Campus Ace Girl
Chapter 411 - 412: Not convinced? Just endure it
CHAPTER 411: CHAPTER 412: NOT CONVINCED? JUST ENDURE IT
Zhou Yunchen just chuckled and stood up. "I’m not joking!"
Shen Congwen took a deep breath. "My sister is only 20. I will never let her marry a man who is almost 30."
"Oh?" Zhou Yunchen merely laughed. "Bo Xichen and Gu Anxi also have quite an age difference, yet I think they are a great fit."
Shen Congwen stared at him as if he were a monster.
After a while, he whispered, "Does it not hurt?"
Zhou Yunchen lowered his gaze, lit a cigarette, and took a puff before chuckling. "If it’s not yours, feeling sad is useless, isn’t it?"
He suddenly looked at Shen Congwen. "Or are you the one who is frustrated with unrequited love, which is why you know the sour taste of it?"
"I haven’t liked anyone," Shen Congwen said, his voice becoming stiff. Then he asked Zhou Yunchen to leave. "It’s getting late, Zhou Yunchen!"
At that moment, someone knocked at the door. Zhou Yunchen laughed. "The delivery should be here."
He went to open the door. Shen Congwen closed his eyes, trying to endure it.
Zhou Yunchen came back pushing a trolley; not only did it have noodles but also a bottle of red wine and two side dishes.
"Let’s eat together. I know you didn’t have enough dinner, and you don’t eat spicy food." Zhou Yunchen chuckled, then opened the red wine and poured a glass for each of them.
Pairing noodles with red wine was unusual but felt right with Zhou Yunchen.
With a cigarette between his lips, he set the small dining table and called for Shen Congwen, "Are you coming or not?"
Shen Congwen didn’t want to yield, but the aroma of the food was hard to resist, and he was indeed a bit hungry.
So he sat down. Zhou Yunchen pushed the wine towards him. "Have a glass. This is from ’82; it tastes good."
Shen Congwen glanced at him, fearing he would call him womanish again, and finished the wine in one gulp.
Zhou Yunchen laughed. "Are you drinking it like cooking wine?"
Shen Congwen didn’t answer. He just concentrated on eating his noodles, finishing quite fast.
Zhou Yunchen was in no hurry. He took his time finishing his cigarette before starting his meal.
After they had finished eating, they shared a bottle of wine, which wasn’t enough, so he ordered two more bottles...
In the end, Shen Congwen got a little drunk. Zhou Yunchen held his liquor very well, remaining sober.
Shen Congwen fell asleep on the sofa. Zhou Yunchen smoked two more cigarettes while sitting on the sofa before fetching a blanket to cover Shen Congwen with. He stood there, giving a faint smile. "Still so naïve."
Shaking his head, he went back to his own room.
When Shen Congwen woke up early in the morning, it was already 8 a.m.
He sat up, looking at the blanket on him, his mind replaying last night’s events.
He had drunk a lot.
What about Zhou Yunchen?
He raised his hand to check his watch. Eight o’clock already. He must have returned to Beicheng.
Shen Congwen got up and dialed his secretary. "Book me the earliest flight. I’m heading back to Beicheng immediately."
The secretary’s voice was sweet. "Mr. Shen, Mr. Zhou has already arranged for you to fly back with him on his private jet."
Shen Congwen almost dropped his phone, his brow furrowing. "Really?"
The secretary chuckled.
Shen Congwen hung up the phone, washed his face, and wiped the water droplets from it.
The man in the mirror looked refreshed. Indeed, red wine aids sleep.
He gathered his luggage and walked out. As he opened the door, he saw Zhou Yunchen leaning casually against the opposite wall, smoking. Seeing him come out, Zhou Yunchen smiled. "Let’s go. The private jet is taking off in an hour."
Shen Congwen was speechless.
That night was rough for Jiang Bin and Jiang Chaoge. Jiang Bin’s major plan had failed. It was a complete failure.
Of course, he realized he couldn’t blame it all on Jiang Chaoge. He had underestimated the Bo family’s child.
She indeed had some skills. No wonder the Bo family valued her so much.
Jiang Bin sat there with a gloomy look on his face.
Jiang Chaoge wanted to make a last-ditch effort; she was somewhat defiant.
Because she was born into a collateral line of the family, she had always been dismissed by others. So she had always worked harder than anyone else, and she had accomplished a lot. She had always been at the top of her class since childhood, had won numerous accolades, had a Ph.D. in Chemistry, and was even a Ph.D. advisor at a medical school...
She was now worthy of any high-born young man. She had liked Bo Xichen for many years but had never confessed her feelings due to the difference in their statuses, not until she felt she was worthy of him.
However, she had never expected that Gu Anxi would appear.
Jiang Chaoge wanted to say something but was stopped by Jiang Bin. "Chaoge, don’t be defiant about this. Gu Anxi got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry at 16. For her to make such a move, she must have planned her contingencies well."
The implication was that Jiang Chaoge couldn’t compete in this regard!
However, Jiang Bin did not completely dismiss her. His tone was flat. "We should still focus on finding a way to mass-produce the ecological liquid. The person in charge of WK Company has reportedly arrived in Beicheng again. We’ll head back to Beicheng first thing tomorrow morning."
Jiang Chaoge was taken aback. "What about here?"
Jiang Bin replied, sounding irritated, "What else could happen?"
With the Family Head enraged, Jiang Chaoge didn’t dare to say anything else. After Jiang Bin left, she quietly walked to the edge of Bi Shui Yun Tian Lake. Gazing at the shimmering, deep green water, she clenched her fist.
She was aware of her uncle’s virus experiment in C City. As a doctor, she should have tried to dissuade or stop him. However, she was a daughter of the Jiang family, and she also needed to prove her strength—
What the Bo family couldn’t do, she could.
The next day, Jiang Bin and Jiang Chaoge also returned to Beicheng. They unexpectedly ran into Zhou Yunchen and Shen Congwen at the airport...
Jiang Bin’s expression soured. Why is Gu Yuanshan’s confidant always hanging out with that Zhou fellow? He immediately called to complain.
After listening to him, Gu Yuanshan chuckled. "I sent Congwen there to penetrate the enemy’s inner circle! Jiang, my friend, you can’t blame Congwen for this."
Jiang Bin was somewhat skeptical but thought it made sense. Nevertheless, he warned, "Yuanshan, I must remind you that Zhou Yunchen is very cunning. You shouldn’t risk a double loss."
Gu Yuanshan responded with a laugh. "Heavy words, my friend. Our Congwen isn’t some naive fool." After exchanging a few more pleasantries, he hung up, his mood rather heavy.
On the other end, after Jiang Bin hung up and got into the car, he received another phone call—
After hearing a few words, his expression darkened.
Jiang Chaoge asked with concern, "Uncle, what’s wrong?"
Jiang Bin spoke in a low voice, "The higher-ups instructed us to cancel the operation in C City for now."
Jiang Chaoge pressed further, "Uncle, who are the higher-ups...?"
Jiang Bin responded coldly, "Don’t ask questions you shouldn’t ask."
He paused and then continued, "Upon returning to Beicheng, you better prepare for the hospital matters."
Jiang Chaoge nodded.
Jiang Bin squinted. "I refuse to believe that the Jiang family can’t beat the Bo family. Chaoge, your uncle has high expectations of you."
However, he couldn’t understand why the superiors had once again canceled this operation. Such a good opportunity!
