Born In Ashes: The Enigma
Chapter 162: Wind Affinity
CHAPTER 162: WIND AFFINITY
"You are going to Lorato City?" Azrael asked in a surprised voice, looking at Elyara.
"Yes, I want to check something there," Elyara nodded simply, without explaining further.
Azrael recalled the information about Lorato City, remembering that it was a city located in the far east, about 2,000 kilometers away from their current location.
This city hadn’t been much affected by the activities of the Transcendent Organization, and the number of people who had disappeared from there was less than five.
’Since she wants to go there, she must have discovered something,’ Azrael thought and then looked at Luo Bingqing.
"And you are planning to go to New Port City?"
"Hmmm," Luo Bingqing nodded. "I found some strange things about this city when I was looking at the information Major Glen shared with us yesterday. I want to go there to see if I can find anything."
"Alright," Azrael nodded without asking what they had discovered. "I will be going to Freta City. If you guys find something or need help, you can contact me or Major Glen for assistance."
All three of them had breakfast together, and after that, they split up.
Using the hover cars provided by the hotel, Azrael and the others left for their respective destinations.
Unlike the academy city of Planet Arkanis, the roads of Planet Fras were less crowded, allowing the hover cars to move at a faster speed without any trouble.
As a result, in just five minutes, Azrael reached Freta City, which was fifty kilometers away from the hotel.
When Azrael entered the city, it was already late morning, about 9 o’clock. However, even then, as the hover car glided through the streets, he noticed that there weren’t many people on the roads.
Even during rush hours, several shops were still closed. Some members of the security forces were patrolling the area, and to Azrael, it looked as if the city was under curfew.
’Must be because so many people disappeared from this city...’ He thought inwardly and instructed the car’s AI to head to the nearest hotel.
A few minutes later, the car stopped in front of a moderately sized hotel. Azrael parked the vehicle and booked a room for himself.
Even during the booking process, the receptionist asked for his identification and questioned him about his purpose, following the strict instructions of the city’s security forces.
Once inside his room, Azrael looked out from the window at the somewhat deserted street below.
As he stood there, his heart gradually grew calm, his face becoming devoid of any expression, as if he were not a living being but a stone statue.
Slowly, his senses began to expand and after a few minutes, he felt the wind flowing all around his surroundings.
Woosh! Woosh! Woosh! — — —
He didn’t use any cosmic energy to control the wind, yet the gusts of wind still began to revolve around him, almost as if they were greeting him.
"Honey, you should take a leave from work until the kidnappers are caught."
"I am telling you, it’s the work of a very dangerous organization that kidnaps people and feeds them to monsters."
"Umm... We should do it somewhere else. What if someone sees us?"
"Hahaha, that guy tried to capture me, but I knocked him out with just a single punch."
"Meat buns, meat buns, fresh and tasty meat buns."
"Shut up. If you make any sound, I will turn you into eunuch."
The gusts of wind carried countless voices with them, and as Azrael tried to communicate with the wind, he began to hear more and more different conversations.
Ever since he had used the Heart of Wind to activate his power, Azrael had felt an extraordinary closeness to the wind.
Not only did the Heart of Wind grant him one hundred percent resistance against wind element, but it also elevated his affinity with it to the maximum limit.
As a result, whenever he focused on the wind, it would circle around him on its own, as if it were joyfully greeting him, even without the aid of cosmic energy.
Of course, without channeling energy into it, he couldn’t use this wind for combat purposes such as attacking. However, by deeply concentrating and attempting to communicate with the wind, he could even summon it from distant places.
Just like now—Azrael’s focused intent drew winds from afar, which came rushing toward him, brushing against his face warmly, as though acknowledging his presence before blowing away again.
Through these gusts, he heard the countless voices that they carried along.
As time passed, thousands of voices poured into his mind every few seconds. To process them all, Azrael had to employ both of his consciousnesses together with his Infinite Comprehension Trait.
Though he wasn’t using any energy to communicate with the wind or hear the voices it carried, processing such a massive influx of information was no easy task.
Within just an hour, beads of sweat dripped down his forehead, and an intense throbbing pain spread through his head.
Yet, the Cold Blooded Trait allowed him to remain focused despite the searing burn in his mind from processing so many voices simultaneously.
’Not this one... Not this either... This isn’t it as well...’ Azrael carefully sifted through the sea of voices, trying to uncover any clue that might be related to the members of the Transcendent Organization.
Two more hours passed. By now, Azrael’s forehead was visibly swollen, and the stabbing pain in his head was so overwhelming he felt as though his mind might explode from the sheer weight of information.
Woosh! Woosh! — — —
The gusts of wind circling around him grew even stronger, almost alive, brushing against his face as though they were worried about him.
’Do I need to try again later?’ Azrael wondered while clenching his fists tightly.
A few more minutes passed, and blood began to flow from his nostrils, making him realize he had reached his limit.
Just as he was about to stop and try again later, another voice carried by the wind flowed into his consciousness and his lips curled upward into a faint smile.
’Found it.’
