Chapter 1982: Chapter 634: Coveting the Artifact (Part 4)
Old Gecko muttered a few words indistinctly, but before Old Liu could press further, the Mulanese had already raised a white battle flag and ceremoniously came to Witherspoon City’s gates to issue a challenge.
This era’s challenges had no substance; they merely informed the other side, “I’m going to attack you; either surrender quickly or prepare to die!”
Such psychological warfare had no effect on seasoned armies.
“Before our commander raises the city-sacking flag, all Beamon barbarians, lay down your weapons immediately and open the gates! Otherwise, when our troops arrive, every man taller than a camel’s knee in Witherspoon will be beheaded!” The Mulan envoy, though gaunt, had a loud voice and shouted atop a camel in broken Bemont Universal Language, echoing in all directions.
“Such arrogant robbers! Shoot him dead!” Old Gecko snorted and waved at the archers of the Temple Knights.
The Mulan envoy stood five hundred yards away, well out of bowshot range, prompting the sharpshooting Temple Knights to shake their heads.
“I’ll do it!” Tevis stood up, took a longbow and an arrow, snapped off a piece of armor from a Temple Knight, and drew out a silk thread to firmly tie the bent armor piece to the arrowhead.
“Fixed-wing? Isn’t this an exclusive technique of the Elves?” whispered a few guards of the Summer Palace.
“We still have to adhere to the rules of war. They are under a white flag; we can’t just kill such a low-ranked official,” Liu Zhenhuan remained seated, advising Tevis, “Just give him a lesson!”
With a “woong” sound of the bowstring, the arrow, with the armor piece tied to it, flew in a whistle; moments later, with a “crack” of shattering wood, the deadly arrow pierced straight through the white flagstaff in the Mulan envoy’s hand like a skewer, leaving the feathers trembling.
The Mulan envoy’s eyes went wide, the arrow just two palms away from his chest.
The city wall erupted in cheers and whistles.
“So you’re a priest skilled in both song and combat.” Liu Zhenhuan smacked his lips, examining Tevis repeatedly, then suddenly chuckled, “Tevis, let me give you some advice. Even if your martial skills are excellent, never recklessly engage in close combat again; it’s not a good habit!”
“Why?” Tevis felt puzzled. Why would this Shaman of Divine Songs, known nationwide for his martial prowess, say such a thing?
“Every priest’s life is precious,” Liu Zhenhuan spoke honestly, having only recently realized how accurate and meticulous the codes in the “Ceremonial Code” were. “Warriors have their responsibilities, priests have theirs. I’m not criticizing your bravery, but if something were to happen to you, the kingdom couldn’t bear such a loss.”
Seeing Tevis’s bewildered look, Liu Zhenhuan smiled self-deprecatingly, knowing his words were in vain; only time’s tempering would mature the young.
“The Mulan Empire comprises over a hundred tributary states and thousands of ethnic groups. Our camel troops can overshadow their shadows, and our scimitars can block the penetrating north winds…” The Mulan envoy, undeniably fearless, retreated a hundred yards on his camel, feeling out of the arrow’s reach, and continued to boast about the Mulan people to the city wall while holding the pierced white flag.
“Tell your leader I’ve prepared a wolfdog cage, ready to hold him!” Liu Zhenhuan leaned over the city wall, taunting the envoy while observing the Mulanese’s actions.
A large number of Mulan cavalry dismounted their camels, and a sizeable group of Imams began chanting spells, indicating this vanguard corps intended to attack the city shirtless.
Old Gecko urgently prompted the Temple Knights to prepare, and the city wall became bustling with noise and clanking armor.
“Sharp-tongued coward, after we break the city, our Mulan army will make your skull into a chemetic device, and your wife will become a slave to countless men!” The Mulan envoy’s cursing was indeed vicious.
“Pavel, seal this dog’s mouth!” Liu Zhenhuan straightened up, looking coldly at the fool six hundred yards away.
Two arrows collided mid-air in a “Marse Rotation,” altering their trajectory, and in an instant, a sharp arrow pierced the Mulan envoy, entering from his upper lip and exiting diagonally through his chin, the powerful force even pulling him off the camel saddle.
“The Mulan Imams are using the Light and Shadow Illusion Technique to cover the Phantom Beast Knights and that Dragon Knight! They plan to launch a stealthy surprise attack!” Moer’s eyes sparkled with a strange ripple, subtly pointing forward with her lips.
“Hey!” Liu Zhenhuan was overjoyed and quickly whispered to Fat Luo behind him, “Immediately inform the Phantom Beast Knights to remove their armor and rest on the spot! The Magic Protector and guards pretend to be clueless; when Moer makes a move, we will all strike together!”
Without the ten-thousand-year-old documentation from the Yufrey Butterfly People, the Mulanese found their cleverness led to foolishness and suffered a grave misfortune.
