Captive By Desire, A Love We Can't Deny
Chapter 75: Your Wedding Day
CHAPTER 75: YOUR WEDDING DAY
Days pass by...
Saturday finally came, it was Alpha Maxwell and Deborah’s wedding day. The weather was beautiful. The Burke family mansion was alive with a flurry of activities. The backyard of the mansion was transported into a dazzling wonderland, filled with whimsical lighting, fairy lights hanging on the branches of the trees, lanterns and candles in antique holders.
Since it was an evening wedding, the whole place was lit with dazzling lights, illuminating the entire place, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
The guest starts arriving at 6:00 in the evening and socializes with each other in the backyard, serenaded by romantic music.
When the officiating minister finally arrived, Alpha Maxwell joined him at the podium as they waited for the bride to walk down the red carpet aisle.
Alpha Maxwell wore a stoic expression on his face, not happy nor angry either.
When Deborah finally appeared in the garden wearing her favorite wedding gown, adorned with intricate floral embroidery, everyone stared at her in awe because she looked fabulous in her wedding gown. She walked down the aisle, smiling triumphantly because today her dream finally came true.
Fantastic! She finally married the love of her life!
When she looked at her groom and met his gaze, there was softness in his eyes, tears of happiness shimmered in her eyes. Maybe he finally realized just now how beautiful she is in her wedding gown, hoping she can finally win over his heart again.
She walked gracefully towards the podium, eager to start the wedding and finally become Alpha Maxwell’s legal wife. It was a long fought battle—she deserved to enjoy this victory.
She fought hard, made mistakes and foolish decisions such as begging her uncle to erase Naomi and Alpha Maxwell’s wedding records so she can finally marry him. She doesn’t care about the consequences of her actions. The karma that awaits her can go to hell. The most important thing is... today is her wedding day.
When she finally arrived at the podium, the officiating minister started the wedding ceremony which lasted for almost half an hour.
Alpha Maxwell goes through the wedding process the second time around in his life. This time it’s a sad wedding because his heart wants Naomi to be his wife and not the vindictive woman standing beside him. Despite the anger and sadness he felt today, he was determined to stay calm and sober until the wedding celebrations ended. He was doing it for the two families, hoping they would enjoy the wedding at his expense.
The wedding ceremony unfolded like a blur in front of him. He was zoning out the whole time but also acutely aware of everything going around him. He’s acting like a robot but the visitors don’t care, everything looks grand.
After the wedding ceremony ended, a photo shoot with family and friends followed.
Finally the time has come that everyone has been waiting for... food and drinks flow endlessly for everyone to enjoy. The guests were having a blast dancing to the music while holding their wines in their hands.
The newly wed couple danced along with the guests, sporting a happy smile on their faces.
A few minutes later, Alpha Maxwell decided he had enough of dancing. "I’m heading back to our table to give my feet a rest," he said.
"OK, me too," Deborah replied.
The couple went to their table for a few minutes of rest.
"Hubby, thank you so much for giving me such a wonderful time today. This is our dream wedding—it’s finally happening! You have no idea how happy I am. I appreciate your wonderful cooperation," Deborah said thoughtfully, smiling radiantly.
Alpha Maxwell nodded his head. "Don’t worry, I won’t ruin this night because I want you to be happy and I also want our families to be happy. So, enjoy the show," he said, smirking.
Deborah stared at his face, trying to decode the smirk curled up in the corner of his lips. "Are you planning something sinister tonight?" she asked suspiciously.
He looked at her, his eyes gleamed. "Don’t worry, today is your day. I won’t ruin it. Didn’t you see it? I’m cooperating just the way you want me to be. I play my role as a happy groom perfectly well. There is no need for you to be alarmed. Just enjoy the wedding. Everything will be alright," he assured her.
"OK. Good to hear!" Deborah said in a dry tone, hurt that he was just pretending that he looked happy on their wedding day. "Let’s talk to the guests," she said, rising to her feet.
Alpha Maxwell stood up and cooperated with his wife, greeting the guests, chatting with them merrily, and thanking them for attending the wedding.
Indeed, it was a special night for Deborah and for everyone who thought the wedding was magical and perfect.
When Deborah’s conversation with her friends took a long time to finish, Alpha Maxwell got bored and returned to the couple’s table. He starts drinking wine to numb his aching heart.
Grandma Franchia joined him in his solitude, easing into the chair beside him. "How are you doing, my boy?"
Alpha Maxwell smiled. "Barely surviving, Grams. I hate smiling the most, pretending I’m happy but I’m not. I’m tired and want to rest in my room but we both know it’s not proper for the groom to leave the wedding party while the guests are still enjoying the wedding party," he replied gloomily.
"I see... you must be feeling awful right now," Grandma responded with a sigh. "Getting married to the wrong person is indeed sad and tragic," she murmured, looking down at the familiar faces of the guests with boredom in her eyes.
"Tragic indeed," he murmured miserably.
