CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: SETH STERLING’S LITTLE SCHEMES

Ruby Sullivan heard the door closing before she opened her eyes again, filled with hatred.

This time she returned for her daughter. As for Ethan Sterling and The Sullivan Group, if she could take them back, she would; if not, so be it. Now she had the ability to give her daughter and father a good life, it wasn’t as important anymore.

But seeing Rhonda Sullivan so jumpy showed that her relationship with Ethan Sterling wasn’t very strong either. Thinking about how attentive Ethan Sterling had been to her these days, perhaps Sasha Shaw was right; Mr. Sterling really does have plenty of time for beautiful female employees!

Humans are visual creatures, and she couldn’t guarantee she wasn’t first attracted to Ethan Sterling’s looks back then. But then she thought about how Ethan Sterling refused to even look at her a second time because she was overweight, let alone touch her, and her heart grew bitter.

She never blamed him for not liking her; what she blamed was that after he agreed to marry her, he never treated her as a wife.

What would a man like Ethan Sterling do after being played by a woman?

Ruby Sullivan thought the answer might be quite interesting.

The Sterling Family, Ethan Sterling and Rhonda Sullivan’s cars drove into the garage one after the other.

Ethan Sterling entered, took off his suit, threw it on the sofa, and sat down heavily, raising his eyes to look at Rhonda Sullivan who followed him, "Why were you at the hospital?"

"I..."

"Speak!"

Rhonda Sullivan was startled awake, knowing he was truly angry, "Seth said you might have gone to the hospital, so I was worried about your health and followed your car."

Actually, what Seth had said was, Dad went to the hospital to see Auntie Wenny.

Ethan Sterling rubbed his temples, "I warned you last time not to trouble her anymore, pack your things and leave immediately."

Rhonda Sullivan panicked, "Ethan, it’s past midnight now, where do you expect me to go?"

"Mr. Sullivan, do you need to ask me where to go?" Ethan Sterling sneered, "If you don’t mind the servants forcing you out, then get out yourself!"

Rhonda Sullivan thought about the years of humble companionship, and her heart turned cold, "I heard Ruby took Dad away, why didn’t you tell me?"

"You didn’t need me to tell you."

"Do you still suspect that Dad’s stroke is related to me?"

"I’m tired." Ethan Sterling stood up and headed upstairs, casually instructing the servant standing by, "See Miss Sullivan out."

"No need!" Rhonda Sullivan turned and slammed the door on her way out.

Awakened, Seth stood in the doorway, watching as Ethan Sterling walked over with a dark expression, feeling somewhat afraid.

He had never seen his father look so grim.

Ethan Sterling stopped next to him, took a deep breath, and tried not to show his emotions, "Go to sleep."

Seth pressed his lips together, hesitantly asking, "Honey said she’s picking up her mom from the hospital tomorrow, will we..."

"Go to sleep!" Ethan Sterling raised his voice slightly, then quickly walked to the bedroom.

Seth stayed silent, watching him slam the door shut, closing his eyes in fear. It seemed there was no way they could go pick up Mrs. Wallace from the hospital tomorrow. He sighed with some regret, turned, and went back to his room to sleep, planning to call Melody Wallace early the next morning.

The next day, after Ruby Sullivan completed a full check-up, the doctor gave her a few reminders and discharged her.

It happened to be Saturday, so Honey didn’t need to go to kindergarten. She came with Sasha Shaw to pick her up from the hospital. As the three waited for the elevator to go downstairs, they didn’t expect the elevator doors to open and see Ethan Sterling and Seth inside.

"Brother Sterling, didn’t you say you couldn’t come?" Honey was surprised and delighted, quickly rushing over to grab his hand.

Seth glanced at Ethan Sterling and said honestly, "After I called you, Dad became available." He had spoken loudly on the phone only to make sure Honey could hear him, not deliberately to be overheard by Dad!

Ruby Sullivan was a bit confused, while Sasha Shaw rolled her eyes, showing no good face to Ethan Sterling.

