CHAPTER 23: CHAPTER 23: LATEST NEWS

Brandon Sullivan brought Rhonda Sullivan home from the orphanage, hoping that the girl, who lost her mother early, could have a companion. But he didn’t expect that he raised a heartless, ungrateful wolf beside him.

Ruby Sullivan’s view of people likely inherited her father’s poor judgment. She poured all her heart into Ethan Sterling, believing that marriage lasts a lifetime. Love wasn’t important; as long as they were together, her fervor would warm even a stubborn stone.

Ruby Sullivan reined in her thoughts, smirking coldly. Her years of experiences seemed like heaven had its eyes on her.

She finally calmed herself down, didn’t rush to drive, but dialed an international call, "Master, Honey’s matter has been exposed, I’m worried Ethan Sterling will find something out."

Though she had changed Thea Sullivan’s name to Melody Wallace when remaking identities, anything with records made her uneasy.

The man on the other end who gave her a new identity was Dr. L.

"I watched the livestream, but there’s a good solution." He casually smirked, his almond-shaped eyes exuded cunning.

"What solution?"

"Marry me." He answered naturally, "Anyway, there’re quite a few people questioning why I took you as a disciple; this way, it solves all the problems." The afternoon sun in Bellaza was just right; he toyed with the exquisitely crafted Italian coffee cup, feeling more sunny than the actual sunshine.

Ruby Sullivan sighed, "Master, I’m not in the mood to joke with you, in short... first help me clear Honey’s name change records."

Dr. L squinted at the window after hanging up, when did a master ever need a disciple to teach?

Back home, Ruby Sullivan felt utterly exhausted, after seeing off Sasha Shaw who helped babysit, she lacked energy even to say goodbye, "No need to thank you, be careful on the road."

Sasha couldn’t help but hug her, "You should get some rest earlier too."

Ruby Sullivan tiptoed into the room to check on the already sleeping Honey, quietly vowing to protect her no matter what!

The next morning, at the CEO’s office, as Ethan Sterling just sat down, Howard knocked on the door to enter.

"Mr. Sterling, the journalist causing trouble yesterday is an entertainment reporter from a studio, only admitted to acting for money, refused to disclose their employer, but claimed the entrance certificate was provided by the employer." Howard probed, "Do you want us to continue investigating?" To get an entrance certificate, it’s likely someone from within.

"No need."

Yesterday, Wenny’s words also made him suspicious. He didn’t expect that a casual remark to Rhonda Sullivan would lead her to admit hiring the reporter. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have obediently gone to reconcile with Wenny.

Thinking of Rhonda Sullivan, his expression turned grim. When did she become so foolish?

Howard continued reporting, "Mr. Sterling, upon verification, Wenny is indeed married, her husband is named Loris, who is Dr. L—the successor of The Lawson Clan." She placed down the document in her hand.

Ethan Sterling glanced briefly at it, his gaze lingered on the words "married" for a moment and frowned, "Are you sure?" Howard nodded, "Wenny unexpectedly appeared, and there have been rumors questioning the purity of her relationship with Dr. L, being marital partners seems plausible, except..."

"Speak!" Ethan Sterling demanded suddenly, feeling inexplicably irritable.

"Earlier when investigating Wenny’s information, there was no record of her marriage online, but this time it was found quite easily."

He picked up the file, flipping through a few pages, unable to focus on a single word, and eventually tossed the file aside, "You can leave."

A peculiar feeling emerged in Ethan Sterling’s mind, unsure whether it was relief or disappointment. Logically, whether that woman was married or not should have no relation to him.

But for some reason, at the moment he learned that woman was a wife, it felt as if a mountain pressed down on his heart, stifled heavily. He preferred to believe that what she said at the press conference was merely to silence the reporters.

Ethan Sterling’s fist clenched inch by inch, a shadow passed through his eyes.

At night, after showering and preparing to sleep, Seth Sterling saw Ethan Sterling sitting on his bed and paused, "Anything the matter?"

Ethan Sterling beckoned, "Come, let’s communicate some father-son feelings."

Seth frowned, shuffled over with small steps, suspiciously studying dad’s face.

"Have you had any fun with Melody recently?"

Seth raised an eyebrow, eyed him without speaking.

Ethan Sterling’s smile grew stiff, he decided not to beat around the bush, "Has she ever talked about her dad?"

"No." Seth said, puzzled, "Why are you asking this?"

"You’ve finally got a friend, I naturally want to be concerned."

Seth’s mind spun briefly, "If her dad is very poor, would you stop us being friends?"

Ethan Sterling froze, unsure what this kid was thinking.

Seeing this as an assent, Seth scoffed, "Adults are indeed snobs, deciding who to be friends with is my freedom, you have no right to interfere. Dad, I’m sleepy, good night." He finished, ignoring Ethan Sterling sitting on the bed, forcibly pulled the quilt and crawled inside, turning his back on him.

Ethan Sterling rose with a chill on his face, "What snob? Who taught you that word? I’m your dad!"

Seth turned to glance at him, "Dad, turn off the light when you leave, thanks." He said and turned back again.

Ethan Sterling left, defeated by his son, angry and huffing, but recalling Honey clinging to him, hoping to find answers from the child.

He couldn’t figure out why he wanted to uncover Wenny’s secrets, but being kept in the dark felt truly awful; he didn’t like it!

The next morning, Ethan Sterling was driving his son to kindergarten, coincidentally saw Wenny bidding farewell to Melody, Seth obviously quickened his pace, greeted Wenny before she left.

Angered, Ethan Sterling pressed the car window button before she glanced over, instructing the driver to head to the company.

It seemed his education of Seth was insufficient; how could he be swayed by a few meals?

Suddenly hearing the phone ring, he saw that it was the primary physician for Brandon Sullivan calling, he frowned, "What’s up?"

"Someone came to transfer Brandon Sullivan, currently processing paperwork."

"Who is it?"

"A man, carrying the daughter of Brandon Sullivan’s authorization, all documents are in order, the hospital can’t forcibly keep him."

"Delay them, I’m heading over now." Ethan Sterling hung up, ordered sternly, "To Mercy Hospital, and hurry."

"Yes, Mr. Sterling."

At the kindergarten entrance, Seth walked in side by side with Melody; hesitating, he couldn’t help but ask, "Melody, what’s your dad’s occupation? Why haven’t you mentioned him before?"

Honey suddenly stopped, lowered her head, and fell silent.

Noticing, Seth backtracked to her, asking, "What’s wrong?"

Honey pursed her lips, raised her little face pitifully, "I don’t have a dad..."

Seth paused, patted her head, comforted, "It’s okay, I don’t have a mom." He said and took her hand, "Let’s go, to class."

Ruby Sullivan watched both kids walk away, not hearing their conversation, but aware that Seth was the son of Ethan Sterling and Ruby Sullivan, her feelings were complicated. As she headed to her car, she received a call from Faye Truman, "Things aren’t going smoothly, the hospital won’t release him without your presence."

"I’m heading over now." Ruby Sullivan’s heart skipped.

"Alright, be careful."

Ruby Sullivan dashed to her car in a small run, worried and anxious.

Though, even without her involvement, presumably Faye Truman could take strong measures to bring her father away, but he was still in a coma, she was truly afraid something might go wrong!
