Astrid, on video, shouted back: “It’s your fault! She drank the wine that woman gave you was drugged! She only had one bottle and she’s out cold; she used to be able to drink anyone under the table!”

Her tone was exaggerated, but I had no time to argue. My brow darkened like a storm as I stared coldly at the toppled bottle. “Drugged?”

I leaned in and sniffed; aside from the wine’s scent I couldn’t detect anything unusual.

Astrid kept yelling: “Tonight was wild — a few women nearly came over naked to find you; Leslie greeted them herself! That wine was meant for you — do you think someone slipped something into it?”

Her words were a spark, and my mint pheromone chilled; the urge to kill nearly overwhelmed ollime. /li/ol

“Make her vomit, get a doctor here! And don’t take advantage of her – I’m watching you!” Astrid warned, but before she finished I swept my gaze to the tablet and cut the call without hesitation.

Lance sneered, “That woman talks a lot.”

I came back to myself and sat beside Leslie, one arm around her shoulders, the other slipping under her legs as I lifted her easily into my arms.

Drunk, she smelled of rich wine. Unaware, she fell asleep and settled into afortable position against me, her arms soft around my neck as she kept sleeping.

My whole body stiffened; my eyes went dark as I watched her, so soft it seemed she would melt against me.

I had never held her like this. We had missed too much in marriage, and after the contract broke I had no right.

She was always iso /icold toward me, but she was actually so soft, so small — fragile in a way that made me afraid to be rough.

My Adam’s apple bobbed as her breath brushed my skin, sending my thoughts wandering.

Lance suddenly grew excited. “Now’s the perfect chance; mark her!”

My pulse jumped. Lance was right: once I marked her, I could legitimately drive off every male wolf around her and make her mine alone.

At the thought my breathing sped, a prickling at my gum. Two fangs pushed through.

I looked at her long neck, the wless, porcin skin without a blemish.

If I just bit her lightly there, I couldplete my mark…

Lance was already howling with excitement, urging me to take full possession.

Yes

possess her.

My heart hammered. My fangs inched toward her throat…

Suddenly a powerful pressure pulsed from Leslie’s body, a massive psychic force crashing into me.

“Get away… you mutt from the Crimson Moon Pack!”

A roar erupted at my ear.

It was Asphodel, Leslie’s wolf.

The spirit projection of this fierce she–wolf had burst from Leslie and stared at me viciously.

I had never expected Leslie’s wolf to be so strong able to leave her host and attack me directly.

Usually arrogant Lance whimpered, looking diminished.

The psychic force had actually injured him.

“Asphodel…” my voice was a little rough. “I was only trying to help her.”

“Hmph!”

The she–wolf clearly didn’t buy it; my earlier movements had put her on guard.

I had to exin. “Believe me, I could destroy the whole world, but I would never hurt her…”

Asphodel withdrew her spiritual pressure, but her wolf eyes stayed fixed on me; distrustced her tone. “Don’t do anything unnecessary. I’ll be watching you.”

With that she returned to Leslie’s body.
