CHAPTER 158: 154 BAD TEMPER, MONTHLY TICKET 690 ADDITIONAL CHAPTERS
Upon being caught, the woman stopped running and instead turned around and yelled loudly: "Oh my, someone is trying to snatch my baby, help, help!"
Li Xianglu’s eyes widened, but she didn’t let go as Qin Xi also caught up and obstructed the woman.
By then, a crowd had gathered, pointing and murmuring.
The woman, clearly a local, spoke fluent Minnan dialect, explaining to those around her that she was just playing with her child when someone tried to kidnap him. She ran in fear, only for these crazed pursuers to catch up, and then she burst into wrenching sobs.
Li Xianglu, angered, pointed at her and explained in simple Minnan dialect: "No, I’m not the kidnapper, this woman is. I know this child, I saw him at dinner with his grandma, and Grandma is right there behind us."
How did Li Xianglu know some Minnan? From listening to too many Cantonese songs—a karaoke enthusiast who’d pick up lyrics now and then.
Upon hearing this, the woman holding the child cried even louder. Amidst the tugging, Grandma Su, panting and pointing at the child, exclaimed, "My dear boy, Grandma’s here."
Seeing his grandma, the child cried to be let down, bending over to her.
The crowd quickly turned against the woman, accusing her of child trafficking. Soon, the sound of police whistles could be heard; the woman threw the child onto Li Xianglu and twisted away, running until she disappeared. Li Xianglu, holding the crying child, was taken aback. That woman suddenly ran away so fast?
Grandma Su hurriedly took her grandson, calmed him down, and he stopped crying, sobbing instead. As the crowd dispersed and the police arrived, she quickly walked away with the child, uninterested in reporting the incident.
Seeing Grandma Su waving at her, Li Xianglu and Qin Xi walked over.
Li Xianglu sized up Grandma Su again—her hair was grizzled but well-kept and glossy.
Though elderly, she maintained a straight posture.
Her neck and forehead lacked the typical wrinkles of old age, her complexion was rosy, and she radiated a great presence, her phoenix eyes particularly sparkling.
Li Xianglu grinned and said when Grandma Su was about to speak, "Grandma Su, that was quite a performance, wasn’t it?"
Caught off guard, Grandma Su blinked and asked, "What did you say? I don’t understand."
Qin Xi looked confused, too. "How come it’s Grandma Su? I thought she wasn’t available today."
Li Xianglu, seeing the act continue, glanced around and muttered, "Where did Xu Xi go? Has he disappeared?"
Seeing the act was up, Su Yan stopped pretending, waved to someone aside, and soon five people appeared—among them, one holding a child left first. The remaining four, two men and two women, stood protectively around.
Grandma Su glanced at her clothes in distaste and said, "Hurry up and change these clothes, I really can’t stand it; wearing this makes me feel like I’m getting age spots!"
Speaking thus, the four people guided the elderly lady out. After a few steps, she turned to see Li Xianglu and Qin Xi still standing there and said irritably, "What are you waiting for, come on, aren’t you hot?"
Li Xianglu was so annoyed she clenched her teeth; this old lady was not lovable at all, she didn’t want to like her anymore!
Qin Xi now understood what was happening and couldn’t help but laugh and cry as she pulled Li Xianglu to follow.
Two cars, the two of them were invited onto the first car, while the old lady went directly into the second car.
The car started, first entering the city area, then onto the highway around the mountain, and forty minutes later, it stopped in front of a villa. The doors, covered in white suits, were opened by two staff members, and the car drove straight in.
Li Xianglu saw the towering trees around, noticing that it was a neatly planned garden villa.
The old lady got out of the car and went straight into the house without paying them any mind.
Li Xianglu looked around, noticing the exquisite decorations blending Eastern and Western elements, giving a vibe reminiscent of Hong Kong’s movies from the eighties and nineties.
A man in a white short-sleeved shirt and bow tie soon led them into the house. They changed into new slippers at the entrance and then sat down on the sofa. The bow-tie man asked what they’d like to drink before leaving, and shortly after, a woman in a white coat brought over a tray, placing a glass of juice and a cup of Longjing tea before quietly stepping back.
Even Li Xianglu, who came from the future, had never seen such a scene. After a long run, she was quite thirsty. She decided to drink something first.
Li Xianglu grabbed the orange juice and started drinking. In one breath, half the glass was gone. She licked her lips; the freshly squeezed orange juice tasted great.
Qin Xi took a few sips of the freshly brewed green tea, nodding her head in appreciation. The tea was much better than the one Grandpa Li had, from who knows where.
After quenching their thirst, Li Xianglu put down her glass and started looking around. It was a large living room, with leather sofas that were handmade, and even the rivets had professional coloring.
A huge crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, shining brightly. To the right was a dining room, and to the left was a corridor which seemed to lead to the backyard.
At this moment, a person came down the stairs, dressed in a traditional dark green cheongsam. Unlike Li Xianglu’s modified casual cheongsam, this one was very formal, with properly tailored slits and trims. She wore a diamond earring and a Vacheron Constantin watch on her wrist, and no other jewelry.
Li Xianglu stood up when she saw someone approaching, looking with interest.
Su Yan neatly adjusted her hair beneath her ears and lifted her head to see both of them standing. Smiling, she said, "Sit, please, make yourselves at home. I’ve already had people fetch your things, you’ll be staying here tonight."
Li Xianglu frowned.
Su Yan’s lips curled into a light smile. "Why, are you still mad? I was just playing with you."
Li Xianglu couldn’t help but say irritably, "We’ll talk about this matter later. Why didn’t you ask for our opinion before sending someone to fetch our things?" So domineering.
Despite her graying hair, Su Yan was well-maintained and showed few signs of aging. Ignoring the fuming Li Xianglu, she lazily sat on the sofa and said to the woman in the white coat standing by, "English tea, half-sugar."
The woman respectfully left, and Li Xianglu, seeing that her words were ignored and the other party casually ordering a drink, sat down huffily, glaring at the woman across from her.
Su Yan was briefly startled, finding her reaction amusing, she chuckled, "You girl, why such a bad temper?"
Li Xianglu pouted, wondering who really had the bad temper.
