Chapter 46: Grief
CHAPTER 46: GRIEF
Following unintelligible screams from goblins hidden in the bushes out of sight of Ragnar and Noah, the goblin warriors began withdrawing while the goblin archers strode forward and readied their bows and arrows for another volley.
Ragnar frowned as he noted the unexpected coordination among the ugly goblins.
Noah, on the other hand, furrowed his brow and raised his sword, prepared to deflect the incoming arrows.
But Ragnar knew it would be effective.
"Grab a corpse and use it as a shield," Ragnar barked at his friend.
Noah heard his warning and immediately grabbed a corpse.
The goblin archers, unable to hear the warning Ragnar gave, readied their arrows and took aim at the two of them.
"CHEE!"
A scream came from the goblins hidden in the bushes, and the archers released their arrows.
PHEW!
The sound of the arrows darting through the air followed.
Ragnar and Noah lifted the corpses in their grasp and covered the vital parts of their bodies.
PUTCHI!
PUTCHI!
The sound of the arrows stabbing the corpses could be heard, some of the arrows even managing to stab through the flesh shield.
Fortunately, the corpses were held at a safe distance, and both youths were able to prevent death.
"Charge!"
Ragnar barked and began sprinting toward the goblin archers before they readied another set of arrows.
Both of them moved at insane speed as they gradually closed the distance with the goblin archers.
"CHEE!"
At the same time, the few goblin warriors remaining let out a collective battle cry and charged toward Ragnar and Noah. Their screams and hurried footsteps created chaotic noise.
Ragnar and Noah tossed their corpse shields away once they reached the goblin warriors.
Noah dodged the attack of his opponent, who lost footing upon a failed strike. Using the opportunity, Noah stabbed him in the back and continued forward toward the other goblin warrior approaching.
The two of them fought silently, and in five minutes they took down the few goblin warriors remaining, leaving the archers without protectors.
The archers let out desperate sounds as they readied and released arrows from their bows toward them.
But their attacks were futile at such a close distance.
Noah fell to the ground to evade the arrows and began crawling toward the goblin archers who were just a few meters away.
Noah swung his sword at the legs of the archer in front of him before standing up to block the other one who tried to attack with his wooden bow.
Ragnar, on the other hand, deflected the arrows with his blade and slashed the necks of the goblin archers.
"CHEE!"
The archers had low physique, hence they lacked the physical strength to rival the two of them.
The last four goblin archers let out frustrated screams and tried escaping into the woods, but Ragnar and Noah chased after them, quickly catching up and slaughtering them.

|| You’ve leveled up ||
|| Level 7 ----- Level 8 ||
Ragnar slayed two of them and his level rose to level 8. Noah slayed the last one, and he experienced the same thrilling sensation.
Nevertheless, after slaying the goblins on sight, the two of them remained cautious and scanned their surrounding for the goblin hidden within them, the same one who gave commands to the goblin archers and goblin warriors.
Their eyes were furrowed and focused, but they spotted nothing ordinary, as the hidden goblins were good at staying out of sight.
WHOSH!
Just as the two of them were about to let their guards down, two fireballs shot out of the bush and attacked them.
"Spell casters!"
Ragnar muttered as he quickly took steps to the side to avoid the fireballs.
Noah also moved quickly and avoided the fireball aimed at him.
"The spell casters senior brother Milan warned about, they are in the bushes," Noah spoke.
At the mention of the name of their deceased friend, both of them felt a pang in their hearts, but they bore it—they had to slay the spell casters.
"The fireball came from over there," Ragnar pointed at the bush ahead of them.
Noah turned to Ragnar and nodded.
Both of them quickly picked up one corpse of goblin archer each and sprinted toward the bush.
At that moment, three more fireballs shot at them, but this time it came from the side.
Luckily, both of them moved in time and blocked the fireballs with their corpse shields.
"They are smart," Ragnar muttered to himself.
"Take care of those ones, I’ll take care of our three new friends," he said to Noah.
Noah nodded and continued sprinting toward the bush ahead. As he drew closer, he noticed movement from the goblins hidden within it.
Noah pushed himself and accelerated forward, quickly crossing the bush.
Immediately, he was faced with two goblin spell casters—the spell casters wore robes made of leaves and held crooked sticks.
Noah recalled the tales old man James spoke. Magic users used crooked sticks known as wands which assisted them in spell casting.
"CHEE! CHEE!"
The two goblin spell casters began speaking in a strange pattern while taking several steps back and waving their magic wands at Noah.
Noah scoffed, he tossed the corpse in his hand at them and sprinted forward, reaching them the moment the corpse collided with their bodies and sent them to the ground.
"CHEEEEEEE!"
The two goblins let out desperate cries as though pleading for help, but it was futile.
Noah stabbed one of them and then stomped his foot on the head of the other one who let out a groan.
"You bastards!" Noah cursed and kept stomping the head of the goblin spell caster who had already gone dizzy from the first stomp.
"You killed senior brother Milan!"
"Why did you kill him?"
"Why!"
"You ugly bastards must pay."
Even after the usual thrilling he felt after killing his opponent washed over his body, Noah did not stop his attacks. The head of the goblin had already turned into meat paste.
Noah stared at his handiwork with a furious expression before it dampened with sadness. He sheathed his sword and walked out of the bush.
He met Ragnar, who had also finished off his opponent.
Both of them exchanged a look that revealed their sadness. Their eyes turned to the corpse of Milan, and they strolled towards it.
