CHAPTER 575: +CHAPTER 575+

Both cars arrived at Davian’s mansion at the same time, the two groups parting ways in the foyer. Nikolai and Davian were already aware of the High Council spy that had been found, but that was to be expected.

They both knew that the one spy wouldn’t be the only one they would be finding in the coming days.

Angelo went right to his room. He wanted to visit Silvia early so he could join Nikolai for the rest of the day. He stopped in front of the door, reminded of something at the last moment.

"You don’t like your room, right?" He turned to Nikolai, who was about to take a step past his room.

Nikolai froze; he hadn’t just said that to get what he wanted. There would be no sleeping tonight while knowing that Angelo was right in the next room. "I don’t."

"You can sleep in mine," The Omega offered casually, pushing a hand through his hair that had miraculously come undone on the car ride home as he stepped into his room.

Nikolai planned to end up in the assassin’s bed that night, regardless of whether he had to sneak in, but being invited was far nicer. He pushed open the door to his own room with a smile, going to get ready for bed.

The next morning started as Angelo’s mornings usually went, with his face in Nikolai’s chest and hair in his mouth. He sat up with a serene expression; he didn’t mind his hair everywhere as much as he liked to complain.

He stretched, lingering by the side of the bed. "Don’t you have somewhere to be this morning?" He directed at the Mafia King in his bed, who still stubbornly had his eyes closed.

Nikolai rolled over to his back. He wanted to remain in Angelo’s bed for the rest of the day, but the assassin would leave soon, and it would just go back to being an average room.

Angelo finger-combed his hair, walking away from the bed to get ready for the day. By the time he stepped out of the bathroom in a bathrobe, toweling his hair, his bed was empty.

He walked over to the windows to draw the curtains open. The sun was still hidden behind clouds that morning, but it was bright nonetheless, gentle light spilling in.

His attention was drawn back to the bed; even though before their separation, Mafia King Nikolai always ended up in his bed, he hadn’t wanted to be too forward by requesting a single room for them both.

He turned away, heading to his dresser to get ready for the day. He was also an Omega, it wasn’t proper to share a room with an Alpha - or what were society’s rules about that again?

Angelo usually didn’t care about what society had to say, but there was no ignoring their contrasting natures. If he were still on hormone inhibitors and presenting as a Beta, maybe he would have been less self-conscious about it.

It wasn’t like they were a thing...

Angelo didn’t dress up in the usual oversized sweaters and loose pants like he had been doing for weeks now, swapping them out for his fitted shirts and combat pants.

He felt more comfortable after he was fully dressed with several knives of every variety strapped to his body, and he didn’t know how to feel about that. His visit to Silvia would be very brief, then he would spend the rest of the day by Nikolai’s side.

Even without the jarring news about a spy at Mafia King Asher’s home, the situation was very tense, so everyone had to be extra cautious. He already called Silvia that morning to tell her that he would be coming to visit, ready to leave right away.

He stepped out of his room only to nearly run into Nikolai. The Mafia King made no move to step back, the distance between them almost nonexistent.

"Rosie has been down here to invite us to breakfast," Nikolai informed him, physically incapable of looking him in the eyes.

Angelo crossed his arms as he watched Nikolai’s gleaming glaciers for eyes trail down his new outfit. "Well?"

He had actually forgotten about breakfast; despite being in Mafia King Davian’s mansion, it felt like he was back at Nikolai’s penthouse. Neither of them had healthy habits regarding most things, so he hadn’t thought much about skipping breakfast.

Nikolai finally wrenched his gaze away from his body, settling on his hair. "Well, what?" He asked absently.

"Aren’t we going to eat breakfast?" He prompted, taking a step back at Nikolai’s focus on his hair. He had spent a decent amount of time on a proper braid and a tight knot.

"We are," Nikolai also took a step back, heading down the hallway.

Breakfast was pleasant as it always was with the Blacks. Although it was cloudy outside, the kitchen was bright; it always gave Angelo the impression that it was a scene from a pleasant memory or a feel-good movie.

He didn’t eat much, leaving the table first. He did have an appointment to keep up with. Silvia’s safehouse wasn’t on the map, so he would have to drive somewhere nearby, and then Cain would come to pick him up.

Angelo didn’t mind; he was relieved about the extra measures put in place. Silvia was too vulnerable at the moment to become a target of the High Council.

A car was already prepared for him when he stepped out of the front doors. He couldn’t say if it belonged to Nikolai or Mafia King Davian.

He got in, driving himself out of the mansion. He was so focused that he didn’t notice Nikolai standing on the stairs as he left, the Alpha leaving shortly after he did.

Rosie stared at the door long after Angelo and Nikolai had left, worry creasing her brows. "Are they both alright?"

Daviann cocked a brow, wondering how she came to that suggestion. If anything, they seemed a little too fine with how Nikolai’s eyes were glued to the quiet Omega.

"Angelo is an assassin," Lake explained instead, "I don’t think they both have the time to indulge in breakfast often."

They had tried their best to eat as much as they could, but Angelo seemed to have left in a hurry, Nikolai chasing right after him.

Rosie’s eyes bulged, "Angelo is an assassin??"

Lake had already moved on, turning to his mate, who was adding more eggs to his plate. "Maybe you shouldn’t bother with breakfast for them next time." He suggested, he didn’t want them to feel obligated to eat with them every morning.

Honestly, the reason why breakfast had become the norm was because of him. His mate insisted on cooking as many of his meals as possible, and Davian couldn’t stand to see him go to the company without eating.

"That can be arranged," Davian agreed easily, addressing Rosie. "Was. Now he works for Nikolai."

Rosie closed her gaping mouth. The way the Omega had dressed that morning now made a hint of sense. But she just couldn’t see it; Angelo was usually quiet, but he was too gentle to be an assassin.

She was still caught up in her thoughts about it even when they left the mansion half an hour later.

Angelo focused on the road. He had gotten another call from Cain to tell him that he would leave after Angelo had gotten to the designated spot. It was a cozy restaurant in Central Area’s 3rd District.

It was mostly a residential area where the elite lived, so there were only a handful of commercial buildings. Sprawling estates and high-rises taking up the spaces along neatly paved roads.

A few minutes from the restaurant, he took a wrong turn and then took a couple more turns at random, noticing that a nondescript car a short distance behind him followed him regardless.

The 3rd District didn’t have a lot of great places for a confrontation with a potential stalker or spy. Angelo cruised around for a bit until he saw the entrance to a park, then he stopped on a whim in the designated parking lot next to the park.

It was early in the morning on a weekday, and although the park was open to public use, the people who lived in the 3rd District more than likely had gardens more impressive than the park. It was more of a cosmetic landmark than one that was actually used for its intended purpose.

The entrance to the park was a sprawling but intricately done vintage garden gate. There was no one manning the gates, one of the gates opening inwards, inviting passerbys into the picturesque park.

Angelo slipped inside casually, looking left to right a little jumpily before walking through the gates. There was absolutely nothing he needed to do in the park, but deeper into the green park, it transitioned into a wooded area which was no doubt to invite hikers.

He wasn’t interested in a hike, but it would work perfectly for what he needed to do. He walked casually into the woods and then ducked behind a tree when he was no longer visible from the park, waiting for his stalker to take the bait and come after him.
