CHAPTER 397: 217 THE MADAM HAS ENCOUNTERED TROUBLE.
He was somewhat tired, having spent the night before last drinking with Ji Wu, and then, before the alcohol had worn off, he went to capture Charlotte Miller, bringing her to the wrecked warehouse, indulging in revelry until he fell into a drowsy sleep.
When he fell asleep, Charlotte had escaped. After he slept for more than a while, finding the fragrance beside him fading, he woke immediately to find himself locked inside a car. At that moment, he imagined Charlotte fleeing in panic.
Daniel Parker brought a spare car key and opened the car door. He began his day at work and in the evening received a message from Axel Lee saying he needed him to testify about Charlotte Miller’s timeline. They caught Ava Walker, who implicated Kinsley Lee. Everything happened too fast, so fast it was hard to react.
But he was Atlas Hallow; swiftly, he managed to put together a thread leading him to realize there must be something linking all these people together.
Kinsley Lee, in truth, didn’t like Ava Walker as much as she seemed to in the Hallow Family, it was merely for appearance’s sake.
So just what was it, that required them to kill Hailey Hill and frame Charlotte Miller for it?
Kinsley Lee looked at Atlas Hallow, her heart skipped a beat.
She had returned to the country alone to deal with this affair, but it had only happened yesterday, less than a dozen hours had passed, and Atlas Hallow had the housekeeper find her during this time, had something gone wrong?
She should not have underestimated Atlas Hallow.
All she wanted was to kill Hailey Hill because Hailey threatened to go to Atlas Hallow about the recording device if she didn’t receive enough money. At the time, she recorded it just in case. The recording was something she and Ava Walker collaborated on and handed to Charlotte Miller, so they would die worse than Hailey Hill.
Hailey Hill demanded with more ruthlessness than Ava Walker; she wanted eight hundred million and gave only ten days to get it.
She literally had no way out; she couldn’t gather eight hundred million all at once, especially with it being such a significant sum; even disposing of her property would take some time, but with Hailey Hill pushing relentlessly, she could only resolve to murder.
One million could buy a life, but Ava Walker insisted that Charlotte Miller should be dealt with too; otherwise, there would be many troubles in the future.
Eventually, they divided the work; she dealt with Hailey Hill, leaving the rest to Ava Walker. Could Ava Walker have messed something up?
But Ava Walker said it had been handled perfectly.
Kinsley Lee feigned calmness, saying, "Atlas, quickly tell me what’s happened, my beauty sleep wasn’t good, and I could age several years all at once." She yawned as she spoke, her gaze landing on Atlas Hallow’s face.
"Does Aunt know Hailey Hill?" Atlas Hallow asked softly.
When the words left Atlas Hallow’s mouth, Kinsley Lee’s face turned deathly pale.
Could it be that Atlas Hallow had already found out?
She could only give a dry laugh and say, "What? Wasn’t she your ex-girlfriend?" After saying that, she realized her words were terribly inappropriate.
Because Atlas Hallow’s gaze made her feel extremely uneasy.
"She’s dead." After Atlas Hallow finished speaking, Kinsley Lee’s eyes flickered, not daring to meet Atlas Hallow’s gaze.
"What’s the matter exactly? If you know, brother, just say it, or if mom knows something, please say it already." Amir Hallow immediately realized that what Atlas Hallow said must be related to his mother.
But Amir couldn’t imagine that his mother had actually hired someone to commit murder.
He thought maybe Atlas Hallow was just asking his mother about some inside information her circle was aware of, since the so-called high society is not very large, and maybe his mother knew something.
Amir Hallow said that, and Atlas Hallow didn’t beat around the bush.
"Someone said Aunt did it; I find it hard to believe, so I called Amir back. I’ll let Amir handle this matter." Atlas Hallow directly handed the hot potato to Amir Hallow.
"You must be joking; how could my mom possibly..." Amir Hallow broke into a cold sweat. He knew Atlas Hallow wouldn’t joke about such matters casually, but it was too unbelievable. Why would his mother kill Atlas Hallow’s ex-girlfriend?
"I didn’t; I don’t understand what you’re talking about." Kinsley Lee would never admit to this, not when those who acted had already fled the city and wouldn’t be caught.
