CHAPTER 48: CHAPTER 48: WANT TO MAKE THE LITTLE KID HAPPIER

Yunxi Hospital.

Gu Anxi was sitting in the ward, messaging on her phone, when the door opened.

It was Bo Xichen, dressed in a white coat, exuding an air of gentle refinement.

Gu Anxi put her phone away and looked at him. "Doctor Bo."

Bo Xichen’s gaze rested on her face for about two seconds before he proceeded to examine Gu Yuntian.

Routine check-ups could have been handled by Dr. Li, but Bo Xichen still made it a point to come twice a day.

And every time, Gu Anxi was present.

All the doctors and nurses at Yunxi Hospital knew full well: Bo Xichen treated this particular patient’s family member differently.

After examining Gu Yuntian, Bo Xichen took Gu Anxi out for a meal.

During their meals as a trio, Feng Mian was always the odd one out. Being quite self-aware, he would eat quickly, wash the dishes, and then head back to his room to play games.

Bo Xichen checked Gu Anxi’s hand, confirming it was fine. Its recovery was much faster than he had imagined; it was astonishing.

He had an experiment to conduct that evening. Looking at Gu Anxi, he asked, "Would you like to be my assistant?"

Gu Anxi looked up at him.

Bo Xichen smiled. "Reading medical books all day is like armchair theorizing; at most, you’ll only learn basic healthcare."

"So what?" Gu Anxi looked at him.

Without another word, Bo Xichen led her directly to the laboratory.

His experiment... was incredibly realistic.

Gu Anxi was taken aback by the hyper-realistic bones and internal organs—the delicate blood vessels, hairs, and blood—everything looked almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

Halfway through Bo Xichen’s ’experiment,’ she fled the room.

When Bo Xichen emerged from the lab, Gu Anxi was still in the restroom. He removed his mask and, while washing his hands, smiled faintly. "It’s all medical-grade material."

After washing his hands, he moved a bit closer to her, his ice-blue eyes locking onto hers. "I thought you were fearless."

Gu Anxi was pressed against the wall, no more than ten centimeters separating them.

He was so close she could smell the faint scent of blood on him.

Bo Xichen possessed an exceptionally refined and aloof bearing. Even dressed in green surgical scrubs and carrying that faint scent of blood, not a trace of harshness emanated from him.

Gu Anxi, still against the wall, stared at him.

"Scared?" he suddenly leaned in, his face close to her delicate neck.

That scorching breath seemed to press through every pore, bringing Gu Anxi’s entire being back to life.

She trembled, biting her lip. "No!"

Bo Xichen chuckled softly.

He straightened up, gently pulling off his surgical scrubs, and headed towards the adjoining bathroom.

Gu Anxi, surprisingly, found herself too slow-witted to leave.

Bo Xichen suddenly paused, a gentle smile gracing his lips. "Today’s experiment was about how to restore necrotic central nervous system tissue."

Gu Anxi stiffened, whirling around to look at Bo Xichen.

Her eyes reflected the depth of her endurance.

Bo Xichen spoke gently, "It’s a completely new research topic. Sometimes, even after ten or even decades of effort, success isn’t guaranteed."

He told her about his research, but also cautioned her that it might not succeed.

He was afraid of her being disappointed.

Yet, for Gu Anxi, that glimmer of hope was her everything.

She looked at Bo Xichen and asked softly, "Why?"

Bo Xichen leaned against the wall and gestured for her to come closer.

Gu Anxi walked over.

He stroked her hair and smiled faintly. "Probably because I want to make the little one a bit happier."

Perhaps, he mused, to help the little one find her way back home.
