CHAPTER 561: +CHAPTER 561+

After lunch, Nikolai and Angelo took their leave after giving their thanks, heading right to the car after they left the kitchen.

Angelo was tense as the car drove out of the gates, although he knew that if something had gone wrong, Cain would have called, he couldn’t help but be anxious.

His hands found his hair, absently braiding his now completely dry hair, his foot tapping.

Nikolai shot him worried looks, he knew where Angelo’s worries stemmed from, and he wanted to offer comfort, but he didn’t know how. It didn’t help that he wasn’t particularly close to Silvia, even when they had essentially been working together, there had still been a brick wall between them.

His relationship with Angelo had been murky before their separation, and now, he couldn’t even say if the assassin was still upset with him or not.

Angelo was out of the car in a heartbeat when the car got to their destination. It was a private hospital, and it didn’t take them long to find Cain. The Alpha was seated in a waiting room, his face showing his weariness.

His clothes were still bloody from the surprise visit they had gotten that morning; it looked like he had only managed to wash up a bit in the hospital’s restroom to make himself look a bit presentable.

Cain rose to his feet when he saw them approach, he looked tired but there was relief in his pale eyes. "I just spoke to the doctor," He plunged right into it as soon as Angelo approached, "The surgery was successful, we’ll be able to see her soon."

Angelo nodded, a choking feeling in his throat that he tried to swallow past.

"She was lucky, only some tissue damage and a slight fracture. The surgery was to get the bullet out as quickly as possible before lead poisoning set in..."

Nikolai hung back, listening to the conversation from the sidelines. Silvia was going to be alright, a few weeks of recuperation, and she would be able to walk without any form of assistance.

While they were still having their conversation, a nurse with a clipboard came over, walking right up to Cain. "The patient is awake and will see you now," She generally informed the people gathered.

That was their cue to follow right after her; Nikolai hesitated, wondering if it was his place to tag along. He didn’t mind waiting in the waiting room for them, but that thought completely dissolved when Angelo’s hand sought his out.

Nikolai looked down in wonder at where their hands were joined; the assassin’s hold was tight, and if it were anyone else, it would have bothered on uncomfortable, but it was just right for Nikolai.

The fact that Angelo had sought him out for comfort made him completely forget about whether it was appropriate or not for him to be present.

Silvia had been moved from the operating room, she was propped against pillows in a sterile white room, fading bruises on her face.

Her bruised face broke out in the biggest smile Nikolai had ever seen on her when they stepped in; there was another nurse in the room gently propping her injured leg on pillows to keep it elevated. The nurses didn’t stay, leaving shortly after.

Cain hurried to Silvia’s side in a heartbeat, wary of touching her like her entire body was in a cast.

Silvia was happy to see him, but her impatience for Angelo was clearly written on her face.

Cain was satisfied with what he saw, quietly taking a seat next to her bed. His shoulders were slouched, his exhaustion prominent now that the rest of his adrenaline was fading.

Angelo stood close to the door, his feet rooted to the ground, his vision blurry. Despite the fact that he had spoken to Cain earlier and the Alpha had reassured him that Silvia would be fine, seeing her had a much harder impact on him.

Nikolai glanced at Angelo, the Omega’s hold had gone slack at the sight of Silvia, but he was greedy, so he held on, seriously considering taking the initiative to bring Angelo closer to Silvia, because he seemed to have completely lost the ability to move.

Silvia’s dark eyes were sunken with exhaustion, but her smile lit up her entire face. She knew that Nikolai could do it, but she had remained in the dark for the entire day, and it ate at her.

Angelo had been her first thought after she came out from under amnesia, but she still needed to wait for a while before she could get some information on him.

She hadn’t been expecting to see him, she had just hoped to be able to get some information from Cain, hopefully good, if any at all. Getting to see Angelo instead was such a boon that it made her momentarily forget her pain and aches, and the fact that she couldn’t just get up and walk over to him.

"Not even going to give me a hug?" Silvia finally broke the silence, "I’m hurt." Despite her words, her smile stretched from ear to ear.

She had feared the very worst, so the sight of Angelo unhurt and in one piece was almost unbelievable.

That broke Angelo out of his shock, and when he took a step forward, Nikolai let him go, hanging back by the door.

Angelo tried to respond to Silvia with a smile of his own, but his lips refused to listen to him, his lips turning down.

He stopped a short distance away from her bed, even though logically he knew that a gunshot to the knee was far from a life-threatening injury, especially as Silvia had gotten medical assistance right away, his brain was refusing to process it right.

He had been caught up in his own thoughts ever since they got to Asher’s club, plagued by visions of Silvia’s pale face staring back at him from a pool of blood. But there was none of that, just the brightest smile he had ever seen on her face.

There wasn’t even a splash of blood in the pristine room and Silvia’s voice sounded like it always did...

Just as Silvia was about to ignore her nurse’s warnings and reach out to pull Angelo close, he took the last few steps closer.
