CHAPTER 1906: CHAPTER 900: THE WAGER – A TRIUMPHANT START TO THE NORMAL UNIVERSITY EXPEDITION (PART 2)
"Is it to let the boss lady get used to her unique... oh, should be second-to-none status here?" Julia was quite good at using the ranch’s language, not only knowing idioms but also drawing inferences from them.
"Pretty much, it’s about not letting her work so hard, letting others handle things that others can do, not to personally take care of everything." Thinking about it, Yan Fei said, hoping he could make it simple and easy to understand. He wasn’t afraid that Julia wouldn’t understand, but rather worried she might do it too obviously, making the wife uncomfortable.
"I understand, boss!" Julia smiled sweetly. "Just watch my performance, boss! If there’s anything inappropriate, just remind me to improve, and I’ll do my best."
"That’s good, go ahead!" Yan Fei nodded. "If you do well, when I manage the outside well, maybe in the future, there will be a chance for you all to return to society."
He wasn’t just saying this randomly. In the future, if he got a small island, he’d kick all the laborers out to continue working. Given that the facilities here are getting more advanced, and conditions better, it doesn’t seem like punishing laborers; it’s more like rewarding them with a primitive-style resort!
Of course, what he meant by managing well, he didn’t quite figure out what effect he wanted, but he had this idea. With an idea, it can certainly be realized; whether it takes a year, two years, three or four years, five, six, seven, or eight years, there will always come a time when it’s realized.
Julia, hearing his words, felt a jolt through her body, then turned back, saluted, and walked out with determination.
She used to be a secretary for old Mr. Jones, and she likely should be competent to be a personal secretary for the wife. Seeing her walk out, Yan Fei didn’t go tell his wife but quickly ran out.
Slowly pretending to just come out of the restroom, he found that indeed no one paid attention to him. As he stepped onto the deck, he heard Xiaoning and others arguing about something.
Xiaoning, whose name is Feng Ning, though a bit unconventional, is quite a smart girl. She’s the same age as Xiaohe and has already graduated from university—one must admit, a genius with resources can certainly perform more outstandingly. If she had lived in a poor family in the Sancha River countryside, even if she were a genius, she’d probably be at most in high school by now.
At this moment, it was Xiaoning shouting, "That boat definitely has a problem, if you don’t believe me, go check it out!"
Zhang Jian opposed her, "You say just because they’re sneaking glances at us, there’s a problem? Just now they blocked our way, and it’s normal for them to intentionally make way, isn’t it? It’s just an old fishing boat, seeing our boat and making way isn’t quite normal?"
After listening to a few words, it became clear. Fishing isn’t of much interest to young girls; she lazily watched her hook thrown into the sea but was looking around constantly.
Then she felt that the boat making way for their ship was odd, and the people on it behaved suspiciously. She then began limitless imagination about smuggling, human trafficking... basically, whatever she could think of, she thought of, firmly believing that the solitary boat floating on the sea was conducting illegal transactions.
Xiaohe and the others did not believe her judgment, how likely is it to encounter a smuggling boat just on a rare sea trip? How coincidental could it be? Besides, this is broad daylight, would smugglers be so blatant?
...
Taking advantage of the argument, Yan Fei also glanced at the ship they were pointing at. His eyesight was good, but the boat was gradually moving away and in a different direction, so there wasn’t much he saw.
But from what he saw, the few sailor-dressed guys who appeared on the fishing boat indeed seemed a bit wary. Unfortunately, he couldn’t hear them talking, only relying on his excellent eyesight to read their expressions.
After thinking for a bit, feeling helpless, he... went to the ’restroom’ again!
Fortunately, no one noticed him.
...
A small bizarre fish quickly swam to the fishing boat’s side, then turned into a small little insect and flew aboard. After one round inside, the answer came out—how could there be sailors openly shouting boss jargon with a few obviously hiding weapons on their waists!
