Breaking Free from the Ex-Husband
Ex-Husband 392
The grandpa and grandson looked at each other for a few seconds. Ezekiel blinked his big dark eyes and asked Heriberto, “Dad, look, is he your dad?”
Heriberto looked over when he heard the sound.
Isabe looked over too.
Seeing Charlie with red eyes and tears all over his face, Isabe was confused, “Dad, why does grandpa cry just like you?”
“Dad sure wasn’t a crybaby.”
Heriberto said this, then just casually andzily sat down in the mud, pulled Isabe over, set her on hisp, and kissed the top of her head.
“Dad cried because he saw you and Zeke, he was so happy. That’s called crying tears of joy.”
“Cried tears of joy…”
Isabe looked at him, thought about those four words for a bit, then asked, “So was Grandpa also crying tears of joy?”
“I don’t know, you gotta ask him,” Heriberto said, not looking at Charlie.
Isabe nodded, then looked at Charlie with her big bright eyes and asked, “Grandpa, is that you?”
Charlie looked at the three of them, father and sons, and got so excited that he started shaking all over.

He wanted to say “yes,” but his mouth opened and closed, and suddenly he couldn’t make a sound, so he just nodded hard instead.
Ezekiel lost it and walked over holding a big lump of mud in his arms.
Then, the chubby little muddy hand grabbed his trembling old hand, looked up with a round head and asked him, “Grandpa, why are you so happy and excited?”
The kid’s hand was really soft and warm.
When Ezekiel’s chubby little hand held him, Charlie felt like he was wrapped up in a warm, fluffy cloud.
He hadn’t felt like this in years.
Can’t remember.
Probably, it was when Julian and Heriberto were really, really little.
They grew up, got sensible, and never held his hand again.
He squatted down in the clouds, his eyes blurred with tears as he looked at his grandson in front of him, and said in a trembling voice, “Because Grandpa saw you, saw your little sister, saw you together with your dad.”
“Grandpa, did you like us too? Thene on,e y with us.”
Isabe was warm and generous, really outgoing. As she spoke, she happily waved at Charlie and called him over.
But Heriberto wasn’t happy.
Ezekiel and Isabe were his son and daughter, so why did this happiness have to go to Charlie, who hadn’t done anything?

“This castle was built by Be, Zeke, and Dad together. We didn’t let Grandpa help. We finished it ourselves, then took a picture together to show Mom, okay?”
So, he coaxed Isabe.
Isabe thought for a moment, nodded, and talked with Charlie, “Grandpa, can you watch us build the castle from the side?”
“Sure.” Charlie nodded, tears of excitement streaming down his face.
“Of course.”
“Dad, let’s keep building the castle.” Isabe said with a grin.
“Okay.” Heriberto waved at Ezekiel, “Zeke,e here.”
Ezekiel immediately let go of Charlie’s hand and ran back.
The father and his two sons kept building the unfinished castle together.
Charlie just watched quietly from the side and actually felt like this was an incredibly happy thing.
