Broken Oath: I Left, He Regretted
Chapter 22: Delivering Herself to His Bed
CHAPTER 22: CHAPTER 22: DELIVERING HERSELF TO HIS BED
In the evening, I arranged to meet Jenna and told her about the matter.
She was just as puzzled as I was.
Then she said to me, "That’s not difficult. I’ll hire a private detective to investigate. If Timothy truly has psychological issues, the divorce will be much easier. If he married you while hiding his illness, that’s deception!"
I frowned and said, "Don’t forget, I also have psychological issues now and am seeing a therapist."
"How can that be the same? You’re this way because of him! Anyway, leave this matter to me!"
Jenna said angrily, "That damn Timothy has been making things difficult for our kindergarten because of his daughter. He even threatened my dad, saying he’ll withdraw Xavier Group’s annual investment in us. I’m just worried about not having enough leverage against him. Once I get something on him, let’s see how arrogant he can be!"
After finishing dinner with Jenna, I returned home, but Timothy still hadn’t come back.
I overheard Serena talking to him on the phone in the living room, gently reminding him, "Don’t worry. No matter how bad things are, remember to eat."
I didn’t hear what was said on the other end, but Serena smiled sweetly and said, "Okay, I’ll put Doris to sleep first and won’t wait for you."
I found it quite interesting. Previously, Timothy often went on business trips and didn’t come home at night.
But ever since Doris and Serena moved in, he hasn’t stayed out even once.
So him not coming home tonight, does it have something to do with the psychologist appointment in the afternoon?
It wasn’t until I went into my room and turned on my phone that I learned the real reason Timothy hadn’t come home yet.
It turns out that a problem occurred at The Xavier Group’s construction site; the foreman ran off with several million, and the workers haven’t been paid for six months.
Today, a worker couldn’t stand it any longer when he couldn’t get his wages and impulsively jumped to his death from the highest point of the construction site. The incident suddenly exploded, causing a huge social uproar.
All fingers were pointing at The Xavier Group, no wonder Serena said what she did earlier.
This situation is indeed quite terrible.
For the whole six months, Timothy, as the boss, didn’t notice anything amiss at the construction site.
It seems his energy has been wholly devoted to romance with Serena.
...
The next day, as soon as I started work, Victoria assigned me a task.
She instructed me to go to The Xavier Group to cover the suicide incident of the construction worker.
"Hurry up and go. We need to get first-hand information quickly. Remember, you must get the president to talk."
Victoria, pressed for time, quickly assigned the task and rushed off to a meeting.
I didn’t even have time to decline.
Getting Timothy to talk?
Now, with so many people criticizing The Xavier Group, me going to knock on their door, it’s unlikely he would talk!
But time is pressing and the task is heavy.
With no other option, I carried the equipment myself, prepared to conduct the interview, and went to The Xavier Group.
As soon as I entered, I was stopped by the receptionist.
"Are you a reporter? Sorry, our President Xavier isn’t seeing anyone now and is not accepting any interviews."
After she spoke, I glanced outside at the cluster of reporters just like me.
At that moment, Timothy’s assistant happened to walk in from outside.
I immediately called out to him, "Jack Sullivan!"
"Ms....." Realizing I was secretly married to Timothy, he quickly corrected himself, "Miss Ellison, what brings you here?"
I straightforwardly said, "I’m here for an interview."
Jack looked troubled and said, "Please, spare President Xavier. I’ve just dealt with a crowd of journalists outside, and President Xavier really can’t accept any interviews now. Don’t make it difficult for me, alright?"
On my way here, I received information from a colleague about the victim’s family situation.
Penniless! He had been working on the construction site for six months, all for a monthly salary of four thousand yuan. Yet the foreman withheld the pay for half a year, and those wages never came.
The family had no money to buy food, and the children couldn’t afford school fees, forcing the worker to make such a choice, ending his life at just forty.
But what about Timothy?
