Chapter 88 - Sunflower Queen! Samadhi True Fire Engulfs the Field!
The group’s hearts tightened as they saw countless ghosts roaming in the mist. The scene inside was drenched in blood.
One Para-Hunter in particular seemed to be still alive, clinging to his last breath, his eyes filled with despair as he looked at them. Before Su Lingling and the others could react, a ghost walked up beside him and cruelly devoured him.
The swarm had scented living prey. They began surging toward Bai Wan and his team.
A terrifying tide of ghosts charged!
Whoosh!
Su Lingling hurriedly lit the lantern. Its glow spread, driving back the nearby ghosts. But with the endless stream advancing, despair still pressed heavily on them.
Did the entire Para-Hunter headquarters of the future fall here?
She even saw the mentor who had once led her when she first joined the organization.
Bai Wan, too, gazed at the tide of ghosts, thoughtful.
Wooo…
The terrible horde pressed closer. Su Lingling and the rest were out of options.
Bai Wan considered his last trump cards. These weren’t the fodder ghosts they’d faced before. Many of these entities had once been top officials of the headquarters, now fallen and transformed. Naturally, they were far from ordinary.
His eyes drifted to his left hand. Against these ghosts, and against the still-unseen Mountain God… only his final card might be enough.
The Blood Husk Buddha Idol.
He had enough Paranormal Coins now. He could attempt an invocation.
But just then, an image flared in his mind—a towering mountain wreathed in raging flames.
The mirage of Flame Mountain!
In the next instant, Bai Wan’s consciousness stood before it. From the flames, a blazing shadow emerged. Information streamed into his mind:
[Twin-Headed Sunflower Queen – Samadhi True Fire Form]
Details: The twin-headed sunflower has absorbed the power of Samadhi True Fire, evolving into the Twin-Headed Queen. She now wields the strength of divine flame.
Abilities:
Samadhi Magma: Fires wide-area, homing magma blasts infused with Samadhi True Fire. Extremely lethal to ghosts.
Supreme Furnace: Consumes a large amount of sunshine to upgrade magma ammo into throwable miniature furnaces. Power doubles, range increases fivefold.
Bai Wan’s eyes lit up.
At last—his queen had returned! She had mastered Samadhi True Fire and ascended as the Sunflower Queen. He had been right: tossing her into Flame Mountain for training was far better than fumbling on his own. Stronger than the original Sunflower Queen by far!
At the same time, he plotted their escape. His mind went back to the toilet in the old hut.
“Comrades, retreat! I know a place to hide!” he shouted.
Morale was low after seeing headquarters annihilated in the future, and with the ghost tide rushing them, everyone felt doomed.
Hearing Bai Wan’s words, Jiang Zai and the others blinked in shock. “There’s really somewhere to hide?”
They couldn’t imagine where—at this point, wasn’t it hopeless?
“Follow me!” Bai Wan turned and ran.
Su Lingling and the rest hesitated, then followed. They didn’t know what method he had in mind, but staying here meant certain death. There was no choice but to gamble.
“No good—the ghosts are too fast!” Jiang Zai’s face paled. Their inhuman speed far outstripped the group’s, they would surely be overtaken.
Lin Baoyu clenched his teeth. He raised his twin pistols toward the advancing horde. “You guys go ahead. I’ll hold them off.”
As a ranged fighter, he was best suited for rear guard. But that meant he wouldn’t make it out.
Fear of death chilled his heart, but he didn’t flinch. He had joined headquarters for one reason: to kill the paranormals. If he feared death, he wouldn’t have joined. From the moment he became a Para-Hunter, he had already accepted his end.
Jiang Zai and Su Lingling saw him step forward, and their expressions twisted with conflict. After a pause, they gritted their teeth and stood beside him.
“You can’t stop them alone. Don’t play the hero,” Jiang Zai muttered, pulling out a black staff.
Su Lingling glanced back at Bai Wan. “Go. If luck’s on your side, maybe you’ll live.”
Bai Wan froze at their words. In that instant, he understood why the Doctor had sent these three to support him—they were reliable.
But instead of fleeing, Bai Wan stepped past them, smiling. “Me? Leave? You’re forgetting something… I’m the leader of this mission!”
As his voice fell, a blazing figure appeared.
A twin-headed sunflower, crowned in flames, her whole body burning scarlet-red fire—the Sunflower Queen.
Hisss! The air grew searing hot.
Jiang Zai and the others felt the heat claw at them. Even standing nearby, it was as if their bodies were about to combust and incinerate.
Then they saw it—fire gathered madly around the queen. Lava-like projectiles arced through the air toward the ghost tide.
Whoosh!
The air warped from the heat.
BOOM!
One blast struck its target, immolating a ghost instantly. It collapsed, charred black, instantly frozen in place and shut down.
Wherever the flames touched, they seized and spread, crawling over bodies that could never shake them off. One after another, the ghosts fell, consumed and locked into a death state, condemned to remain frozen for years.
Bai Wan, holding nothing back, fed the Medium Sunshine Mushroom to his queen. She erupted with the Supreme Furnace!
Shhhhk!
A furnace sigil appeared above her. The lava bombardment transformed into a rain of miniature alchemy furnaces.
Sizzle!!
The Sunflower Queen’s gaze was firm. She had always been just a sunflower, providing sunlight to others. She had always relied on others to protect her.
But now, she had power of her own. It was her turn to protect them. She had to become stronger—stronger still!
The twin-headed queen lifted her blazing, crimson leaves and launched furnace bombs skyward.
As they descended, each small furnace expanded on impact.
BOOM!!! A shadow of a furnace flashed and vanished in an instant, followed by a terrifying explosion.
The explosions were twice as strong, five times the range of her magma shots. Each one swallowed clusters of ghosts whole. Blast after blast painted the battlefield in a roaring sea of fire.
BOOM! BOOM!!
Flames chained together, waves of inferno forcing the tide back.
The legendary divine fire had descended upon the world!
Jiang Zai and the others gaped, slack-jawed.
Su Lingling, stunned, stared at the ferocious sunflower queen.
This… is it really a sunflower? And that fire—what is that?!
Her shock deepened. Ghosts engulfed in those flames collapsed into dead states, unable to move. That mysterious fire was holding the swarm at bay.
Such terrifying flames…
Bai Wan pressed the attack, commanding the Sunflower Queen to keep hammering the horde.
But then, he froze, disbelief flashing in his eyes.
The Samadhi flames abruptly parted on their own, splitting to either side. Something was approaching—something the fire itself dared not touch.
The world fell silent. The roar of burning vanished.
And from the fire, a figure emerged—lazy, unhurried.
Bai Wan’s pupils shrank violently. The ghost looked exactly like him.
It was… his future dead self.
