bI /bslipped into the private room, made a few curt apologies to the crowd, handed them off to Mch, and left–couldn’t stand another second in that ce.

My mind was elsewhere, reying images of Leslie and Adlerughing together in the

restaurant.

There was a weight in my chest like a stone.

I’d sunk so low–groveling day and night for days, only to be met with her merciless rejections.

Now she had time to dine with Adler?

So it wasn’t that she was busy. She simply didn’t want to see me.

Lance had probably seen it all from the start. “From the moment you said you’d be her kept man, you should have been prepared for this,” he said.

“What else am I supposed to do? Got a better way to get close to her?” I shot back.

Lance clicked his tongue and fell silent.

I grit my teeth and walked over, cutting into their conversation. “What’s so funny? Having a good time?”

Adler nced at Leslie and I followed his look.

She sipped her coffee with slow, deliberate grace; her fingers were jade–smooth, beautiful enough to be a work of art.

My chest tightened, but my eyes couldn’t leave her.

Adler smiled softly. “Leslie just told a joke. Kirby, want to hear it too?”

Leslie looked up at him but stayed silent.

My chest felt even tighter. My teeth hurt from clenching.

Of course–she’d tell Adler a joke and give him that warmth; for me there was only a cold face.

“Want to?” bI /bscoffed and, not waiting for permission, nted myself beside Leslie to assert my im.

My long leg brushed hers. Her skirt rode just above the knee, revealing a smooth, slender calf that made my vision blur.

My heart kicked. I deliberately leaned in, grazing her–electricity shot through me and my heart nearly burstb. /b

A few secondster she shot me a cold look and instead of pulling away she mmed her heel into my shin.

Pain shot through me and I nearly swore aloud.

That woman was ruthless.

I forced a casual smile. “Actually, dinner with Alpha Adler’s been fun. Next time, remember to invite me.”

Leslie rolled her eyes and turned to Adler. “Adler, I’m full–time for me to head home.”

Adler hesitated, then said, “Leslie, I wanted to ask a favor. I’ll be heading back to the Eastern Continent to handle pack matters in a few days. Little Eren will be here alone–could you look after him for a few days? I’ve got a nanny and a bodyguard, but he doesn’t listen…”

I snorted. “If you’re worried, just take him with you. Don’t keep bothering others.”

Eren that kid–small but troublesome, always getting under my skin.

Leslie answered coolly, “No problem. I’ll have someone pick him up and he can stay at my ce for ia /iwhile.”

My face tightened and heat red in my chest, but I didn’t argue further.

Adler thanked her and no one addressed my annoyance.

When she rose, I followed without thinking.

I climbed into her car and, shameless, took the passenger seat,

She didn’t start the engine right away. Staring at the dim streetlight, she asked, “You don’t have a car of your own?”

“I’ve been drinking–I can’t drive. My driver’s been drinking too,” I lied, letting my mint pheromone leak a little, trying to sound obliging.

“You can change into wolf form and run home,” she said coldly.
