Captive By Desire, A Love We Can't Deny
Chapter 87: Only You Can See
CHAPTER 87: ONLY YOU CAN SEE
~Burke Family Mansion~
That day, after breakfast Alpha Maxwell went to the bungalow house to discuss with Grandma about Deborah’s request.
"Grams, Deborah would like to switch houses. You will return to the mansion together with baby Jacob while we take up residence here," Alpha Maxwell said.
Grandma Franchia raised a brow and asked, "Oh, what happened? Why did she suddenly change her mind?"
"Grams, last night, my wife bought a love candle from the mall to seduce me and wanted to have sex with me, but I left the room and she was mad that I had abandoned her so she intentionally lit the curtain and when I returned to the room, the curtain was already devoured by flames. I managed to subdue the flames before they could do great damage," he narrated in horror, still feeling the dread of what took place last night.
Grandma’s eyes widened in shock and horror. "Whaaaat? She really did that? Her craziness is getting worse. If you didn’t return to the room the whole house would burn down and our family would be killed in the fire. Such a vile woman! I want you to divorce her now!" She demanded angrily, furious that Deborah resorted to such a dubious action without thinking about her son and other people’s safety.
"Deborah is losing her mind! Go tell your father about what she has done!" Grandma added furiously.
Alpha Maxwell released a deep sigh. "Grams, please calm down. Deborah already agreed to switch houses, maybe this is her way of coping with what happened last night. I can’t divorce her right now because the media will make a circus out of it. Besides, Deborah is emotionally unstable. She might harm herself and our baby. I would be crucified as a heartless husband and father if I divorced her right away because we had just married." He expressed his dilemma regarding the chaos happening in his marriage.
"But she is already mentally unstable—she will become a danger to everyone around her. We don’t know what crazy antics she is planning to do next. How can you tolerate her madness? I want her to leave our property!" Grandma insisted. Her voice vibrated around the living room, proof that Deborah’s latest sin had irked her to the bones.
A knot formed in his chest. Alpha Maxwell released a deep sigh to release tension. "Yes, you are right, Grams, but deep inside I also knew I was the reason why she’s acting this way..."
Grandma’s eyebrows waggled. "Why is that?"
"Because I can no longer love her the same way as before that’s why she behaved negatively," he responded in a dispirited tone, his tone laced with guilt.
"So... are you saying...you will become a loving husband to her now to make her feel better?" Grandma raised a brow. "But what about Naomi?"
Alpha Maxwell answered, "It’s only temporary, Grams. I want Deborah to feel better emotionally and mentally so she can accept the divorce with a sane mind. Divorcing her right now might be fatal. She could end up committing another suicide act just like what she did last night. So what I’m doing right now is making her feel better and restoring some normalcy to her chaotic mind," he explained calmly.
Grandma nodded her head. "I understand what you are trying to say, my boy. Alright, I support you. I just hope Deborah will change for the better or else she will surely suffer one day because of her craziness. She can only blame herself for her downfall," she said coldly.
"Thank you, Grams," Alpha Maxwell said.
"We will begin packing our things at this very minute," Grandma finally relented.
"I’ll help you," he replied.
Two hours later, Luna Adela came to the bungalow house to see what was happening there.
"What’s going on here, son?" Luna Adela asked, surprised.
"Ah, I’m sorry Mom. I forgot to inform you that Deborah wants to change places now. She wants to live here and Grandma will return to the mansion with baby Jacob," Alpha Maxwell explained.
Luna Adela raised a brow. "But why?"
"Because she tried to burn her room last night using the candle she bought from the mall. She was mad because I refused to have sex with her," he responded gloomily. He can’t imagine explaining the same thing to every member of his family, so tiring.
"Why did she do that? I still can’t understand her motive for doing so..." Luna Adela was furious.
"Because she was mad that I still refused to accept her as my wife and I have no plans on making love to her. In short she wanted to end her life along with my son and everyone else in the mansion last night. But there’s no need to talk about the incident, I already put out the fire in time. It’s over now. The only casualty last night was the curtain. We have to move on from this incident," he said in a hard tone.
"I will talk to Deborah. She is getting worse. I won’t tolerate this kind of behavior in my house!" Luna Adela gritted her teeth in anger.
Alpha Maxwell sighed. "Mom, don’t do it today because Deborah is still reeling from the shock of what she did last night. Reprimanding her might trigger another manic episode and we have no idea what she’s going to do next. So, please let’s just pretend that nothing happened last night. You can talk to her about it after a few days when we have already settled in here."
Luna Adela was very disappointed with Deborah but she understood where her son was coming from. She can’t scold Deborah in her current mental and emotional state. The couple’s fragile situation might deteriorate further due to her interference. She can only support the couple for now. "OK, I will not talk to her today. I will pretend nothing horrific happened last night."
"Thank you, Mom." Alpha Maxwell felt relieved.
Luna Adela mobilized servants to help the couple’s speedy relocation to the bungalow house.
On the same day, Deborah, baby Jacob and Alpha Maxwell settled into their little home.
For the first time since last night, Deborah flashes a bright smile for everyone to see. She even prepared a delicious snack for everyone to eat, feeling gracious and thankful for her second life.
"She looks happy," Luna Adela commented casually while watching her daughter-in-law busy in the kitchen.
Alpha Maxwell sighed. "Yeah, hopefully her mood improves in the coming days. She looked distraught last night after she realized that the fire she started in our room could end her life and our son’s in an instant if I didn’t come back on time to check on them."
"I had hoped that she would value the beauty of her life more than ever now that you are finally going to live here at your own place," Luna Adela whispered.
"I hope so," Alpha Maxwell murmured, planting a kiss on baby Zed’s head.
After the relocation was over, Luna Adela and the rest of the servants returned to the mansion. Deborah requested only one servant to accompany them to their new house.
Alpha Maxwell spent the whole day in the house, caring for baby Zed.
The afternoon passed like a blur.
That night, Deborah cooked dinner for the family. She happily served her husband delicious food to celebrate their independence.
"Hubby, I’m feeling happy right now. We finally have our own house! I can cook you delicious food everyday!" she said enthusiastically.
Alpha Maxwell watches her face intently. There is no trace of the bad incident last night on her face, as if the fire last night never happened at all. She looks happier in this house compared to the mansion, although it’s just their first day here.
Something in her completely changed in just a few hours. What is that?
She meets his gaze, smiling brightly. "Are you surprised why I look so happy now? Wondering how I could act like this, as if I hadn’t started the fire last night?"
He nodded his head, no longer surprised why she guessed perfectly what he was thinking in his mind right now. "Yeah, but you don’t have to say anything. I’m just glad you look happier now. It will be good for your mental and emotional well-being if you continue to behave this way," he said sincerely. "I just hope your happiness is genuine, and you are not faking it," he added solemnly.
She was not offended by his words, instead she continued to smile. "I look happy because of my second chance at life. I would like to thank you for coming back into the room and saving me and our son from death. I’m sorry I acted irrationally, putting everyone’s lives in danger. I hope you forgive me." She apologized wholeheartedly.
Alpha Maxwell responded, "You are forgiven. Just don’t do it again. I don’t want you putting your life and our son in danger. It’s not worth it."
Deborah nodded her head. "You are right, I admit my anger issues are pushing me to do stupid things nowadays. But that is about to change. Don’t worry from now on you will see a better version of me. I have decided to reform myself because I finally appreciate the beauty of life more than ever."
He raised a brow. It seemed that she was hinting at something only she knew. "What do you mean?"
