Chubby Mommy: Scheming Daddy, Surrender Now!
Chapter 12: Investigate Her
CHAPTER 12: CHAPTER 12: INVESTIGATE HER
Ethan Sterling thoroughly lost his patience, shot a cold glance at Rhonda Sullivan, then turned and said to Ruby Sullivan, "I’ll take you to the hospital."
Ruby Sullivan paused for a moment, glanced subtly at Rhonda Sullivan, retracted her gaze, and nodded slightly, "That would be kind of you, Mr. Sterling."
Rhonda Sullivan suddenly panicked, instinctively trying to grab Ethan Sterling’s hand, but he avoided her, his eyes as cold as ice. Ruby Sullivan reached out towards him and deeply looked at her as she turned around, her eyes filled with piercing coldness. Even from far away, Rhonda Sullivan’s sobbing could still be heard.
"Isn’t it rather ungentlemanly of Mr. Sterling to abandon Miss Sullivan to take me?"
Ruby Sullivan’s voice was indifferent.
Ethan Sterling’s expression was still somewhat gloomy; upon hearing her comment, he glanced at her, "Miss Wenny, being our company’s specially invited perfumer, taking you to the hospital is part of our sincerity."
Rhonda Sullivan sneered inwardly, but outwardly appeared even more fragile. Whenever Ethan Sterling wanted, he could effortlessly craft beautiful words.
He could abandon a wife of three years and speak coldly to Rhonda Sullivan, who had been by his side for five.
Such a sentimental yet heartless man, encountering him, one wonders whether it’s a boon or bane for women.
Her ankle injury wasn’t too severe; she had purposely fallen heavily to perfect her act. It was manageable while standing still, but when they arrived at the hospital and got out of the car, she found it hard to keep her balance.
She gritted her teeth, unwilling to ask for help, her demeanor light and unperturbed, yet suddenly her foot gave way, and she was about to fall forward, then abruptly fell into an embrace.
Ethan Sterling’s eyes were bright as stars, reflecting her, his large hand tightly clasped around her waist, the heat of his touch felt even through the thin fabric.
Time stood still for five seconds, yet his hand showed no sign of releasing.
Feeling as if stung by an ant, Ruby Sullivan sensed the temperature rising at the spot he touched, and finally spoke with a stern expression, "Mr. Sterling, can you let go of me now?"
Ethan Sterling’s eyes flickered with a trace of mischief, but his expression gave nothing away, and he pretended to loosen his grip. Ruby Sullivan found herself feeling light, yet her foot was powerless, instinctively holding onto the man’s strong arms.
Suddenly realizing the man was toying with her.
Anger rising, her eyes widened, she shook him off and attempted to walk away, only to feel stabbing pain in her feet; she bit her lip silently.
Ethan Sterling’s eyes darkened; her stubborn demeanor again brought to mind a certain woman. He took a deep breath, and spoke in a low voice, "Miss Wenny is planning to attend the launch in two days supported by crutches?"
Ruby Sullivan bit her lip, this man’s mouth was still as venomous as ever.
The next moment, Ethan Sterling suddenly picked her up in his arms and strode forward.
"Ethan Sterling, you..."
The man’s features were unparalleled, his expression unreadable against the light, only the burning strength in his arms as he held her.
The man spoke calmly, "I hope Miss Wenny won’t delay our time any further."
Ruby Sullivan paused in silence, ultimately not resisting anymore.
Her demeanor calm, though her tightly pressed lips betrayed a hint of impatience.
For some reason, Ethan Sterling’s mood suddenly brightened considerably.
At the emergency room, after a series of tests, it was confirmed that there were no major issues, just a need to take medication, apply ointment, and rest for a few days.
With the prescription in hand, Ruby Sullivan gritted her teeth, ready to retrieve the medication herself.
Today was a significant breakthrough with Ethan Sterling taking her to the hospital; as for the rest, the young master who had never done a day’s work seemed unlikely to know where the pharmacy door was.
However, in the very next moment, the prescription slip was suddenly snatched away.
"Stay here and don’t move," the man threw this remark and walked away.
Only Ruby Sullivan was left looking at his back, bewildered.
Approximately ten minutes later, Ethan Sterling returned.
He held cotton swabs and antiseptic, walked over, and looked down at her.
"You..."
"Shoes off." Before Ruby Sullivan could speak, the man’s steady voice echoed.
Realizing he was about to administer the medication, Ruby Sullivan backed away in reluctance, "Mr. Sterling, there’s no need to trouble you for such a minor task."
But before she could react, the man directly squatted down, took off her shoes, and then gently picked up her foot, examining her ankle.
The man lowered his gaze, showing unprecedented seriousness.
Ruby Sullivan suddenly saw a flicker of understanding as to why she fell for Ethan Sterling at first sight.
This side of Ethan Sterling was one she had never seen before.
If this man wished to treat someone well, he possessed enough charm to eventually make you fall into his gentle embrace one day.
Just like now.
Unable to discern whether her heart was bitter or sorrowful, Ruby Sullivan suddenly recalled how she used to foolishly wait for his return, always staying at home because she didn’t like going out, thus never knowing what he looked like when earnest. "Does Mr. Sterling often assist women with applying medicine?" She asked, trying to steady her tone.
"You’re the first one." Ethan Sterling replied without even lifting his head.
"The woman Mr. Sterling loves must be very happy." Ruby Sullivan faintly smiled.
The moment she voiced this, Ethan Sterling’s hand suddenly paused.
But he quickly regained his composure, masking his emotions so Ruby Sullivan didn’t notice his reaction.
He spoke, his voice calm, without any change in tone.
"Really? I often feel that I haven’t been good enough to her."
The man’s reply left Ruby Sullivan silent, unexpectedly discovering that he was so deeply affectionate towards Rhonda Sullivan when he couldn’t even spare a glance for her all those years ago.
Her eyes turned cold, Ruby Sullivan withdrew her foot and put on her shoes, "Give me the medication, Mr. Sterling, I’ll attend the launch on schedule, you should go back and console your beloved."
After speaking, Ruby Sullivan no longer looked at his expression, took the medication, and limped out the door.
Behind her, the man frowned slightly as he dialed the phone, "Howard, how is the investigation on Wenny’s background going?"
