CHAPTER 32: THE LAST SUPPER

The whole day, management’s suggestion of leaving behind baby Jacob deeply bothered Naomi.

Naomi was watching baby Jacob all the time, afraid that when she closed her eyes for a few minutes, her son would be gone.

Alpha Maxwell noticed her restlessness. "Relax, sweetie. Why are you looking so nervous?" he asked.

Naomi bit her lower lip in agitation. "I don’t know. I just couldn’t help it. When management suggested that baby Jacob remain here, I felt anxious about it."

Alpha Maxwell released a deep sigh. "Don’t worry, Zero already told us that management respects our decision not to leave our son behind. Your fears are groundless. So please relax."

"OK," Naomi finally said, trying to suppress the growing restlessness in her heart.

Alpha Maxwell keeps pacing around the room, already thinking about his reunion with his family and the important decision he has to make and that is breaking the marriage alliance with his fiancée. Both families are already looking forward to the union of convenience. He has to untangle himself from the situation carefully and wisely. But he realizes that no matter how careful he is, Deborah’s feelings will be hurt in the process, knowing how much she worships him.

But he was gone for more than a year. Maybe Deborah has already moved on and found another guy to marry?

That is also another possibility.

He hoped that was the case when he finally returned home so he no longer had to worry about how to cancel their engagement.

He glanced at Naomi. She was trying to make herself busy, double checking the boxes containing their things.

The morning passed quickly.

After lunch, Zero engaged them in a lively chat.

"Guys, I can’t believe our association with each other will finally stop tomorrow. It’s nice messing around with you guys. I will miss you two. I hope you will stay strong for each other come what may," Zero sincerely said.

"Thanks, Zero," Naomi replied gloomily.

"Ow, why do you sound so sad, dear? Aren’t you excited about tomorrow’s journey to freedom? You can finally go home to see your family. I’m sure it will be a happy reunion," Zero continued cheerily.

"I hope so," Naomi responded with a shrug. Zero doesn’t know how strict her father is. She would surely suffer severe verbal lashings from him the moment she brought a son with her.

Alpha Maxwell interjected, "Zero, I want to ask you. Is management really serious about taking us to the address of the property I gave you?"

"Yes," Zero gave a short reply.

"Good." Alpha Maxwell was satisfied with his answer. "Wait, how about our phones? We needed those devices to contact our families so they would be informed in advance we would be coming home."

"Don’t worry, you will get your phone on the way to your property," Zero answered.

"Excellent," Alpha Maxwell said, "and don’t forget to charge the phone first so that we can send messages to our family right away," he added.

"Yes, boss!" Zero replied. "Anything else before I go? Um, before I forget, how about your last supper here? What food do you want to eat so I can inform the cook about it in advance?"

Naomi thought for a moment then said, "Velvet cake and non-alcoholic wine. As for the dish, anything with chicken and beef on it will be much appreciated. If possible, we want to have an early dinner at 5:00. That’s all."

"OK, noted. I will make sure all your requests are granted today," Zero said. "Chat with you later, guys. Bye for now." Zero faded into silence.

Alpha Maxwell sat on the edge of the bed, brooding.

Naomi sat beside him. "What are you thinking?" she asked.

He looked at her and said, "I’m rehearsing my lines. I want my family to believe everything I tell them."

"But you don’t have to invent new alibis because in the past we already wrote in our letter to our family that we met someone special in our life and eloped with that person, and we shall return one day and introduce that person to them. That’s all they need to know because that is our alibi," Naomi said, frowning.

Alpha Maxwell shrugged. "I’m planning to tell my family the truth that we got kidnapped and forced to fall in love with each other and had a son while in captivity," he said, his tone serious.

Naomi bit her lower lip. "I see. Forced to fall in love, eh..." There was a hint of sadness in her tone.

"But we gradually fell in love with each other, thoroughly and sincerely, right?" Alpha Maxwell quickly corrects his mistake to avoid offending Naomi’s sensitive heart.

"That’s right!" Naomi smiled. She hugged him tightly, never wanting to be separated from him even for a few seconds. With him by her side, everything will work out fine.

The couple went to bed and cuddled, listening to the wild beating of their hearts.

"I love you, sweetie," Alpha Maxwell whispered.

"I love you more," Naomi replied with a smile, loving how sincere he sounds when expressing his love and devotion to her.

After a few minutes of cuddling, the couple parted when baby Jacob started crying.

