Captive By Desire, A Love We Can't Deny
Chapter 85: You Ruin Me!
CHAPTER 85: YOU RUIN ME!
Alpha Maxwell felt something was wrong. He quickly returned to the room only to find the curtain devoured by flames.
His chest seized with horror and fear for the safety of his son and Deborah. He quickly grabbed the curtain and ripped it from the wall at lightning speed and ran to the bathroom, throwing the curtain onto the floor and opening the shower, immediately putting the fire out.
He left the bathroom and opened the window, allowing fresh air into the room, pushing the smoke out of the room.
After everything was over, he looked at Deborah sleeping on the bed. "Wake up!" he said, trying to rouse her from her sleep.
Deborah reluctantly opened her eyes and asked, "Hubby, you’re back. What’s wrong? Why did you wake me up?" Her brows drew together in confusion, feigning innocence.
"Don’t tell me that the candle started the fire without your participation? You started the fire didn’t you?" he accused her blatantly.
Deborah shakes her head. "No I didn’t! Didn’t you see that I was sleeping when you arrived and that I only woke up when you were done putting out the fire? It was an accident!" She declared her innocence in a serious tone.
Alpha Maxwell began pacing back and forth in the middle of the room. He looked at her, scowling angrily.
"You are a pathological liar!" He accusingly pointed his finger at her face. "If my family asks you why you started the fire, how will you answer them?"
Deborah smirked. "I will tell them the truth that we haven’t consummated our wedding yet so out of desperation I bought out special love candle so we might make love. But you still ignored me and left the room. Because of my anger I went to sleep and forgot about the burning candle. I didn’t expect that while I’d been sleeping the curtains would catch fire."
"That’s a big lie!" He throws his hands in the air out of frustration. "You started the fire, admit it!"
Deborah snapped. "Why would I do that? Who will believe you? I may be a bad-tempered person but I will never put my son in such a horrific situation. I will never burn him alive! Don’t you dare accuse me! No one will believe you!"
He sighed heavily. No matter what he says, Deborah will never admit that she started the fire. She will never admit it.
She really is willing to die together with their son just because she was angry that she can’t get what she wants from him.
He looked at her with anger flashing in his eyes. Deborah is a dangerous person. She might do it again! She meant to burn the whole mansion down but good thing he was able to stop it on time.
He can’t allow such a horrific accident to happen again!
He picked up the rest of the candle and walked to the door.
"What are you going to do with my candles? Where are you taking them?" she asked, rising from the bed.
"I’m going to throw them away because you might be tempted to burn the house again!" He responded between clenched teeth. He was keeping his temper in check, fearing that he might be tempted to hurt her physically. The only thing that stops him from punching her to a pulp is his son.
He went downstairs and dumped the candles in the garbage can in the kitchen.
Something needs to be done to prevent these things from happening again!
As much as he doesn’t want to leave the mansion yet, he has to remove Deborah from the mansion. He fears that next time, she might succeed in her evil intentions. He only has himself to blame if something bad happens to his family in the future.
He took a deep breath and quickly went back upstairs. Tonight he wanted to have a heart-to-heart talk with his deranged wife. He hoped that they could make a truce because her erratic behaviour was already getting out of hand.
When he arrived back in the room, Deborah was sitting on the bed, looking distraught, sobbing helplessly.
"And now you are crying because you finally realized that you and our son could have died during the fire accident that you intentionally orchestrated?" he snarled resentfully.
She raised her tear-stricken face and shot daggers into his eyes. "Yeah, I’m going crazy but it’s all your fault!"
He raised a brow. "What the hell? Why are you blaming me? How can you say it’s my fault? I didn’t start the fire in the first place, it’s you and your lunatic behavior who started the fire!" he yelled into her face, no longer caring if the entire family woke up due to their heated argument.
Baby Zed stirred in his sleep, startled by the loud voice of his parents.
