face flushing with surprise at his words.
"I won’t! I won’t bring anyone here," she firmly declared.
"Alright, be good here. I’ll visit you every weekend, or you can call Edgar if you’d like to come over to my house."
Noah ensured Alicia’s safety before he finally left her. Although he’s worried someone might harm her, there’s little he can do about it for now. He could only trust Lizzy to protect her.
...
On the way to the car, Noah made an order, ’Zoe, from now on, Alice becomes your priority. Make sure to notify me if something unusual happens to her.’
’Yes, sir—’
