CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: GU ANXI, WHY DON’T YOU ANSWER THE PHONE?

Gu Anxi was stiff, her voice tight. "What did you do while I was asleep?"

Bo Xichen’s warm gaze rested silently on her face. "I checked on your health."

Given his dignified air and status, no one would ever suspect him of anything improper. Gu Anxi looked down at the small bottle in her palm and whispered, "Thanks, Dr. Bo."

She rose to leave.

Bo Xichen stopped her.

He came to her side and said quietly, "I haven’t eaten yet. Join me?"

Gu Anxi’s fingers clenched slightly.

Just then, Feng Mian appeared out of nowhere, vacuum cleaner in hand, and said cheerfully as he worked, "The professor went to a lot of trouble. You should at least try it."

Gu Anxi looked at Bo Xichen. His aloof and noble demeanor hardly seemed compatible with cooking.

Still, she stayed for the meal. The food tasted—Ah, textbook-perfect.

After finishing her meal, she felt too awkward to leave immediately and offered to help clean up.

Bo Xichen said quietly, "Feng Mian will handle it. Also, your hand..." He paused before adding, "Your hand isn’t suited for strenuous activity."

Gu Anxi looked down and only then realized her fingers had been rebandaged. Her lips tightened slightly as she murmured her thanks.

"Come on, let’s go check on Mr. Gu." He stood up to lead her out of the room.

Feng Mian was rather flustered. Why does Dr. Bo seem to be off on a date, leaving me here to deal with the dishes?

*

Grandma Chen was in the hospital room. She had somehow procured knitting needles and yarn and was working on a sweater.

Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a peaceful and warm glow over the room.

Gu Anxi pushed open the door and went in. Grandma Chen glanced up, then removed her reading glasses. "Anxi is back!"

Gu Anxi hummed in acknowledgment and sat down beside Grandma Chen. "How are you?"

"Pretty good. Dr. Bo even said he’d personally give Mr. Gu a full-body check-up." Grandma Chen’s gaze settled on the person who had just entered, her smile broadening. Elderly people always have a particular fondness for good-looking young men.

Bo Xichen was examining Gu Yuntian and taking notes.

Grandma Chen turned back. "Anxi, your mother came by. She was looking for you, but your phone was off."

Gu Anxi took out her phone and saw that it was indeed off.

She couldn’t help but look up at Bo Xichen.

His icy blue eyes showed a faint ripple, but he said nothing.

So, Gu Anxi knew he had turned off her phone while she was asleep.

"The battery died," she whispered, lying to Grandma Chen. "I’ll charge it later."

Grandma Chen nodded, patting the back of her hand. "Don’t stay here with me all the time. Go home and get some proper rest."

"I don’t have classes for the next two days," Gu Anxi said softly.

"You have your own things to do too," Grandma Chen said with a kind smile. "Young people should make more friends, shouldn’t they?"

With that, she looked at Bo Xichen, who hadn’t left yet. "Isn’t that right, Dr. Bo?"

"Grandma is right," Bo Xichen replied with a warm smile.

"See? Even Dr. Bo agrees," Grandma Chen said, seeming to be in particularly high spirits today.

Gu Anxi’s heart softened. For a moment, she really wanted to hug Grandma Chen, but with Dr. Bo there, she felt a little embarrassed.

Later, Bo Xichen had to leave for other matters. After Grandma Chen fell asleep, Gu Anxi turned on her phone.

She put it on silent. Sure enough, the moment it turned on, she was bombarded with over twenty missed calls and countless WeChat messages, all from Wang Keru.

[Gu Anxi, why aren’t you answering your phone?]

[Call me back immediately!]

[Gu Anxi, where are you?]
