CHAPTER 44: CHAPTER 44: THE SINCERITY I WANT

In the evening, there was no sound from Ruby Sullivan and Ethan Sterling’s rooms. Mama Bennett didn’t dare go to call them, instead, she attended to the two little ones having their meal, waiting until Seth took Honey back to the room, then carried fruit over to them.

Over the years, she had always taken care of Seth’s daily life. Although the boy, like Ethan, had a cold personality, she knew he would always remember her instructions.

Mama Bennett placed the fruit platter on the table and asked with a smile, "Honey, which room would you like to sleep in tonight?"

Honey hugged Seth tightly, "I want to stay with Brother Sterling."

Seth frowned, looking at her helplessly, "How many times have I told you, boys and girls can’t share a room."

Honey pouted, "Then I’ll stay with Mom."

Seth thought Ruby was still sleeping, and if Honey went over now, she’d definitely wake her, so he had to change his tune, "Alright, why don’t you discuss it with Auntie Wenny tomorrow, and just stay with me for tonight."

"Yes!" Honey cheered like Seth, spreading her little hands waiting for a high-five.

Seth broke into a cold sweat but eventually raised his hand slowly.

Mama Bennett found the two children very interesting, her eyes full of affection. She crouched down and instructed Seth, "Young Master, Honey is a girl, you need to protect her. If anything comes up, let me know, and try to keep your distance from Mrs. Jewel, got it?"

Honey blinked her big eyes, "Who’s Mrs. Jewel, and why should we stay away from her?"

Seth pulled her arm and nodded towards Mama Bennett, "I understand, I will protect Honey."

Over the past few days interacting with Honey, Mama Bennett realized her personality was completely opposite to Seth’s, predicting she might ask why. So before entering, she had already prepared a distracting answer, but Seth seemed to understand everything without her explaining.

The child had always been thoughtful, and his assurance gave her peace of mind.

Mrs. Jewel was Rhonda Sullivan’s informant placed in the Sterling Family, something Mama Bennett had long known. However, due to her duty as a servant, she never mentioned it to Ethan. But now, Honey’s matter likely involved Rhonda, so she had to be cautious.

Though both were young ladies of the Sullivan Family, Rhonda was, after all, a child taken in. Plus, Mama Bennett had watched them grow up, and from her understanding of the two, she naturally leaned towards Ruby. She had never doubted anything Ruby said.

On the other side, after Rhonda learned that Wenny was using the opportunity to bring the child into the Sterling Family, she angrily smashed her phone.

When she heard Honey had a blood coagulation disorder, almost resulting in a fatal incident, she worried. Her original intent was merely to teach that woman a lesson, not to hurt anyone, but now, she regretted being too soft-hearted; if she had directly had someone scar her face, she wouldn’t dare flaunt herself now!

She heard Ethan was already sending people to investigate past events, fearing exposure, she dared not act further. Frowning, she paced several circles in the living room, suddenly struck with an idea, and immediately instructed her secretary to book a red-eye flight to Gallia, not wanting to waste a single minute!

Monday morning, Ruby woke up in an unfamiliar room, unable to fully believe it.

Suddenly, she heard several knocks on the door, followed by Honey coming in. Seeing Ruby was already sitting up, Honey happily ran over, climbed onto the bed, and snuggled into her arms, "Mom, you’re awake! Mr. Sterling told me to call you for breakfast."

Ruby took a deep breath, completely facing reality; she really had moved into his home.

She freshened up quickly and, dressed in her nightwear, sat down at the dining table, "Morning, Mr. Sterling."

Ethan Sterling, already dressed neatly, raised an eyebrow at her casual appearance, "Why aren’t you wearing makeup?"

Thinking that Rhonda had almost never shown her bare face in front of him, he found Ruby’s expression increasingly strange; aren’t women particular about hiding their bare faces?

Ruby was surprised, "It’s inconvenient to eat with makeup on, I usually finish my meal before changing clothes and applying makeup." She thought for a moment, "Did Mr. Sterling get scared by my bare face?"

Ethan shook his head, "There’s no difference."

Ruby couldn’t help but smile, "Thank you, Mr. Sterling, for the compliment."

Ethan glanced at her, unsure of what compliment he had given, but seeing her smiling eyes showed she was in a good mood, so he insincerely said "Mm," and didn’t correct her.

Ruby thought about Honey’s situation and believed it was safer to let her stay home, suggesting, "Honey, why don’t you stay home today? I’ll help you skip school. Staying here means you can see Seth every day, no need to worry."

Honey’s face immediately fell, "But Brother Sterling has to go to kindergarten during the day; only Honey will be here."

Seth also didn’t understand, asking, "Auntie Wenny, do you want Honey to stay home and heal?"

Ruby nodded at him with a smile, "Honey is not like regular kids; her wounds take longer to heal. I’m worried she’ll get hurt again at kindergarten, so I want her to start summer vacation early."

Seth thought of Honey’s description yesterday, coupled with Mama Bennett’s instructions, guessed a bit inside, then looked to Ethan, "Dad, can I start summer vacation early and stay home to accompany Honey?"

Ethan understood Wenny’s concerns, and after thinking, felt the home was indeed safer than outside, thinking it seemed the best option before everything was cleared up, "Alright, I’ll help you take leave."

Ruby gratefully looked at Seth, "Thank you."

Remembering her childless state made her feel sad; if her son were still here, would he be as smart and understanding as Seth?

Indeed, she originally had a son...

"You’re welcome." Seth shyly bowed his head, couldn’t help smiling.

Ruby and Ethan left kindergarten, handling the early summer vacation for both children, then got in the car to head to the company together.

Ruby recalled last night when they said nothing, each went to catch up on sleep, and felt uneasy, politely saying, "My daughter and I moved in; it wouldn’t be inconvenient for Mr. Sterling, would it?"

Ethan, looking strictly at work documents on his tablet without moving his eyes, replied casually, "I’d be more inconvenienced if you quit because of it."

Ruby smiled, liking his response very much, turning to view the scenery outside the window, half serious, half jokingly asked, "Did Mr. Sterling come up with how to give me justice, as was previously mentioned?"

Ethan was surprised, then laughed, "Someone once said many things in the world have no justice to speak of, didn’t they?"

Ruby pursed her lips, slightly embarrassed, still avoiding looking at him, deliberately keeping her tone casual, "True, but Mr. Sterling still has to show some sincerity."

"What kind of sincerity do you want?" Ethan raised his head, looking at her.

At this moment, Ruby turned her head, meeting his playful gaze, "The Sullivan Group."
