Chasing His Scentless Mate
Chapter 276 New Job
CHAPTER 276: CHAPTER 276 NEW JOB
Ava’s POV
"Listen here, bitch, your little puppy is locked up in a cell. Go find your puppy now. But leave me alone! I’m done!"I shot back.
"Watch how you talk to me, you slut." Cybele pointed her finger in my face. I wanted to break it.
"Get that disgusting finger out of my face," I said slowly and quietly. "Want to know what happened? I’ll tell you. You filled Isaac’s head with lies until he came after me. When he couldn’t talk to me here, he went to my house. He threatened me with a knife to my mother’s throat."
"That’s a lie! Isaac would never do that. You made him angry." Cybele was crying and blaming me.
"I made him angry? Bitch, did you know I have a restraining order? He has to stay at least five hundred meters away from me. No, you didn’t know. And what did you do? He told me himself. You kept calling him. You filled his head with stories because I’m with someone else. And yes, I am with another boyfriend. I don’t want to hear that crazy guy’s name anymore."
"He needed to know what a whore you are!" Cybele raised her voice. "This is all your fault. You keep flirting with him and then act innocent."
"Don’t try to act crazy, Cybele!" I was losing my patience. "You want Isaac? He’s all yours. Go chase after him. Take advantage that he’s locked up and can’t run away from you." I turned around and walked to the store. I didn’t want to give that crazy woman any more attention.
I went back to the store. I saw that new beautiful dresses and shoes had arrived. I thought of Eleanor and Caroline. I called them to come see. I wanted to set aside some pieces that would look great on them. They came in the early evening. They immediately put Cybele in her place when she tried to steal my customers.
I gave them the dresses. The girls went into the fitting rooms. I bent down to get some shoes. When I stood up, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Joseph walked into the store with Draven, Nate, and Ryan right behind him. The four powerful werewolves got everyone’s attention immediately. Every female employee nearby turned their heads so fast I thought they might get whiplash.
"Oh my god, is that Alpha Draven Thorne?" Laura whispered while fixing her hair. "What the hell are they doing here?"
The men walked through the store. They completely ignored all the hungry stares from my coworkers. Joseph looked straight at me with this playful smile that made my heart skip a beat. I could feel butterflies going crazy in my stomach as they got closer.
"Hello, beautiful," Joseph said quietly so only I could hear.
Before I could say anything back, Cybele appeared out of nowhere. She threw herself between me and Joseph with this desperate look on her face.
"Welcome to our store again, Alpha Joseph," she said in this sickeningly sweet voice. "I would absolutely love to help you with whatever you need today."
Joseph’s face got a little cold. "Thanks, but I came here to see Ava."
Cybele’s fake smile started cracking. "Oh, but I’m the senior sales associate here. Maybe I could..."
"He already said he’s here for me," I cut her off. I felt this amazing rush of satisfaction watching her face fall. "Why don’t you go help that customer over there? She looks totally lost."
Cybele gave me this death glare before she walked away. Joseph laughed and put his hand on my lower back.
"Your coworkers are really something else," he said under his breath.
"That’s putting it nicely," I said back.
"What are you guys even doing here?" I asked. I was super aware that my coworkers were drooling nearby. Cynthia had already pulled out her phone and was definitely texting everyone she knew about the high ranking Alphas in our store.
"We came to steal you away," Joseph said with a wink. "Your shift ends in twenty minutes, right? We’re taking you out to dinner."
I spotted Eleanor and Caroline coming out of the fitting rooms from the corner of my eye. They both stopped dead in their tracks when they saw our visitors.
Eleanor said to Joseph, "You really like having people follow us around."
Joseph smiled and pointed at Draven. "I’m not necessarily the mastermind here."
"I need to finish helping my customers first," I told Joseph while gesturing toward the girls. "Then I’ll be ready to go."
"No rush at all," Draven said smoothly. "We can wait."
That’s when my manager decided to show up. Her eyes went huge when she realized who these powerful Alphas were. "Alpha Joseph! Alpha Draven! Oh wow, what an incredible honor! Is there anything at all we can do for you?"
Joseph kept his hand on my waist. "We’re just waiting for Ava to get off work."
The expression on my manager’s face was absolutely priceless. First confusion, then understanding, then total shock as it hit her that I was somehow connected to these super important men.
"Of course!" she said, stumbling over her words. "Ava, why don’t you just clock out early? I can totally take care of your customers for you."
"That’s really not necessary," I replied. "I’ll finish up the right way."
After I helped Caroline and Eleanor buy their stuff, I grabbed my purse from the back room and met up with the guys by the entrance.
"Ready to go?" Joseph asked, taking my hand like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"I’m absolutely starving," I admitted.
We ended up picking a restaurant in the mall.
"So Ava," Draven said after our food came. "Joseph mentioned you studied business in college?"
I nodded and took a drink of water. "Business administration with a minor in marketing."
"That’s really impressive," he said. "And now you’re working retail?"
Something about the way he said it made me feel a little defensive. "It’s just temporary. The job market totally sucks for wolfless Omegas, even when you have a degree."
Draven leaned forward and put his elbows on the table. "That’s actually exactly why I wanted to talk to you. My executive assistant quit last week. I really need someone smart and reliable to replace her."
"Wait, are you actually offering me a job?"
"If you want it," he said. "The job pays way more than what you’re making now, plus full benefits and much better hours."
Joseph squeezed my knee under the table.
"But why me?" I asked suspiciously.
"Joseph says amazing things about you," Draven replied. "And I trust what he thinks. Plus, I did some checking around. Your professors at university couldn’t stop talking about how hard you work and how smart you are."
My heart started racing like crazy. This was such an incredible opportunity. It was exactly the kind of job I’d been dreaming about since graduation. But I couldn’t stop wondering if Joseph had something to do with this.
"When would I need to start?"
"Monday if that works for you. I can have HR send you all the paperwork tomorrow if you’re interested."
I took a really deep breath. The idea of never having to deal with Cybele and all her drama again sounded absolutely amazing. Plus, working for an Alpha like Draven would probably open doors I couldn’t even imagine right now.
"I’m interested," I said finally. "Really, really interested."
