Born In Ashes: The Enigma

CHAPTER 251: A NEW STAT (PART 2)
Inside his hover car, Azrael sat with a deep frown on his face as it moved toward his mansion.
He recalled what the healer had told him after carefully examining No. 4 and sighed inwardly.
"What could be the reason?" He muttered under his breath, gazing out of the car window.
After Luo Bingqing brought him to the healer he had mentioned earlier, Azrael explained No. 4’s situation in detail.
He showed the healer the test tube she was in and even told him how she had been injected with the blood of a half-dragon.
The healer Luo Bingqing introduced to him was a Level 118 being, a planetary-level existence.
After examining No. 4, even he was stunned, for he discovered that No. 4 was completely fine physically. There were a few minor problems caused by the injection of the half-dragon’s blood, but they were not serious and could easily be healed with the right medicines.
However, the real problem lay with her soul. For some reason, her soul was heavily injured, and its power was completely exhausted, as though she had used a very high-level spiritual skill.
But that was impossible.
No. 4 was just a normal human being, only fifteen years old. She wasn’t even an Awakened individual, so it was inconceivable for her to use such a powerful spiritual skill that not only drained all her spiritual power to the point of non-recovery even after several days, but also injured her soul so gravely.
’It’s impossible for her to have used a spiritual skill. Not to mention how rare spiritual skills are, it’s almost impossible for an Unawakened individual to learn one, because even to reach the entry level in a spiritual skill, one needs a corresponding amount of spiritual power. Without sufficient spiritual power, it’s impossible to learn such a skill no matter what...’ Azrael thought to himself, narrowing his eyes.
’My spiritual power was far higher than others when I was still unawakened, yet even then, I couldn’t learn a spiritual skill because my spiritual power was still insufficient to support it,’ He reflected, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
’Since it’s not a spiritual skill, then there are only two possibilities...’ Azrael opened his eyes.
’Either it was Boris who did something to her soul, injuring it severely and exhausting her spiritual power or... it was something No. 4 did herself.’
He paused briefly before showing a thoughtful look.
’Maybe, similar to me, she also has a trait that existed even before her awakening, a trait that consumes spiritual power. She might have overused it, which resulted in her soul being damaged.’
Azrael sighed inwardly and shook his head.
"If it’s because of a trait, then it definitely wouldn’t be an ordinary one. After all, traits that utilize spiritual power are quite powerful..."
He muttered as he thought about his own Infinite Comprehension trait, which also utilized spiritual power.
However, the amount it consumed was very low and only affected him when he pushed the trait to its limits or attempted to comprehend something extremely complex.
"The healer said it would take at least a week for her soul to heal. Let’s hope nothing goes wrong during that time."
Azrael looked at the message he had received from Oliver earlier and thought for a moment.
"He already has a potion that can help me reach the Epic Level..." He muttered, rubbing his chin while his gaze fell on his status window.
His eyes stopped at his stat points, and after a moment of thought, he reached a decision.
"Before breaking through to the Epic Rank, I should increase the level of Unyielding Body."
Azrael’s skill, Unyielding Body, was currently at the entry level. It was a defensive skill that strengthened the body.
Although its primary effect was to enhance physical defense, it also slightly increased the body’s other stat points. When Azrael first reached the entry level in Unyielding Body, his defense had increased significantly, while his other stats had also shown slight improvement.
When one reached the Legend Rank, their soul began to take shape, transforming from a formless existence into a solid one.
The foundation for this transformation was laid at the Epic Rank. The stronger a person’s physical body was at the Epic Rank, the more powerful and condensed their soul would become upon reaching the Legend Rank.
The soul and the physical body were deeply interconnected. If one’s physical body was strong, the soul would naturally need to grow stronger as well to maintain balance.
When Ashara had given Azrael a meditation technique, she told him that people usually began to practice meditation only after becoming Legend-Rank Warriors, because before solidifying their soul, it was extremely difficult to practice any meditation technique.
After becoming a Legend-Rank Warrior, everyone had to practice a meditation technique; otherwise, their chances of advancing to the Planetary Level would be very low.
This was because, from Apprentice Warrior to Epic Rank, a person’s spiritual power increased very slowly compared to their physical strength.
During the Legendary Rank, when one’s soul became solidified, it was crucial to strengthen it further to bring it closer in power to the physical body. Failing to do so would create an imbalance between body and soul, hindering any progress toward the Planetary Level.
From this perspective, it might seem as if having extremely high physical stats would make it harder to reach the Planetary Level in the future, since the stronger one’s body, the more powerful one’s soul needed to become to maintain balance. And, in truth, that assumption wasn’t wrong.
However, most people still tried to enhance their physical stats as much as possible before reaching the Legendary Rank, because once the soul solidified and one began practicing meditation, the soul’s power would grow rapidly, depending on the individual’s physical strength.
It was similar to how living beings adapted to their environment.
The soul, too, adapted to the strength of the physical body. If the soul failed to adapt, it would be unable to maintain equilibrium with the body and would eventually collapse.
As a result, when one practiced meditation after becoming a Legend-Rank Warrior, their soul’s strength increased rapidly, directly influenced by their physical capabilities.
Before becoming an Epic Rank Warrior, Azrael wanted to raise Unyielding Body to the Mid Level, as that would further increase his physical stats. However, practicing Unyielding Body placed tremendous strain on the body, preventing him from training it continuously in a short period.
Still, if he reached the Mid Level first and then broke through to the Epic Rank, most of the physical burden caused by the skill would instantly recover when his life level increased tremendously upon advancement.
If that happened, he wouldn’t have to wait for his body to recover before continuing his training.
Once his body recovered through his breakthrough, he could immediately resume practicing Unyielding Body, allowing him to reach high level in a short amount of time without wasting weeks or even months on recovery.
This approach would significantly boost his stats in a short time, and higher stats would, in turn, help him strengthen his soul faster, since, unlike others who began meditation only after reaching the Legend Rank, Azrael had already been practicing it for quite some time.
Using his smart band, Azrael sent a list of materials to Oliver, instructing him to prepare them along with the potion. These materials were the ones required for him to advance Unyielding Body to the Mid Level.
Once done, he closed his status window and shut his eyes. But just as he did so, a bold idea regarding his Causality Points flashed in his mind, making his heart skip a beat.
"Will it work?" He murmured in a low voice, staring at the Causality Points on his status window.
He remained silent for a moment, then finally decided to test it.
Taking a deep breath, he opened his mouth and made a wish.
