Burn those who burned me!
Hunted 19
As he pulled out my chair so that I could sit down, a smile formed on my face. Tilting his head with a mischievous smile, Aaron began to speak.
i“/iiIf /iyou don’t mind imy /iiasking/i, iwhy /iithe /iismile/ii?/i”
i“/iI’m ijust /ia little isurprised /iiyou /iiremembered /iime/ii./i”
Aaron gave me a sweet yet empathetic look.
i“/iiLet’s /iijust /iisay /iiyou /imade ia /ibit iof /iian impression /iithe /iifirst /iitime/ii. /iI’m isorry /iiI /iididn’t /iiget /ito see iyou /iiagain /iiafter /iyour iparents /iipassed/i. iPaul /iiand /iiGrace /iimet /iia /ilot ito /ime.i” /i
I could feel my eyes betraying me as they began to water up. I hadn’t expected him to mention my parents, though I understood why. I was just about to excuse myself when he ced a handkerchief into my hand. After dabbing my eyes, I looked up to see a soft and empathetic pair of green eyes staring at me. I wasn’t sure why, but it felt as if he was staring directly into my soul. Wanting to break the connection, I looked around again for De. Aaron must’ve noticed.
i“/iiAre /iiyou /iilooking /iifor /iisomeone/ii?/ii” /i
Something about his tone seemed devious.
i“/iiYes/i, imy /iiassistant /iiDe/i. iShe’s /iinever /iite/ii, /iiI /iihope /iinothing /iihas /iihappened /iito /iiher/i. iI /iishould /iicall-/ii” /i
Before I could finish my sentence, Aaron interjected.
“That iwon’t /iibe /iinecessary/ii. /iiI /iitold /iiVincent /iito /iinform iher /iishe /iicould stay /iihome /ifor ithe /iievening/i.”
Why would he do that? Sensing my questioning look, he continued.
“iI /iwanted to be able ito /iihave /iidinner/ii, /iijust /iithe /iitwo /iof ius/i. iIf /iithat /iiwas /iialright /iiwith /iiyou/i.”
So, we were alone!!!
i“/iiY/i–Yes, of course,i” /i
After the waiters took our orders, we started having light conversation, catching up on everything that has been going on the past five years.
i“/iiI /imet to itell /iyou, congrattions on ibing /iPresident of Prd.”
iSmiling/i. i“/iThank iyou/i. Though I idon’t /iiknow /iif I deserve it.”
Aaron’s face scrunched but then quickly rxed. As he cut into his steak, he began to speak.
“iWhy /iido /iyou feel ithat /iiway/i?”
“Welli, /iiI’ve /ibeen gone for over ifive /iyears, and ieven /iithough /iiI /imade isure /iito /iigo /iito /iischool /ifor engineering and science, iI /ihaven’t had a chance to put it to good use.
Aaron looked at me thoughtfully and then smiled. fnd2ba Find the newest release on f?ndnovel/fnd2ba
“Very true, that being said, iover /iithese /iipast /iiseveral /iiyears /iiyou’ve /iistayed /iiin /iitouched /iiwith /iieverything /iiregarding /iPrd including stocks and isales/i.”
His tone was so matter of fact like he knew for sure what I had been doing.
“How idid /iyou know ithat/i?”
His eyes had a mischievous spark to them as a smile crept onto his lips.
i“/iiI /ifigured ias /iimuch /iiwhen /iiyou /imade ithat /iibusiness /iiproposal /iiregarding /ia imerging /iibetween /iiMGT /iiand /iiLockwood. /iiIt /ivery idetailed /iand ivery /iiimpressive/i.”
I could feel myself blushing, ugh! Why was he having this effect on me!
“iThank /iyou. iIt /iiis /itrue, I made isure /ito istay /iicurrent /iion /iiprogression /iof iPrd /iiand /iimy /iiuncle /iiwas /iinice /iienough /iito /ikeep me iinformed /ion ieverything/i.”
“Welli, /iiI’d say /iithat sounds /iilike /iisomeone /iiwho /iihas /iiearned /iiher /iiposition/i.i” /i
His words were so resolute, like he’d known I needed to hear that.
“iThough /iI must admit, I’m ia /iilittle /iisurprised /iiyou’re /iiback /iiin /iiConvington /iiand /iino longer /iiMrs. /iiLockwood/ii./ii” /i
There it was. The real reason I wanted this meeting.
“iThat’s /iiactually /iiwhat /iiI /iiwanted /iito /iispeak /iiwith /iiyou /iiabout/i. iI’m /iisure /iiby /iinow /iiyou’re aware /iI’m ino /iilonger /iiwith /iiThomas /iiLockwood/i. iMy /iireasons /iiare /iipersonal/ii, /iiI /iihope /iiyou /iican /iiunderstand /iithat/i. iHowever/ii, regarding /iimy /iiproposal/ii, /ii1 /iiput /iithat /iitogether /iion /iithe /iistrength /iiI /iiwas /iihelping /iimy /iihusband/ii, /iinow /iithat /iiwe’re /iino /ilonger married iI’d /ilike ifor /iyou to iwithdraw/ii./ii” /i
Aaron sat in silence for a few moments, his expression was hard to read. Finally, he smiled and began to speak.
“It’s a ivery /igood proposal Ms. iPrice/i. I didn’t take iyou /ias a person that would make a business decision based on
emotions.i” /i
Rabena’s brows squinched, this wasn’t just about so petty divorce, he had no idea what those people did to
her.
i“/iiMr. /iMichaels, I can understand your resolve and again, thank you for thepliment regarding that proposal. iThat /ibeing said, iThomas /iiLockwood /idoesn’t deserve to iexpand /ihis business off my name.”
A smile curled on Aaron’s lipsb; /bhe could see the firs in her eyes as she spoke. This was getting interesting.
i“/iLet’s say iI /iitake /iiyou /iup on this offeri. /iiExactly /iiwhat /iwould ibe /iin this for mei?/ii” /i
That question caught Rabena off guard. She hadn’t taken into consideration he would want something in return. Was her proposal that good?
“U–iUh/ii, /iI’m sorry Mr. Michaels, iI /ihadn’t itaken /ithat into consideration. iI /iididn’t /iithink /imy proposal iwas /iithat /iilucrative /iito /iiyou/ii./i”
Aaron pulled his seat so that he could be closer to Rabena’s face.
“iYou /iisell /iiyourself /itoo short Ms. iPrice/ii, /iithat /iproposal icould /iihave /iiskyrocketed /iour irevenue/ii. /iIt would ihave /iigiven /iime /iia /iiclear /iopening to setup ihotels /iand resorts in ithe /iiNorthern /iContinenti. /iiI’d /iisay /iithat’s /iidefinitely /iworth a value.i” /i
Rabena sat in shock, had she really created something that lucrative. Taking a sip of wine, she let out a light sigh.
“Wowi, /iI’m ireally /iittered /iMr. iMichaels/ii. /iiSo/i, iwhat /iiwould /iiyou /iilike /iiin /iiexchange /ifor icanceling /iiwith /iLockwoodi?/ii” /i
Aaron took a sip of his wine, that mischievous grin still on his face.
“iHow /iiabout /iiyour /iihand /iiin /iimarriage/ii?/ii” /i
