Nobel University.

It wasn’t the best, but it was a university that, if mentioned, would generally elicit a response like, “Not bad, you’re going to a decent place.” It had been in a nearly century-long rivalry with Pia & Gorani University, with tensions flaring during school competitions, sometimes even leading to bloodshed, or so the stories went.

However, despite this reputation, the balance of power had recently shifted heavily in favor of Pia & Gorani University.

This change was largely due to a scandal involving the president of Nobel University and a corruption case related to tteokbokki. The news reported it while attempting to protect the identity of the university, using the term “No-Mo University” instead.

This led to a flood of mocking variations:

* No-Mo University, Department of Porn Mosaic Removal

* No-Mo University, Department of One-Sided Hatred of Yoo Jae-Seok

* No-Mo University, Department of Blind Worship of No Hong-Chul

And so on. After the news broke, students from Pia & Gorani University and other communities created numerous fictitious departments like these. During competitions, these taunts echoed, leaving Nobel University students powerless to respond.

Anyway, I was reminded of this long-ago story by a message from Kang Yuna.

Kang Yuna: “What are you going to do about university? You’ve been expelled for a long time now, but do you plan to go back?”

Me: “What lousy timing.”

Kang Yuna: “Leaving? What are you going to tell Mom and Dad?”

Me: “That’s for you to figure out.”