"Feeding time." Naomi got up from the bed, scooped her son gently into her arms and breastfed him.

With nothing to do, Alpha Maxwell grabbed the remote control and played mellow music on TV.

One hour later, baby Jacob fell asleep.

Alpha Maxwell muted the TV so his son could have uninterrupted sleep.

Naomi put baby Jacob on the bed. Alpha Maxwell settled on the bed beside his sleeping son, kissing his chubby cheeks before closing his eyes to sleep.

Naomi grabbed the remote control, muted the TV and watched cooking videos to entertain herself and take her mind off their impending release tomorrow.

The afternoon passed like a blur in her eyes.

At 4:00, Alpha Maxwell woke up and went to the bathroom to do his thing. Baby Jacob was still sleeping soundly on the bed.

Naomi put baby Jacob in his crib.

At 5:30, the mouthwatering last supper arrived. The delicious aroma of freshly cooked dishes filled the room.

Alpha Maxwell placed the tray on the table. Naomi arranged the dishes and utensils on the table.

The sight of mouthwatering savory beef with broccoli, creamy lemon chicken and rice made the couple hungry. A pitcher of cold refreshing orange juice completed their sumptuous meal.

"I love red velvet cake. My favorite dessert!" Naomi gushed in delight.

"Alright, let’s eat," Alpha Maxwell said, lowering himself in the chair.

Naomi filled her plate with the delicious dish and began eating.

The couple ate with a good appetite.

A bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon arrived ten minutes later.

The couple enjoy listening to soft music while sipping their wine.

"So, tell me. Is our stay here bad or good?" Naomi asked, looking deeply into his eyes.

Alpha Maxwell took a deep breath. "Um, you see, that’s the problem. I thought it was really bad at first. Being kidnapped, imprisoned in a windowless room without a way out and forced to get intimate with your co-prisoner is like a movie scene out of a slasher movie. The good thing is, there is no killing or gore involved. We developed feelings for each other. You and baby Jacob are the only good things that came out of this whole kidnapping nightmare."

Naomi smiled. "Me too. It was really bad at first. I’m scared of you. I thought you would kill me. But good thing you fell in love with me. I’m just glad they didn’t subject us to any type of torture or anything unpleasant..." She paused for a moment catching her breath.

Then she continued..." All I can say is that what we experienced here was kind of bizarre. They really kidnapped us so we could fall in love with each other? Is that the only purpose they have in mind? We are just an experiment created by two people who are sick in the head," she muses.

Alpha Maxwell nodded his head. "Yeah, right? We are just an experiment specimen for them."

"I still can’t figure out what they will get from this?" she added in a perplexed tone.

"Me too. The extravagant wedding, and coming home tomorrow is like a scripted drama, unfolding before our very eyes. We are the main characters playing our own roles. Strange experiment indeed!" Alpha Maxwell blurted with a sigh.

Silence engulfed the couple for a few seconds.

"Sweetie, we will have a second wedding soon. This time around our families are invited," Alpha Maxwell said in a serious tone.

"Great, I can’t wait to marry you for real!" Naomi said in elation. She planted a kiss on his cheeks, letting him know she was happy with his plans for their future.

The couple kept the conversation going until they finished drinking the whole bottle of wine.

Naomi’s speech was becoming slurred. "Whoa, we have emptied the bottle of wine. I’m sleepy. I’m going to sleep," she said and climbed onto the bed.

"Good night, sweetie, sleep well." Alpha Maxwell cleaned the table and disposed of the trash in the garbage bin.

He was about to go to the bathroom to brush his teeth but decided to just climb to the bed because his eyelids were dropping fast. He felt so sleepy. He lay down beside Naomi. He kissed her lips, draped the blanket over their bodies and finally closed his eyes to sleep.

Silence engulfed the room.

The couple drifted into a deep slumber but the light in the room was still on.

At 1:00 AM, baby Jacob woke up. He was energetically making baby sounds and trying to get his parents’ attention.

One hour later, he began to cry, but his parents were in a deep sleep unable to hear his cry.

The door opened. The female staff entered the room, lifted baby Jacob into her arms and left the room.

A few minutes later, several men entered the room and placed the couple on two separate stretchers. The men carefully pushed the stretchers out of the room, ensuring the couple remained undisturbed. The staff worked swiftly and silently, their movements coordinated. Once outside, the couple was placed into a waiting vehicle, which then drove off into the night, leaving the facility behind.