Ethan Sterling raised his hand to press the elevator button, "Come in first."

Ruby Sullivan tugged on Sasha Shaw’s arm, and the latter reluctantly pushed the wheelchair with Ruby Sullivan into the elevator.

Except for Honey, who smiled like a flower, the other four carried some kind of concern.

They had just exited the elevator when Sasha Shaw’s phone rang. She was working as a styling consultant for a production team and had originally scheduled a meeting today but had taken a temporary leave. Seeing the call from the production team, she was a bit impatient.

"I’m picking up a friend from the hospital, and I won’t be able to make it until the afternoon, no matter how urgent it is."

Ruby Sullivan glanced at Ethan Sterling, then turned to tug on Sasha Shaw, "Mr. Sterling can take me back."

Sasha Shaw frowned, glanced at Ethan Sterling standing three steps away, and reluctantly said, "Okay, I’ll be there in half an hour." She hung up the phone, gave Ethan Sterling a vicious look, and said worriedly to Ruby Sullivan, "Call me immediately if anything happens."

"Don’t worry, drive safely." Ruby Sullivan smiled and winked at her.

The two had already talked over the phone last night. Although seeing Ruby Sullivan today made her more confident after seeing Ethan Sterling, Sasha Shaw was still worried. How many people have burned themselves playing with fire? She was genuinely worried her friend would fall twice for the same man.

Sasha Shaw sighed, "Got it, then I’ll go ahead." She still didn’t spare Ethan Sterling another glance, lest she disgust herself.

Seth grew curious, "Dad, why does Auntie Shaw dislike you so much?"

Ethan Sterling slightly furrowed his brows, "Probably because I’m too handsome." He turned to push Ruby Sullivan’s wheelchair, "What do you want to eat for lunch?"

"I’m not familiar with this place either, Mr. Sterling can decide."

"Honey kept saying she wants to eat the dishes Mama Bennett makes!" Seth suddenly interjected, blinking hard at Honey.

Honey tilted her head in confusion, just about to speak when Seth stepped forward two steps, came to Ruby Sullivan’s side, "Auntie Wenny, I also want to show Honey my new toys."

Hearing this, Honey’s eyes lit up, "Mom, can we go to Brother Sterling’s house for lunch?" She then hugged Ethan Sterling’s leg, "Uncle Sterling, is that okay?"

Every time Ruby Sullivan saw Seth, she felt an inexplicable closeness, but seeing his eager eyes, she didn’t know how to refuse. However, thinking of that house and Mama Bennett, she felt a headache coming on.

Mama Bennett was an old maid of The Sullivan Family, practically watched her grow up. If she was recognized... Ruby Sullivan felt a bit guilty.

Ethan Sterling curled his lips meaningfully, patting Honey’s head, "Then let’s go to Uncle’s house to eat." With that, he pushed Ruby Sullivan toward the barrier-free lane.

"Wouldn’t it be bad if Miss Sullivan found out?"

"She left last night." Seth answered first.

Ethan Sterling glanced at the back of that kid’s head, slightly frowning.

Ruby Sullivan secretly laughed in her heart, keeping up her innocent act, "Seems like I made Miss Sullivan misunderstand..."

"You don’t need to think too much."

Ethan Sterling didn’t want her to feel guilty, but in Ruby Sullivan’s ears, his words changed their meaning.

His tone of siding with Rhonda Sullivan made a nameless fire rise in Ruby Sullivan’s heart, immediately feeling a bit displeased, "In that case, I won’t be polite."

Seth sighed helplessly, feeling very disappointed with his father’s performance.

Afterward, Ethan Sterling helped Ruby Sullivan sit comfortably in the back seat and even thoughtfully fastened her seatbelt, but couldn’t get a proper glance from the beauty. Ruby Sullivan said "thank you" without any spirit.

Honey, however, was incredibly happy, asking all the way about Seth’s toy collection.