"Aunt, Ava Walker has already gone to the police station to confess, are you going to wait for her to implicate you?" Atlas Hallow’s thin lips curled into a subtle, intriguing smile as he watched Kinsley Lee’s poor performance.
"She confessed? That lunatic, she agreed there’d be nothing more for me after I took care of Hailey Hill, and now she goes and confesses?" Kinsley Lee blurted out amidst her panic, then sat down heavily on the sofa, staring blankly like a wooden doll.
"Mom, did you really do it? Are you crazy? Why are you collaborating with someone like Ava Walker?" Amir Hallow’s face looked even graver than Kinsley Lee’s, he could hardly believe what he was hearing.
What reason did his mother have to kill someone?
This is no joke; it’s a serious criminal case worthy of at least a twenty-year sentence. Now his mother is already fifty, would she even live to come out?
Moreover, she had always lived a privileged and happy life; she might not endure even a day in a place like that.
Atlas Hallow looked at Amir Hallow and said softly, "Amir, I called you back as soon as I heard this news. It’s better for you to handle it. But there must be a reason, no matter how trivial, for the murder. It would benefit the defense team in court."
No matter how stupid she is, Kinsley Lee wouldn’t disclose the reason.
At most, Atlas Hallow is watching from the sidelines; if he knew Charlotte Miller had gotten that recording pen from her, Atlas Hallow probably wouldn’t bother with the legal route.
It seems Ava Walker had the same idea and didn’t dare confess the existence of the recording pen either.
"I don’t know anything; Amir, I don’t want to go to jail! Think of a way, find someone to replace me, I know it’s possible." Kinsley Lee began to tremble, seemingly realizing the severity of the situation.
In a moment of misjudgment, she should have killed Ava Walker too and thrown her into the sea to feed the sharks.
How could she have cooperated with someone as vicious as Ava Walker?
"Amir, if you need my help, say the word, and as for involving Charlotte Miller—there’s no point, really. Even if she has the child for me, I’d establish a charity fund in the child’s name. After all, the Hallow Family will have to give some back to society, so it won’t affect your shares in the Hallow Corporation." Atlas Hallow subtly diffused the tension.
"Framing my sister-in-law? Brother, are you saying my mom and Ava Walker killed someone and framed my sister-in-law?" These revelations were beyond astonishing, as if bolt after bolt of lightning struck Amir Hallow.
"More or less." Atlas Hallow’s gaze was indifferent as he gave a final glance and said, "It’s best not to find a scapegoat for this; it could lead to big problems."
"If it were Charlotte Miller, would you let her go to jail? It’s easy to speak without bearing the pain yourself." Kinsley Lee broke down, crying and screaming, charging towards Atlas Hallow.
She had endured all these years in the Hallow family, and in that moment, it all burst forth like a torrent.
"Of course not, because if she wanted someone dead, I’d take care of it personally and leave no evidence. Rest assured on that, Aunt." Atlas Hallow’s voice was chilling, making even the first beams of morning sunlight lose their warmth.
In front of Amir Hallow, he had already explained everything. Even though his cousin liked to play and didn’t do serious work, he was sensible enough. Since the one killed was Hailey Hill, he didn’t have much of a problem; using the Hallow Corporation’s legal team for defense was no issue.
But why kill Hailey Hill?
This answer would likely surface soon. He just needed to wait patiently for a few more days.
In the blink of an eye, daylight broke...
Atlas Hallow returned to his bedroom, having not been there for ages, took a shower, and changed his clothes to go to the police station and fetch Charlotte Miller.
The wound on his abdomen still ached, bruising deeply, but if Oliver Baird dared try anything again today, he wouldn’t be lenient.
After showering and changing shirts, as he fastened the last button, his phone rang. He picked it up and saw it was Daniel Parker calling.
"President Hallow, Ava Walker has confessed, and madam had an accident yesterday midnight and was rushed to the hospital." Over the phone, Daniel Parker concisely laid out the situation, but the short statement almost made Atlas Hallow’s heart stop.
"What happened to her?" Atlas Hallow’s voice was intensely anxious, as if he wished he could jump through the waves and ask Daniel in person.
In the mirror, the reflection revealed a man appearing anxious and heartbroken, a sight to evoke sympathy...