"You want to disappear—?" she suddenly asked.
He looked at her in puzzlement. "Huh? What do you mean, Grams?"
"I mean, disappear for a few minutes, away from the crowd, and see your son baby Jacob in the bungalow house to ease your boredom," Grandma suggested.
Alpha Maxwell smiled broadly. "That would be nice!"
"Alright let’s go!" Grandma stood up and led the way.
Out of the corner of her eyes, Deborah saw Grandma and Alpha Maxwell leaving the garden, heading somewhere. She followed them out of curiosity. She saw them entering the bungalow house, he is probably going there to see his son, she breathed a sigh of relief. For a second, she thought he was going to leave the mansion and escape the wedding party.
She returned to the garden and resumed talking to her friends.
A few minutes into their conversation, one of her friends asked, "Where is your groom?" the petite girl asked.
"He went back to the house, maybe in the bathroom to relieve himself," Deborah replied. "I will go and look for him. Enjoy the food and drinks, girls," she said and left the gathering.
Deborah walked in the direction of the bungalow house and knocked on the door.
The nanny opened the door wide for her to enter.
"Where is my husband?" she asked, entering the house, looking for her groom.
"He had fallen asleep in the guest room, ma’am," the nanny replied, leading her to the guest room.
Annoyed that he fell asleep, Deborah uttered a string of profanities as she entered the guest room.
Sensing impending trouble, the nanny quickly left the room.
Deborah rushed to the bed and roused him out of his sleep. "What are you doing here? Sleeping? How dare you? Leaving me alone there to entertain our guests? Get up!" she said, pulling his arms violently.
Alpha Maxwell groaned and reluctantly opened his eyes. "Leave me alone! I’m tired. I’m going to sleep!" he grumbled.
"No! The guests are still there looking for you. You have to go back there and help me entertain the guests! Get up!" she commanded angrily.
Alpha Maxwell took a deep breath. He realized that going back to sleep would be pointless because she would never stop pestering him. "Fine!"
He stood up and left the room with Deborah.
Outside, Grandma was waiting for them in the living room. "Are you okay guys?" she asked.
Deborah didn’t bother to hide the scowl on her face. She was about to scold the old hag for what she had done, luring her husband away from the wedding party. But she realized that it might only lead to more argument, destroying her good mood, so she faked a smile and said, "We’re fine, Grandma."
Alpha Maxwell met Grandma’s eyes, they nodded at each other in silence.
Deborah forcefully pulled Alpha Maxwell out of the house. She was hell-bent on projecting a happy wedding with her husband in the guests’ eyes. She can’t allow anyone to destroy that image!
The newlywed couple returned to the wedding party and mingled with the guests, wearing a bright smile on their faces.
Luna Adela was worried for a moment when she saw her son disappeared and only saw the bride alone. For a second she thought her son was trying to sabotage the wedding party and left his bride to deal with the guests alone. But she was relieved when she saw them together back at the party.
She was about to talk to her son but Deborah dragged him to chat to her family and they stayed there for the rest of the night, talking and laughing with her family members in high spirits.
At 12:00 in the evening, the wedding party finally ended to Alpha Maxwell’s great relief.
His family surround him, wearing a happy and satisfied smile on their faces.
"Son, I’m grateful you didn’t ruin your wedding. Today is a big success. I’m proud of you. Congratulations on your wedding, son!" Alpha Nelson beams happily.
Luna Adela was glad. "I’m happy that this beautiful wedding is finally over soon. You behaved well, and I’m satisfied with your behaviour today."
"Happy for you, bro! Let’s party!" Becca said tipsily.
"Congratulations, brother!" Zian and Theon congratulated their brother on his successful wedding to Deborah.
Alpha Maxwell smiled. "Thank you everyone. The wedding is finally over. Let’s all go to our rooms and sleep!" he said, covering his mouth as he began yawning.
After bidding goodbye to Deborah’s family, the newlywed couple entered the mansion, climbed the stairs and went straight to their rooms on the second floor to retire for the night.
Deborah was upset when her husband proceeded to the guest room. "Come with me to our room, hubby. It’s about time we slept in one room together because we are a married couple already," she said excitedly.
"I’m not in the mood to argue with you, Deb. The night is getting late. I’m tired and sleepy. Go now and sleep," he said coldly, shutting the door on her face.
She was furious that his treatment of her didn’t change after their wedding, so she retired to their room alone, seething in anger.
"Leave!" She ordered the maid who was babysitting her son to leave the room immediately.
She looked at her son’s sleeping form, sadness marred her pretty face.
Wound up, she needed to vent. She discarded her wedding dress and slammed it to the floor with full force.
Feeling restless, she began pacing back and forth in the room, her blood boiling in rage.
Sigh. Her chest ached painfully.
Nothing has changed in their relationship. It was as if they were not husband and wife at all. The sad reality killed her inside.
Half an hour later, she fell asleep with tears in her eyes.