Alpha Maxwell immediately picked him up and sang him a lullaby to prevent him from crying.
Debora left the bed and walked to the window, staring at the dark horizon, her eyes swarmed with tears.
He went closer and spoke in a low voice, "Do you regret marrying me now? Our relationship was crumbling apart even before we started wedding preparations. Yet you never back away from marrying me despite knowing I’m legally married to Naomi. Our marriage will never work because you always make things difficult for us. You always nag at me, are angry and jealous for all the wrong reasons. Let’s get an early divorce before we go crazy together," he suggested.
Deborah’s eyes shimmered in anger. "Going crazy with you sounds nice to me," she laughed wickedly.
"You are insufferable!" He hissed, trying his best not to hit her.
"And so are you! We are already a married couple and we are bound together forever in happiness, sickness and pain. We shall never get divorced—over my dead body!" she declared vehemently.
He looked at her in disgust. Her behaviour is getting worse now. He doesn’t know how far her crazy antics can go, but he only knows one thing, she will definitely make his life a living hell.
This can’t go on—they will only drive each other insane.
"You are crazy. Maybe we need to visit a doctor so they can give you a prescription that would mellow you down," he suggested calmly. "Your anger is uncontrollable. When you dangle our son outside the window and attempt to burn this room down you are already showing red flags of insanity. You will go crazy if I don’t help you. Let’s see a doctor tomorrow to cure yourself," he added.
"No! I’m not crazy—I have a sound mind and body! It is you who always makes me angry. You are not doing anything to show me that you care and love me. As your wife you treat me coldly. You are the reason why I behave like this! I can’t get love from you. You always ignore and hurt my feelings. You ruin me!" she yelled angrily into his face.
He took a deep breath and said, "If you can’t feel my love and I’m being cold towards you, it’s not my fault anymore. I’ve always been like this before we got married and you know it. Yet you still insist on marrying me! Now you have finally got what you wished for. I’m your husband now and you are my wife. Now tell me—are you happy?"
Deborah didn’t reply. She kept her mouth shut, wondering where she had gone wrong?
Maybe the problem with their relationship is really her. She admitted to herself that she was moody and got anger issues. She acts irrationally sometimes which can trigger other people.
What if she changed her ways? Would her husband love her again?
This would be her last attempt at salvaging their crumbling marriage. Honestly she was terrified that he would abandon her and file for a divorce on grounds of irreconcilable differences or mental breakdown of one’s spouse.
She has to make a decision before it’s too late.
"Alright, I will try my best to change my attitude. I will try to be calm this time. In order for me to activate that kind of attitude in my system, we need to relocate to a new house. Since you don’t want to get separated from your son Jacob, I’m willing to relocate to the bungalow house so we can have privacy as a married couple," she finally said in a serious tone.
Alpha Maxwell was disappointed by her decision. He expected that she would finally agree to a divorce so they could free each other from this madness. But it seems his crazy wife still clings to the memory of their past which is wrong because he already loved someone else.
He was tired and wanted a long rest.
He had no more energy left to argue with her. "Fine. If it is what you want, I will inform Grandma about it. She is willing to switch houses because she was the one who suggested it. Go back to sleep and please stop thinking about crazy stuff from now on. If you succeed with your evil intentions, tomorrow morning you will never see the sun shining again on the horizon. Take a moment to reflect on your actions before you close your eyes to sleep tonight," he said dejectedly.
He planted a gentle kiss on baby Zed’s head and left the room.
Deborah sat on the edge of the bed and broke down. She wept hard in silence, careful not to wake her son. Her husband is right, she and her son could have died tonight if the fire were not put out quickly. The thought of being burned alive terrified her to the bone.
She really needs to reflect on her actions.
She finally turned off the lights and lay down on the bed, hugging her son lovingly.
Burdened by guilt she cried in silence until her eyes were swollen from so much crying.
She drifted into a deep slumber fifteen minutes later.
