Captive By Desire, A Love We Can't Deny
Chapter 54: I Can’t Be Stopped!
CHAPTER 54: I CAN’T BE STOPPED!
Grandma unlocked her phone and said, "Give me your marriage certificate. Let’s check the public record if it’s still there," she said, quickly opening the website of the Marriage Record Bureau.
Alpha Maxwell showed the crumpled marriage certificate to Grandma.
After a few minutes of searching, Grandma smiled in relief. "Thank goodness, the record of your marriage to Naomi is still in the database," she said cheerfully.
"Awesome!" Alpha Maxwell beams happily. "Grams, can we go now to Naomi’s house and present this marriage certificate to her father?" he asked.
"Sure, my boy. Give me a second. I will go to my room first. I need a proper change of attire," Grandma replied.
Alpha Maxwell responded, "OK. Take your time, Grams."
Grandma left the room in a hurry.
Alpha Maxwell sat on the bed, browsing his new phone. After setting everything up, he entered the Windowless Lover chatroom, eager to say thanks to Zero for sending the marriage certificate to him on time — just when he needed it the most.
He typed and hit send, waiting for Zero to come online.
A few minutes later, Zero finally entered the chat.
Alpha Maxwell: Zero thanks for the marriage certificate you sent via drone. I was able to use it. Thanks for your help.
Zero: I’m glad to be of service to you Alpha. So, did Naomi contact you already?
Alpha Maxwell: No, not yet. She didn’t reply to my messages in our private chat. This is unusual of her.
Zero: I also flew a drone over her house but I didn’t see her.
Alpha Maxwell: Grandma and I will go to Naomi’s house today and show her parents the marriage certificate. I will take her away from her family.
Zero: Are you serious?
Alpha Maxwell: Yes of course. I’ve never been so sure of my life choices until now. I will definitely go to her house and claim her as my wife so our little family will be complete again.
Zero: That would be great. As soon as you and Naomi are back together, the facility will release baby Jacob back to you guys.
Alpha Maxwell: Great! I’ll update you once I get hold of Naomi.
Zero: Good luck. May you and Naomi be reunited today. I’m rooting for you guys, may you finally achieve your happily ever after.
Alpha Maxwell: Thanks. I’ll go now. Chat with you later.
Zero: OK. Good luck!
Alpha Maxwell left the chat and put the phone on the table. He grabbed a decent looking pair of pants and a long sleeve black polo shirt from the closet, wanting to look presentable in the eyes of Naomi’s family.
After he finished self grooming and felt satisfied with his appearance in the mirror, he was ready to go.
The door opened and Grandma entered the room. She asked, "Are you ready? Shall we go now?"
Alpha Maxwell smiled. "I’m ready," he responded cheerily, putting his phone and the brown envelope in the pocket of his leather jacket.
"Alright, let’s go," Grandma said.
The duo left the room, went downstairs only to be apprehended by the older couple in the living room.
Alpha Nelson eyed the well-dressed duo. "Where are you going, guys?"
"We are heading to Naomi’s house to present the marriage certificate to her parents Dad," Alpha Maxwell replied smugly.
Alpha Nelson’s eyes darkened. "Really? And after you get the girl, are you going to bring her home?"
"Of course, I will bring her here. Where should I bring my wife?" Alpha Maxwell replied.
Alpha Nelson shook his head. "No you can’t bring that woman here. This is my house. She is not welcome here. The only woman I will accept into this house is Deborah. She is the only one I acknowledge as your wife. Since you have always disobeyed me, you are on your own starting today. You can take that woman anywhere just not here. You can always come back here because you are my son, but that woman can’t enter my house. I won’t allow it!"
Alpha Maxwell released a deep sigh. "Copy Dad," he said in a dispirited tone.
Suddenly Becca hurriedly came down the stairs, shouting, "Guys, I can’t believe this! Deborah is amazing! She was able to erase brother Maxwell’s marriage record from the database of the Marriage Record Bureau! She successfully made it!"
"As expected." Grandma sighed, quickly unlocked her phone and checked the Marriage Records Bureau website to find out if Becca was telling the truth or just bluffing.
Visibly shaken, Alpha Maxwell’s face darkened instantly. He looked at his sister with anger and disbelief flashing in his eyes. "W-what did you say?" He asked, growling indignantly.
