CHAPTER 14: CHAPTER 14 HOSPITAL, UNEXPECTEDLY MEETING GRANDMA CHEN

Gu Anxi took her suitcase to an old-fashioned apartment, an eighty-square-meter unit with two bedrooms and one living room.

After settling in, she went to the hospital to see her father.

Yunxi Hospital, intensive care unit.

Gu Anxi had just stepped inside when she froze.

A woman in her sixties was attending to her father, gently wiping his face and hands.

"Grandma Chen?" Gu Anxi recovered her composure and asked softly.

Grandma Chen, whose real name was Chen Rong, had previously taken care of her at the Gu residence. Gu Anxi hadn’t seen her since the fall of the Gu family. She hadn’t expected to meet her here.

Grandma Chen turned. Seeing Gu Anxi was unexpected, and her eyes quickly welled with tears. "Anxi, you’re here."

She hadn’t seen much of the girl since Gu Anxi returned; she’d heard Gu Anxi was living with Wang Keru.

Gu Anxi nodded. "Yes, Grandma Chen, I’m back."

Grandma Chen noted her unusual expression. "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing much, just here to see Dad." Gu Anxi managed a faint smile.

Grandma Chen patted the back of her hand. "Anxi, don’t be too hard on your mother. After all..."

She sighed. "At least she’s the one who raised you."

Gu Anxi found Grandma Chen’s words somewhat odd, but she didn’t dwell on them.

In the afternoon, the doctor performed a routine examination on Gu Yuntian. The attending physician held up the films, his head tilted back as he studied them for a long moment. "Mr. Gu’s condition... is not looking good!"

He pointed to a spot on the film. "Look here, the nerves are almost completely necrotic..."

Gu Anxi’s lips pressed tightly together.

The attending physician thought for a moment. "Professor Bo happens to be in; I’ll ask him to come and take a look."

"Professor Bo?" Gu Anxi murmured. She recalled a certain doctor of impeccable character.

While she was pondering, Dr. Li had already called on the internal line. "Professor Bo, there’s a patient here I’d like you to see. The young family member has some questions."

Bo Xichen arrived quickly, with Feng Mian accompanying him.

When Feng Mian saw it was Gu Anxi, he waved. "Hey, kiddo!"

Dr. Li was quite surprised. "Dr. Bo, you know each other?"

Bo Xichen’s gaze rested on Gu Anxi’s face.

Feng Mian acted as the spokesperson: "We’ve met twice."

Dr. Li handed the films to Bo Xichen. "Dr. Bo, please take a look."

He held Bo Xichen in particular esteem. In the medical field, Bo Xichen, though young, already held a preeminent status. Moreover, he was the Director of Yunxi Hospital. How could one not look up to him?