The fishing boat wasn’t fishing, just lazily floating around, and they were discussing plans to dock at night—how could they be doing legitimate work?
The small flying insect dropped into the sea, turned into a small fish, swam back to the yacht’s side, and then strolled out from the restroom.
Once on deck, he swaggered and said to Xiaoning, who was still somewhat unconvinced, "I also think there’s a problem, I support you. How about making a bet?"
Xiaoning finally found someone to support her, very happy, "Sure! You guys tell, bet what?"
"How to bet? You think people’s fishing boat would let us go up and check?" Zhang Jian asked in return.
"Call the Maritime Inspection Team!" Yan Fei said with a smile. "What’s the use of us arguing, just call the Maritime Inspection Team and say there’s suspicion about that boat; it’s quite normal for them to check it. Even if it’s a false report, we didn’t do it on purpose..."
Right!
While others hadn’t reacted, Xiaoning had already jumped up, "Hey, where’s my phone! What’s the maritime police’s number? Whoever knows, tell me quickly..."
"Wait, we haven’t even set the bet yet!" Some still insisted on seeking abuse, Zhang Jian spoke at the crucial moment.
Yan Fei was greatly amused; earlier, he was afraid they wouldn’t call, so he deliberately mentioned the bet to provoke them. He didn’t expect Xiaoning didn’t even care and was prepared to call directly.
This he had to admit, he overthought it. For these young people with some background, the normal fear of false call reporting probably didn’t even exist for them.
But Zhang Jian however insisted on the bet terms, really... asking for trouble!
"Bet a hundred push-ups!" Xiaoning glared at him, holding the phone with dark circles. "Whoever fails to complete is a little dog!"
"Aren’t you taking advantage here!" Zhang Jian chuckled. "Alright, I won’t fuss with you. Just a hundred, who’s in?"
"Count me in..." Xiaohe and Old Cui sequentially said, after which they exchanged a smile, with a hint of mutual appreciation.
"Count... then I’ll be a referee!" The Fifth Young Master Guo originally wanted to join, but changed his statement halfway.
He suddenly realized, if he bet he’d be standing against Brother Fei! Speaking of which, Boss Yan always liked to do unexpected things; standing against him wasn’t appropriate if he won, and losing... a hundred push-ups weren’t a small undertaking!
"I’ll be a referee too!" Brother Le chuckled. "Xiaoning, you go and make the call! By the way, better ask the captain where we are, or else you can’t inform people!"
"Let’s go, go ask now." This was way more interesting than fishing, everyone was very enthusiastic.
...
"Why hasn’t anyone come yet?" Half an hour later, Xiaoning looked at the sea a bit disappointed and sighed. "They are taking too long, if they don’t come, that ship’s gonna get away!"
In fact, not much time had passed, the yacht, now under a few people’s direction, was now slowing down and slightly adjusting its course, circling the spot where the fishing boat was visible. Everyone was waiting for results, and with no sign of the inspection team’s boat, impatience was inevitable.
"Here they come!" Yan Fei shouted from above.
Everyone immediately perked up, "Where?"
"Over by the fishing boat, they’re getting close!" Yan Fei pointed over there.
Everyone had apparently misjudged the direction, as they were directly heading toward the fishing boat.
Right away, a group held their breath, those with binoculars used them, while others waited anxiously, gazing in that direction.
Soon enough, they saw the white inspection team boats close in on the fishing boat. Not one ship, but three from different directions, directly surrounding the fishing boat!
The fishing boat seemed to have a noticeable intention to flee, but clearly, they had no chance.
With a bang, a shot was fired in the air as a warning, leaving the fishing boat to obediently await the three boats boarding it. Watching groups of soldiers with guns board, pretty much sealed the outcome!
On the yacht, with that shot, Xiaoning leapt up, "Haha, seems I was right after all. A hundred push-ups, everyone get started!"
Such joy, this was a sign of great success at the beginning!