Becca smiled. "Yes, you heard that right, dear brother. You are now single again. Your marriage to Naomi Greene is no longer on record. Check the website if you don’t believe me," she said smugly.
Alpha Maxwell looked at his grandmother with sadness flashing in his eyes.
Grandma was holding her phone in her hand. "Yes, it’s true, my boy. I just checked it a few seconds ago after Becca informed us. Your marriage registration can no longer be found in the database. I’m so sorry," she said despondently.
Alpha Maxwell’s jaw clenched. His hands formed into fists on both sides. In this house, only his grandma supports him. The rest of his family wanted Deborah to be his wife. The truth is, he couldn’t blame them. Before the kidnapping took place, they already expected him and Deborah to tie the knot.
They can’t move on, they are still stuck in the past.
Grandma watched the pain and sorrow flash on her grandson’s face, making her heart ache for him. "My boy, do you still want to go to Naomi’s house? The document you have in your hands has already lost its value. It’s like a fake marriage certificate not acknowledged by the government. Naomi’s parents will only laugh in your face if you still insist that your marriage to her is valid."
Alpha Maxwell winced in pain as grandma’s words sank, intensifying the bleeding in his heart. "It doesn’t matter anymore, Grams. I just want to see Naomi again. Let’s go!" He said in a determined tone.
Alpha Nelson sighed. "So stupid!" He said cursing under his breath, annoyed that his son is so hard-headed and no longer listening to him. Disappointed and annoyed, he looked at his mother. "Mom, why are you still tolerating my son’s stupidity? The reason why he was acting like this was because you kept supporting him. You always stay by his side, supporting him even if it’s wrong. Now you are going to accompany him to the enemy’s territory. It only shows that he will never learn from his mistake if you keep tolerating him!"
Grandma shakes her head. "I stood by his side because no one else would. You all ganged up on him! This is so unfair!" she yelled into her son’s face, ready for a verbal fight.
Alpha Maxwell quickly approached his grandmother and said, "Grams, stop arguing with my father because it’s pointless. He will never listen to us. Just give me the key to your car and I will return it after I see Naomi. It’s obvious that they don’t want you to come with me. They want to rub it on my face that I’m alone on this crusade. It’s okay, you don’t have to come with me. Let’s not add fuel to the fire. Okay?"
Grandma sighed heavily. "Will you be okay alone on your own?" she asked worriedly.
Alpha Maxwell grinned. "Yes, of course, I’m a grown-up man. I can stand on my own," he assured her.
"OK, here’s the key to my car. Good luck my boy." Grandma finally handed her car key to him.
With sadness gripping his heart, Alpha Maxwell glanced at his family one last time before heading to the driveway.
Luna Adela made one last attempt and rushed to her son’s side, grabbing his arms desperately. "Son, why do you still want to go to that woman’s house? You no longer have valid reasons to go there. Your marriage to her is no longer valid. Stop all this madness now! Why can’t you just marry Deborah so all this problem will stop? I’m so sick and tired of it all!" she said. Tears shimmered in her eyes.
Alpha Maxwell took a deep breath. "Mom, I’m sorry about this. I don’t want to hurt your feelings but this is my life we are talking about here. It’s my happiness. I can only be happy with Naomi. The sooner you and father accept the truth — the better for all of us."
He gently removed his mother’s hand and moved forward, heading for the entrance.
Luna Adela broke into sobs, crying for the son who became a stranger after he returned home.
Alpha Nelson rubs his wife’s back gently. "Let him be. We cannot control him anymore. He has a mind of his own. If he returns to us then he is ours, if he no longer returns then we shall set him free. He is old enough to take care of himself."
"But how about Deborah and baby Zed? What will happen to them?" Luna Adela asked.
"Our house will always be open to them. They are part of our family, and they are always welcome here," Alpha Nelson replied gloomily.
They walked to the door and watched Alpha Maxwell drive the car towards the gate.
Alpha Nelson nodded his head at the guard, giving him permission to open the gate.
The guard opened the gate and Alpha Maxwell drove the car out of his father’s property.
Twenty minutes later, Deborah arrived at the mansion with baby Zed, smiling brightly.