The vegetables he eats are shipped from abroad on the same day, the clothes he buys for his lover are from top international luxury brands, his daughter needs two dedicated maids even just attending kindergarten.
And now, when such a thing happened, he’s hiding. Why?
I coldly said, "Do I have to announce my relationship with Timothy and Serena, the three of us, here? If I do, not only will your President Xavier become social news, but also entertainment news. Jack Sullivan, think it over!"
Jack dared not refuse my request for an interview, especially with all the reporters outside.
If I expose my relationship with Timothy and also Serena’s with Timothy, Xavier Group’s reputation could be utterly ruined.
Finally, he nodded and said, "Alright, come with me."
He brought me to the top floor to the president’s office and told me, "Madam, please wait here for a moment. I’ll inform the president first."
I couldn’t wait for him to tell Timothy first.
If Timothy knew I was coming for an interview, would he cooperate willingly?
"No need. He’s not doing anything scandalous in the office. I can just go in directly."
After saying this, I quickly walked toward his office, with Jack behind me unable to stop me.
However, as soon as I pushed the door open, I froze.
In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Serena was hugging Timothy’s waist from behind, resting her face against his back, intimately.
My cold sneer shocked them, and they immediately released each other.
Timothy’s dark, cold eyes stared straight at me.
I indeed underestimated Timothy’s ability to handle pressure.
At such a time, I thought he should be frantic, but he still found time to flirt with Serena.
Seeing the situation, Jack hurriedly apologized to Timothy, "Sorry, President Xavier, I couldn’t stop the madam."
"Get out."
Timothy spoke this to both me and Jack, telling us to leave together.
But I didn’t leave, and Jack couldn’t drag me out.
With Timothy’s nod, Jack left first.
The office now had only the three of us left.
I set up the interview equipment, not wanting to waste words with him, and said directly, "President Xavier, is it convenient for you to accept my interview now? First question, ..."
Timothy interrupted me, his cold voice tinged with disappointment, "Zoe Ellison, even at this moment, you’re here to add insult to injury?"
"I’m just doing what a journalist should do."
I showed my press ID and said expressionlessly, "Please cooperate with my work, President Xavier."
Before Timothy could speak, Serena, in shock, asked, "Miss Ellison, how can you do this? Timothy is already feeling awful, please, I beg you, spare him!"
"Awful?"
I let out a cold laugh, looking sharply at her, "He’s feeling awful yet has the time and mood to play with women? The ones who are genuinely feeling awful now are those laborers who have worked hard carrying bricks for six months without getting paid!"
Serena bit her lip in grievance, "You misunderstood. I was just comforting Timothy."
I sneered, "How? By rushing to the office, undressing, and offering yourself in bed for comfort?"
Timothy coldly said, "You’re not just sharp-tongued, but disgusting."
I nodded and said, "Yes, I’m disgusting. It’s me who enjoys luxury, feasts on blood-soaked bread, and drives the workers to the point of jumping off a building to commit suicide. I’m the beast, I’m not fit to be human! President Xavier, are you ready to be interviewed now?"
Timothy quietly looked at me for a while, his slender fingers rubbing his brow, deeply furrowed.
"I don’t have time now; I need to head to the construction site. If you really want to interview, come along."
This time, I must get real material for the interview, to give the public an explanation.
He won’t shake me off.
So I grabbed my equipment and left with him.
Maybe he was too dumbfounded to react: seeing me carry too much stuff, he even asked Jack to help me carry it.
But I hadn’t expected that he would take Serena along to the construction site.
I truly didn’t understand his thought process — visiting the site was simply for inspection or to appease the workers, bringing his mistress along?
Does Timothy think he isn’t being criticized enough right now?
But soon, there won’t be much connection between me and The Xavier Group anymore; whatever they wish to do is up to them!
Thus, the three of us got into a car heading to the construction site.
Unlike my expectations, those workers not only didn’t cause a commotion but showed respect for Timothy.
Timothy looked at me and said, "Aren’t you here to interview? Go ahead."
