CHAPTER 416: CHAPTER 417: WHERE AM I A CHILD?
Bo Xichen was still looking at her. After a moment, a small smile touched his lips.
He reached out and gently touched her small head. "You really are a vengeful little thing."
"She tried to make a move on my man!" Little An bristled.
Uncle Bo’s eyes were clear, an indulgent smile on his lips; he wasn’t blaming her at all.
Little An was in high spirits. She got up to eat and then went with her uncle to the hospital to visit her father.
At Yunxi Hospital, many nurses were excitedly discussing the WK Group’s upcoming partnership with Jiang’s Hospital. They spoke of it in such reverent tones that Little An herself almost believed it.
She didn’t say anything, just sat by the bed peeling an apple for her father.
Gu Yuntian felt much better. He sat up, looking at his youngest daughter with a loving gaze, his heart swelling with pride.
After a moment, he asked, "Xichen is the one in charge here, isn’t he?"
"Mhm," Little An grimaced playfully. "And he’s incredibly wealthy. The betrothal gift was in the tens of billions! Dad, you’re basically winning just by lying here."
Gu Yuntian was amused and glanced at Wang Keru.
Wang Keru always felt a sense of unease. Despite her meticulous care, she constantly felt somewhat uncomfortable.
Gu Yuntian actually knew about that incident of hers, but he hadn’t pressed for details.
If a married couple wanted to stay together, some things were best left unexamined. He knew her personality and temperament well; she had always enjoyed being assertive and had likely resorted to that desperate measure back then, alone and with no one to turn to for help.
Gu Yuntian took Wang Keru’s hand and smiled. "Yes, when I woke up, our family was still intact."
Little An chuckled. She cut the apple into three slices, one for each of them.
She nibbled on her slice, then said quite smugly, "Dad, I brought a dowry too. You definitely shouldn’t feel like our family is inferior to theirs."
Gu Yuntian just smiled in response, then added, "So, I don’t need to work anymore? I’ll have to rely on you, Little An."
Little An grinned. "Of course! Just look at how well I’m taking care of Mom."
Wang Keru had been dressing quite plainly lately, without any unnecessary embellishments. The only exception was a 58-carat pigeon-blood ruby on her finger—understated luxury.
Gu Yuntian also smiled. "She is doing well. She seems even better than before."
Since his recovery, they had been sleeping in separate rooms. This was partly because his body hadn’t fully healed, and partly because after not being together for several years, a certain unfamiliarity had developed between them.
How could someone as sharp as Little An not notice?
So, she stretched lazily. "Uncle Bo has an important surgery at the hospital today. I might as well sleep here too. Mom, you and Dad can share a room. I’ll sleep in the room next door. Let’s leave the downstairs for Grandma Chen."
As she spoke, she winked meaningfully at Grandma Chen.
Grandma Chen caught on immediately. "I’m old and sleep soundly. Nothing can wake me."
Little An also stretched lazily. "Me too. Once I’m asleep, you can’t wake me either."
An indescribable expression appeared on the faces of the long-separated couple...
「Later that evening」
Little An went to have dinner with Bo Xichen. He had a surgery to perform after the meal, one that would likely take about six or seven hours.
Little An said obediently, "Call me when you’re finished. I’ll drive you back."
Bo Xichen thought for a moment. It would be three in the morning by then, and he didn’t want her to go through the trouble. So, he said he would just stay at the hospital too.
Little An obediently hummed in agreement.
Seeing she had something on her mind, he smiled. "Still worried about your parents’ situation? Don’t worry. Your father is a very mature man; he’ll handle it well."
Little An obediently hummed again, leaning into her uncle’s embrace, looking utterly like his sweet, cherished girl.
"Uncle, we’re always going to be together, right?" she whispered.
Bo Xichen smiled. "Of course."
She snuggled for a while longer, then took the initiative to clear the dishes so he could rest for a moment before his surgery.
She glanced up inadvertently and saw him sitting on the sofa, his gaze fixed deeply on her.
Little An murmured, "Uncle, you have to go into surgery soon."
"What are you thinking about?" he chuckled, then called her over and pulled her into his embrace.
He didn’t do anything else, just simply held her.
His sweet, cherished girl snuggled obediently against him, feeling his warmth through his shirt. After a moment, she whispered, "What do you think Mom and Dad are doing right now?"
He tapped her lightly. "Little girl, don’t meddle in adult affairs."
She looked up, a peculiar glint in her eyes. "How am I still a child!"
