“It wasn’t her, who else could it be!” Charlie sighed.

Megan stopped talking. After a while, she said angrily again, “That damn Katrina, I wish I could skin her alive right now.”

Katrina was arrested by the police, and Curtis had already told them that she was the one who fired the gun.

Charlie was quiet for a while, then said sarcastically, “She’s the daughter–inw you picked.”

When Megan heard that, her face turned pale and green with anger and shame. “You never really know what someone’s thinking. She used to be so sweet and sensible. How was I supposed to know she was so vicious and stupid?”

Charlie didn’t say anything.

“I’ll have someone go tell Iris right now and ask her toe see Heriberto.”

Megan wiped the tears off her face and said generously, “If she can stay with Heriberto this time, help him wake up soon and get better, I won’t hold her past mistakes against her. I’ll agree to let her remarry Heriberto.”

Charlie just thought it was funny and suddenlyughed out loud, “Megan, are you still not getting it?”

“bBack /bthen, it wasn’t that Iris bwasn’t /bgood benough /bfor the Hale farb it bwas /bbthat /bour Hale family wasn’t good enough for her. bAnd /bit wasnt that Heriberto didn’t want her, it was that she didn’t bwant /bHeriberto you know?”

He almost shouted the next sentence.

What he said, Megan knew now too.

She’d been spoiled and proud all her life, so there was no iway /ishe could casily lower her proud head to anyone.

Seeing that she really looked terrible, Charlie didn’t say anything more to her. He sighed and said, “It’s toote today. Tomorrow morning. I’ll go ask Iris myself.”

“She’s just a junior, and you still had to go invite her yourself.” Megan was annoyed.

“Then if it’s Merlin, shouldn’t I be the one to invite him?” Charlie asked.

Megan pouted, “Merlin is Merlin, Iris is Iris.”

“Yeah, you’re right, now Iris was Merlin’s boss, her status was higher than Merlin’s. If I didn’t go ask her, she wouldn’t necessarily be willing,” Charlie retorted.

Megan opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say, so she just shut up and decided not to say anything.

I knew her because I was worried about Heriberto. He didn’t bsay /banything, just quietly stayed with her.

Around midnight, Laurel finally brought news from the hospital.

After hearing the surgery was a sess, Heriberto was still alive, band /bhe had already been moved to the ICU, Iris finally felt a bit more at

ease.

“How is he now?” Iris asked.

“The doctor said it’s just out of danger for now, and we still had to see how things went in the next 72 hours,” Laurel answered.

Iris nodded, “You go get some rest.

“Yes.” Laurel turned and left.

Aedan walked over and gave Iris’s shoulder a squeeze, “If you’re still worried, I’ll go to the hospital with you to see him tomorrow morning. It’s sote now, let’s get some rest, okay?”
