Angelica couldn't believe the words coming out of her father's mouth. This was the same man who went out of his way to make an example out of some high school girls who tried to bully her for being a rich man's daughter.

Her father made sure that those girls' parents never found a proper job. He destroyed them mentally and financially and made sure everyone knew what happened to them in the form of a rumor.

Since then, no one even dared to look at her the wrong way.

So for that same man to say, he would do nothing but mourn for her if something happens?

It all finally came crashing down on Angelica. This time, her father won't be able to save her if anything happens.

All her life, she managed to do what she did because she always knew she had someone to fall back on if things went wrong. This made her arrogant and confident, but it worked in her favor because she is best at what she does when she is arrogant and overconfident.

Now her biggest backer won't be there for her, because this time she seems to have come under the clutches of a man who even her father is scared of.

"That's it?" She asks with a shaky voice.

"Go back, talk to him. See what he wants. That's all I can do for you, maybe pray, nothing more," Richard says, defeated.

Angelica stands back up. The look on her face says it all. Since her father has given up on her, she has nothing left. She can no longer be arrogant without her father.

With weak, small steps, she walks out of Richard's office as he watches his daughter with a complicated gaze.

Richard would do anything for his daughter, but this time, he knows he can't do anything. And the reason he knows is that he has seen it happen right before his eyes.

When Richard was a young lawyer trying to make it big by any means possible, he worked under his senior, a ruthless man.

Richard followed him around everywhere, learning every possible trick in the book, both good and bad.

But then one day, Richard and his mentor were hired by a big shot. A billionaire whose influence spanned across the globe. He had connections, powerful connections with powerful people, politicians, other rich men, mafia.

He had it all, but then he got involved in something he shouldn't have. He entered a business, a very lucrative one. He was surprised that none of his rivals were involved in it.

A huge market no one was trying to target, most of it handled by the locals of the region.

He charged head-on, only to get a warning not to do it through an unknown channel. He brushed it off, laughing, thinking that no one can touch him; he is, after all, a billionaire.

But then, suddenly, his business started falling, police started raiding his offices, finding evidence that should never have been there. The billionaire realized he was being set up.

And he called Richard's mentor as one of the people to save his company. Richard watched his mentor do everything, try everything, every trick in his book, both legal and illegal, but nothing worked. It's as if the universe itself wanted the billionaire gone.

Within a few days, the billionaire's assets were reduced to nothing. He went from billionaire to broke. Richard had never seen anything like this before.

His family was taken out one after another, all accidents. Even though everyone could see it was not. All his family members dropping dead one after the other was too much of a coincidence, but for some reason, every authority, politicians, investigative bureaus, all acted as if the billionaire didn't exist at all, his family didn't exist at all.

Richard watched his mentor stare dumbfounded at everything that was happening, and before you knew it, even the billionaire died, another accident. But the most shocking factor about his death was that nobody dared to talk about it.

The police didn't investigate his death, the media didn't cover it, and the politicians didn't make a fuss about it. A billionaire, one of the most influential men on the planet, got erased from the face of the earth, and no one bothered to ask even a single question.

Except for Richard's mentor, he tried digging around a little to understand what happened to his client, only for him to end up dead as well. Authorities ruled it a suicide and ended the investigation.

Richard was terrified, thinking he would be next as he is connected to it, but he only got a warning. A note with no name, no address, just a simple note on a piece of paper. Ordering him to keep his mouth shut forever if he doesn't want to end up like his mentor.

That day, Richard realized that the world he is living in is controlled by people who are not just above the law, they are the ones who make it for people like him to follow or manipulate while hiding in the shadows.

And it looks like his poor daughter is now in the clutches of one of these very people.

'I hope she hasn't offended him,' Richard thinks, and goes back to work as it's the only way he can keep his mind off everything that has happened.

As he sits down at his computer, he looks at his computer screen again. A very lengthy list of names. Richard can't believe he has this on his computer.

If this thing gets out, it would cause pandemonium, but this thing is also the greatest weapon one can have.

'If I can use this...' Richard thinks, but his computer suddenly flashes blue, and when the screen returns, everything is gone, even the channel through which it was sent has disappeared.

As if it never happened at all. 'Of course, they would never let me keep it. It was just to warn me...' Richard thinks and lets out an exhausted sigh.

Angelica makes her way back to her office. On her way here, her steps were deliberately slow, and her face showed deep concern, which wasn't gone unnoticed by her coworkers, but they didn't bother checking up on her, no matter how wrecked she looked.

Angelica walks into her office and sees Amon's tall and broad figure standing next to the glass wall, looking down on the busy city below them.

"You are back, and it looks like your father made you understand," Amon says without looking at her.

Angelica looks at him with shaky eyes. She opens her mouth to say something, but can't bring herself to say it.

She slowly walks back to her chair and sits down, processing everything. She looks at Amon again, and she can see that he has a smile on his handsome face.

"What can I do for you..." She finally says what Amon is here for. He turns to look at her with the same smile as before.

Angelica shudders, wondering what her life is going to be like now that this unknown man has claimed it as his.

Amon takes his seat.

"Before we discuss my reason for being here, let's make one thing clear. Do you understand who you are?" Amon asks.

Angelica looks at him, confused, intimidated, and many other things. "I am Angelica Brooke... and I am your lawyer..." she says.

She is a smart girl; she knows what to say.

Amon's smile widens.

"I knew you were smart, that's why I chose you," Amon says.

Angelica just nods her head. Amon can see that he has the poor girl rattled. 'Okay, time for me to reel back on the scary stuff,' Amon thinks and decides to go easy on the woman.

"Your reason for only choosing me is that I am smart?" Angelica asks. It didn't make sense. Though she is good, she is still not the best lawyer in the city, let alone the world.

And if Amon is really the person her father thinks he is, then why would he choose her?

"Well, it's one half of the reason I chose you," Amon says, smiling.

"What's the other half?" Angelica asks.

"Well, it's because you hate Kent," Amon says, smiling.

Angelica's eyes widen.

"Wait, you chose me because I hate Kent? Nothing else?" Angelica can't believe what she is hearing.

"Why not? Do I need any other reason?" Amon asks.

"You are doing this all because of Kent? So you hate Kent as well? Why does a man of your status and standing care about a commoner like him?" Angelica asks, confused.

She can't make sense of anything. Amon forced her into becoming a slave, just before she hates Kent, and so does he?

"Hate? I don't have a single hating bone in my body. I pity that man," Amon says.

"Pity?" Angelica asks, confused.

"Yes, pity. But let's not talk about it. Let's get to the reason I am here," Amon says.

"And that is?" Angelica asks.

"I want you to represent someone in a divorce case," Amon says.

"Divorce case? Are you getting a divorce?" She asks.

"Not me, a certain someone very close to me. And I am sure you will love to defend her as well," Amon says.

"Her?" Angelica asks.

"Yes, her name is Caroline Smith, soon to be ex-wife of Kent Smith," Amon says.

Angelica is once again surprised.

"I am sure you already know about the recent personal troubles that have been haunting Mr. Smith; that is how you managed to steal that Moore fellow from him. Nice work.

Well, anyway, the reason he is having personal troubles is because his wife, Caroline, is cheating on him... With me," Amon says with an innocent smile.
