'What just happened?'

I stared blankly at the absurd scene before me.

Why did the Demon King attack Aria? Why did Aria get attacked by the very being she summoned? Is he just planning to attack everything in sight? Numerous questions arose and vanished repeatedly.

In the distance, the shockwave engulfed the entire building and slammed into it. Watching the shockwave thrash around like a living serpent from just a single strike brought back memories of the past.

Not particularly pleasant memories.

"Who do you think you’re giving orders to? Isn’t that right?"

Amidst the chaos, the Demon King, who had been watching the bizarre scene without making a sound, turned his head.

"...Are you talking to me?"

I asked without thinking. It seemed like he was talking to me, but I couldn’t believe it. The situation was so utterly ridiculous that it was a relief I hadn’t fallen into a state of cognitive dissonance.

"Then who else would be here besides you and me? Surely, you’re not making me out to be a fool who talks to the air."

His voice was steady, almost devoid of inflection, and his face, apart from the skin color, was that of a strikingly handsome man. His well-toned, muscular body added to the effect.

No matter how I looked at it, this was definitely the Demon King I knew, but why was he speaking to me so amicably? I couldn’t understand it at all.@@novelbin@@

'Could it be that he doesn’t recognize me?'

If this Demon King was summoned from a time before our battle, it would explain his behavior. After all, when we first met, the Demon King had a similar temperament—a calm demeanor that made it seem like he could be reasoned with, not at all like the ruthless king of demons.
